This is the best figure out the vintage line. I still have my original SS from childhood and 100% complete (with my childhood accessories). I remember when I got it at the store the owners allowed my to dive into the box of all the figures he got from the regional dealership. He told me I was lucky to find storm shadow as they only usually got about 2 figures per box. I never forgot that day and that was over 30 years ago.

My grandmother took all 4 of her grandkids to this like bike shop that also sold toys. I think I was no older than 5. I wanted a TMNT and just went with this gi joe cuz he was also a ninja. It is by far my most cherished toy as a kid. He is in so many pictures throughout my youth. He's in my communion picture hanging out of my front shirt pocket hahahah. They don't make toys like they use to. He came with so much shit. I lost all of it but still. I'm so happy you have a memory like that too.

Zartan (1984) killed the Hard Master, thinking he was killing Snake Eyes; Firefly (1984) was hired first, to kill Snake Eyes, and after apprenticing with the weapons master, could not follow through as Firefly had become the Faceless Master. After Zartan killed the Hard Master, with an arrow shot by Storm Shadow (1984), Storm Shadow fled and saw Zartan fleeing in a Cobra Helicopter; after that, he abandoned his family and joined Cobra. The Soft Master clarified a few things for Snake Eyes, then was killed by Scrap Iron (1984). Wow...I thought Kevin Bacon could be connected to a lot of people. I read somewhere (the ubiquitous somewhere everyone reads stuff) the reason Larry Hama chose white for Storm Shadow was to be a direct foil for Snake Eyes, who dressed in black! Great job, man!
The U at the end is voiced. Only time Japanese drop the U in words is when it's SU. Like in masu (mas) and desu (des). Sometimes also with TSU. But only those have a dropped U.
thats the main problem with the white figures they always yellow. Snow JOb would yellow really bad to. I try and avoid figures that are white lol. nothing wrong with storm shadow but the yellowing bugs me. If u like this mold u can always get the Ninja Viper but those go for a ton of money now on ebay lol.
I also loved the backpack and being able to store weapons on the backpack, I would always buy any joe with this ability, over any other joe. I just got this guy on ebay complete with unbroken bow and white as can be, for 30$. guy didnt know what he had. really tight joints too. i could never find a better loose figure in this ccondition
The character Slice (in the first wave of the Ninja Force) was released 8 years after *this* version of Storm Shadow, which was a Cobra, and 4 years after the version of Storm Shadow wearing the white all-in-one ninja outfit with dark grey camo, and defects to G.I. Joe (interestingly, all three of these figures were released in leap years - the first Storm Shadow in 1984, the second Storm Shadow in 1988, and Slice in 1992).
what we have here is possibly THE DEFINING FIGURE of the entire joe run... am i rite? although i can guess which figure you are partial to, hooded cobra commander...
I can tell you that I had a pleasant chill when my eyes saw him on the pegs at Woolworth in 1984 . I cannot remember who else was there but I seem to remember him being the only gijoe figure on the pegs. Could be that once I saw him , I had tunnel vision lol definitely the one who's paint and joints wore out rather quickly I mean we all did kicks etc with this guy. I could go on and on about how very few figures, if any really, could top him in a fight. On a side note I recently purchased a nice scrap iron to round out cobras that were available as single carded figures from 1984 however my current storm shadow has seen better days. YOJOE!!!!
Honestly, for the way him and v2 snake eyes are sculpted, equiped and made available for purchase in at least 1985 ,there's no better version of either in any era vintage or modern.
what is the best way to avoid them from yellowing? i know tobacco smoke yellows but what about other type of smoke? does sunlight have to be direct? you have any videos on storing joes?
I don't have any videos on storing Joes. The plastic yellows because of a fire-retardant chemical placed in the plastic. Since it is and organic compound, it will inevitably break down over time. Sunlight will make it worse, but eventually ALL white figures will be yellow, and all light blue figures will be green. There is no way to permanently stop it. You can slow it down by protecting the figure from UV light and heat, but that's all you can do. Appreciate the few white figures while you can, because someday they will all be pee yellow.

As much as I loved the Joe cartoon I never understood the rivalry of Storm Shadow and Spirit. As far as I can remember they completely ignored any competition between Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes. SS did fight and deal with Quick Kick but never SE's. That was one of the wastes of the show.
The way you have put the bow and nunchuck are probably not the way the designers intended. Sure it holds good for outside playing, but there is another way. You have put the bow so that the string is to the left. It makes it cumbersome to remove the bow, and the two lower pegs are not needed to hold the bow. If you rotate the bow 180 degrees so that the string is to the right, you can then straighten out the nunchuck and put one of its handles between the two lower pegs. The other handle of the nunchuck will now be towering over the end of the arrows. Sure in reality gravity would give Stormy a chain tail, but its a practical toy compromise like the way the swords are not stored in proper scabbards. The toy can't hold the nunchuck in the belt as in the comic.
Hey there, great review! Just wanted to clear up the whole ninja sword issue. Well turns out in real history that no such thing existed and the ninja used katana they would slightly modify it but that's all they were. Kee the reviews soming I am going back 35 years ago
one of the best joes, in my top five. i like V2 the very best but this one is just classic. i got him a lil later in life, but i always wanted him as a kid. Oddly...also later in life..i got these weird recolors of storm shadow from brazil and i think india? i dunno. might be fun to review those variants too! they didnt come with many accessories, but i am sure u can make an entertaining review of them.
I like *this* version of Storm Shadow (from 1984, and is a Cobra) *and* the 1988 version (it took me some time to know why the 1988 version defects to G.I. Joe - it was owing to how the original 80s Sunbow cartoon was cancelled after the movie, hence the toyline now had to follow the *comics*.

It looks like a prototype AND a kitbash. Maybe this is for a figure that was not released.
I have the rare 1992 Cobra Ninja from China 2 of them in the packages :) So he was not discontinued ;)
