  • The past few days I was up in Seattle, WA. First day I went on a flight with Kenji in his 4-blade 2015 Cirrus SR22T G5 Accelero up to Friday Harbor for lunch and back to BFI. Next day I flew around clients in the same plane to different locations in northern Oregon and Washington for a company.

    Looks like so much fun! The best way to have a self-guided tour of Seattle and Puget Sound.

    Regarding the military presence in the Puget Sound. There is a Naval Base at Everett. They have active duty warships there, including Aircraft Carriers. Whidbey NAS, as Kenji mentioned, has F/A18s and P-8 Posidens, used to have P-3 Orions up there. The Orions are being phased out, but both are anti submarine Patrol aircraft. On the west side of the Sound, north of Kitsap County is the Nuclear Weapons Loading Facility, where are the SLBMs (Submarine Launched Ballistic Missiles) are stored. In Kitsap County, there is Naval Base Kitsap, which consists of the Subbase at Bangor, just down the road is Keyport Weapons Station, where new technology is developed and tested. Then, the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, at Bremerton. The aircraft carriers that Kenji mentioned are all retired and will be sold for scrap. There are also a number of submarines there that are decommissioned and being disassembled. Because they are nuclear-powered submarines, they have to cut out the reactor spaces and those are specially taken care of so as not to pollute the environment. There are also two nuclear-powered cruisers, the California and the Bainbridge that are there and being, slowly, disassembled. Active duty aircraft carriers are brought in for an overhaul, also.
    At the sound side of the Sound is JMB Lewis-McChord, which was an Army base and an Air Force base right next to each other. They were combined some years ago. They have the Stryker fighting vehicles there, and transport aircraft on the military side.
    While you were at Boeing Field, I certainly hope you got the opportunity to take in the Air Museum there. You would have been able to see where Boeing had their first factory and the tools they used to make those early airplanes with. Pretty amazing stuff, actually.
    Thanks for coming to the Pacific Northwest, and I hope you enjoyed it.

    When I was my kid my dad had a Cessna 180, and later a 205. We were flying in and out of ORS all the time. Some day when I get my PPL I want to return, I liked that airport.

    Nice vid. cockpit audio sounds crisp. What's your method , cam's etc, editing Lay it on us lol - Wait. you need a prop filter

    • @ColinPrenger
      @ColinPrenger  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I have the 2 GoPro's. Then I have a voice recorder that I plug into my headset via a splitter. Then editing I use Premiere Pro CC, I sync the cameras with a hand clap so their timing is right on. Then I sync my lips with the audio track from the recorder. Yeah I could, but choose not to. Just another thing to worry about.

    I really enjoy all the aero videos, and have taken a serious liking to the Cirrus range of aircraft, but PLEASE! do something about those prop effects; it ruins everything! It just doesn't look right. The Cirrus looks real badass with that 4-blader!

    • @ColinPrenger
      @ColinPrenger  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter C Geere but PLEASE watch my most recent videos to see that I’ve fixed that issue before complaining 😉

    • @petercgeere4054
      @petercgeere4054 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not complaining at all. Just asking, as I've seen this on so many other videos too. And this is the first of your videos I've come across. I'll definitely be looking at them. Thank you for the response. And if I can just stop putting things off, I'll post a vid or two of my Lear 31 and my Gulfstream Commander 1000. Good flying to you.

      CAPS and Flaps! 2:45 is when I pull flaps up, didn't verbalize it but always in my head though. Plus, my co-pilot and passenger were being chatty :P

  • @gbigsangle3044

    Why four blade? The stock G5 has a big carbon fiber three blade that works perfectly well.

    • @ColinPrenger
      @ColinPrenger  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GBigs Angle Four blade provides a little better climb rate and is a bit quieter. That’s just what the owner likes

    • @gbigsangle3044
      @gbigsangle3044 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to be argumentative...but the climb in a Cirrus is largely dictated by density altitude and CHTs rather than pitching for a magic number and ignoring the engine. And Bose ANR headsets are a must in any Cirrus. Btw. The SR22T is made to climb...if he really wants to fly in the mountains then that's the model to get.

    • @ColinPrenger
      @ColinPrenger  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GBigs Angle you’re preaching to the choir. Stock 22T climbs great. And I’m a lightspeed pilot 😉

  • @deibertmichael
    @deibertmichael 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What difference is their with a 3 blade verses 4 blade prop?

    • @petercgeere4054
      @petercgeere4054 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      While some self-styled genius would probably tell you that one has three blades, and the other four, I would venture a guess at it having to do with a reduction in vibration. Pete 'Zacch' mentioned something along those lines, and he should know. It was a 4-blader on a Lancair, though, but like I said, I took a guess.
