    What a ridiculous amount of hassle just to get to the Ram. I hate the design of this laptop.

      +Giovanni Masi This guy is an idiot. This is not how you add RAM to any laptop known on the face of the planet. There is a back panel that is even shown in his video (2:59) when he tips everything over. Its one screw and pop the panel out. Even if there was no panel, common sense should tell you that if you have to remove EVERYTHING from the front only to tip it over to get to the back, that you should instead remove the back and not the front.

    Hi sseiyah. Thanks for this video and the other two. This worked for my ASUS F501A. I have just upgraded the wifi card to an Intel AC7260 and it works perfectly. Not only do I now have faster wifi but I also have internal bluetooth now. I downloaded and installed the Intel Pro Set drivers before the upgrade and the new wifi card was recognised as soon as I turned the computer back on after the upgrade. Your videos were a great help.

    Just did this with my Asus X501a Runs much better with 8GB ram in it. But might wanna be carful when taking the motherboard apart. my Laptop left hinge screw holes broke off so I had to order a new bottom base. but other then that everything works great. Great video!

      @ConTheDon187 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up with the screws by the hinges that are longer not being able to screw back in because the 2 plastic pieces with the nuts in them broke off. This computer sure is made with dinky cheap plastic.

    Just in case anyone is considering this upgrade for the X501U sister model of this laptop, despite both machines being very similar the memory is non-upgradable in this model. I have gone through the above procedure and found that the memory chips are soldered therefore there is no DIMM slot on the board anywhere. Bummer!

    Just so you guys know, The laptop had 8gb of ram, not 4gb. 1 4gb stick is located in the back which is way easier to get to but the other one is located deeper within the comuter as he demonstrated. Yes Asus is kinda messed up for seperating the locations of the 2 spots but oh well

    It would appear if you have 2GB, you have a different version of this laptop. Make sure the company has a good return policy and match up the speed to the chip thats currently installed. Laptops dont have video cards, so no way to upgrade them.

    Hi guys,
    I was thinking about upgrading my RAM on my Asus X501A. And I've got some questions...
    1) I'm currently at 4GB and IÄm planing going up to 16GB. Will there be a problem with such a "big" upgrade?
    2) I have run the programm "CPUID CPU-Z". It says that there a 3 free slots. Is it normal ?
    Thanks !

      It depends only on wich cpu installed on it. In my case a Celeron B830 with its IMC (integrated memory controller) that can address 16 GiB of DDR3 1333 MT/s. ark.intel.com/it/products/71141/Intel-Celeron-Processor-B830-2M-Cache-1_80-GHz

    im a little surprised there isnt a spot on the bottom of the laptop where u can uncrew a portion of the back to change the ram. that would be waaaay easier! lol. question: i have a 2 gig stick from another laptop. does this laptop usually come with 1 stick of 4gigs or are there 2 dimm slots and would it be possible for the computer to have two sticks of 2gigs? id like to be able to ^grade using a stick from my other unused laptop. also, would i have to have the same type of ram for it to wrk

    I want to be sure if the upgrade worked fine. I contacted ASUS and they say it can only support up to 4GB. I see towards the end of the video that BIOS is recognizing it. However, when you turned windows on, did it show the upgraded ram in task manager?

    • @shomz
      @shomz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If BIOS recognized it, Windows will surely work as well. Of course, make sure it's a 64-bit version because of memory addressing.

    It's weird that adults will scream like goddamned spoiled children in the comments field of youtube, all over a budget laptop. You can pick these up at "deals" sites now for $200-250. The motherboard has good parts, namely it's sata-iii, so very fast with an SSD. It also has USB 3. Upgrade with an SSD and RAM and you have a great, fast computer that you can use for things like a media server, or a powerful office computer. I run Ubuntu (and Windows) on mine it use it for everything from media server to home automation to security to backup.
    It's definitely true that the trackpad on this thing is horrible. I use an external mouse or I remote in from another computer. One more tip if you must use the trackpad: use tapping and double-tapping instead of fumbling with the trackpad buttons. It's much more accurate that way.
    Also, upgrading is hard. This was designed to be a cheap budget laptop and part of keeping it cheap was just to throw the guts into single pieces of plastic instead of spending extra on design and additional parts.

    • @rgpfighter
      @rgpfighter 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you type the model of your laptop online you can find links on google that will lead to things that will work and if you aren't sure still look at your laptop model on forums where people post questions/answers and your laptop model will be there with all the helpful tips people wanted to know about it. This includes RAM and other common problems that people know about the laptop. :) Hope that helps! But the problem I'm facing is that I have RAM that I installed and it isn't recognized by my laptop so it's physically installed, but it shows no signs of it software wise.

    • @bradengbare
      @bradengbare 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah okay. I've already looked up my laptop online, though. It's the same one in this video, so it would use the same RAM cards. I was just wondering if he could post where he got them.

      I've upgraded the CPU on the X501A from a Pentium 2020M to a Core i5 3230m, and it works

      Ian Cavalcanti did you watch a video or view a thread on how to do it? I heard the cpu on this PC might be soldered, was yours soldered to the motherboard? Anything helps, I really want to avoid buying another computer.

      It's not soldered but you should notice that if you have a HM70 chipset, Intel locked it down so if you upgrade your Pentium Ivy CPU to a I5/I7 Ivy the computer will work but reboot every 30 min

    All the idiots at Asus needed to do was put a memory door on the back side of the computer. Also as I'm typing this on the x501 I've hit the ALT button instead of space so many times because they lengthened the CTRL button and shortened the space bar. Makes a lot of sense huh? Returning this garbage immediately.

      +Jake Sully If this guy has actually done it, and not just looked it, disregard. But I recall convos about this on notebook forums, and I'm pretty sure that while it appears you could put in a higher processor, the motherboard will not accept it. I could be wrong. I got rid of this thing several months ago.

    DO NOT GET THIS Laptop. The touchpad button combo is truly awful and WAY too far left. Just look at the pics and you will see yourself. Keyboard is horrible because of the short space bar. You will constantly see words stuck together. Upgrading the RAM? Well you can see yourself how dumb this is. I got a dell latitude 3330 a little smaller (13.3) not as good looking but WAY better keyboard, mouse and buttons. AND they have 2 mem slots! Mem AND HDD is behind 1 Door/screw. On sale $300.
