Miku aka Small Pigeon (rhythm guitar, red flower) came up with the idea of the band, rock band in maid outfits, she enrolled Kanami aka Kanamincho/ Mincho/ Sensei (lead guitar/ composer/ genius) who suggested Akane aka Gorilla (drums) who suggested Misa aka Barefoot Assassin (bass). Miku herself realised that her vocals were not powerful enough and asked her management for a suggestion for an additional vocalist, they offered Saiki aka Ice Queen but not to tell her about the maid outfits 'cos Saiki would not like it. Saiki was auditioned and recruited and only found out about the maid thing at first rehearsal. As you can see the two members that were not 100% with Maids have evolved their outfits. Miku was then persuaded that she would have to learn to play the guitar, in their first MV Thrill her guitar was no more than a prop. Hard work learning on the job, taught by Kanami, Miku has become a solid rhythm guitarist whilst providing stella dual vocals/backing vocals/harmonies and sometimes lead vocals.

The band is still together. They are going to be doing a US tour in October… which is sold out. Maybe a few lucky people can get tickets .. depending on the city. Band maid started out as a four member group with Miku ( rhythm guitar / vocals ) as the lead vocalist. But they added Saiki later on to be the vocalist to have a more rock sound. They recorded their first album as a five piece band and they have been together the whole time. They are the best hard rock band in the circuit today .. hands down. 🤘🏻

I think you'd also like their official produced MV of Manners. Anyway, Welcome aboard, Sara. You are embarking on (along with many others - 145 million YT views plus over 30 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (118 songs with their latest album, “Unseen World” and new single drops), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: th-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/w-d-xo.html Their later songs from albums Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Sense, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis!
And many songs are represented with over 40 well produced music videos. th-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:
     ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” th-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/w-d-xo.html
 Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th “Domination” th-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/w-d-xo.html
     ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” th-cam.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/w-d-xo.html
 Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 (The last two are on bandmaidprime.tokyo and DVD/BD/CD)
And some of the better quality 2019 tour Fan vids are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues:
 Taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: th-cam.com/video/__1th7ctgMo/w-d-xo.html
     And by JOSER8845 in LA: th-cam.com/video/usWZvlGGDSs/w-d-xo.html.
If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.
For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009
    Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 28 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 30 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 30 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 31 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 29 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.
    [BAND-MAID NEWS]
 BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Those concerts are two of the best produced & performed concerts ever recorded, IMO. bandmaidprime.tokyo
 Got your tickets yet? BAND-MAID's 8 state, 11 gig USA tour is SOLD OUT! HOWEVER, they just added two more venues in New Jersey Oct. 30 (4,000 seats), and Chicago, Nov. 1. And the "AFTERSHOCK FESTIVAL 2022" in Sacramento, California on Sunday, October 9 may still have tickets. Check Ticketmaster and Band-Maid’s website quickly!

As others will tell you, they added Saiki (lead vocalist) one month after the band started -- so one performance with four members, and then the current five ever since. Miku (band founder and JPop singer) was the original vocalist, and had no instrumental experience. After sacking herself as the lead vocalist, she started learning the guitar (taught by Kanami, lead guitarist) and is now a very competent rhythm guitarist, freeing up Kanami to show the virtuosity that she has as lead guitarist (and as composer of most of their songs and instrumentals).
Band-Maid is Miku's dream: she worked hard to make it happen. She chose Kanami in a stroke of genius, not only because Kanami is an outstanding guitarist and composer, but Kanami also knew a drummer (Akane), who knew a bassist (Misa). By choosing Kanami, Miku got her entire band almost, together with their future composer. The missing piece was Saiki, who they soon recruited to fill out the band with a stronger rock voice (Miku being more JPop in style).
And so Miku's dream band became our dream band.

Band formed July 2013 with 4 members, Miku, Kanami, Misa, Akane. Did one performance that July and decided they needed a more powerful vocalist. Saiki was selected by audition and the now 5 member band did their first performance late August 2013. Same group together ever since.

    • @surfingasongwave
      @surfingasongwave 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Nobody has to agree or anything, but one performance (the very FIRST gig) is not enough for me to ever think they were a four-piece band. Considering how much turnover there is with most bands, it seems to be a characteristic of this band; they have been the same five sisters from the beginning, they've ridden in the same van to gigs, they've shared the same highs and lows, they've developed their sound together. They have a cohesiveness that's hard to find, and it seems to be a defining trait.

    • @geoffb5
      @geoffb5 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@surfingasongwave I do agree with you in this. What I find as another defining trait is in that move from 4 to 5 which is why I wrote about it.
Miku was willing to give up her role as lead vocalist for the good of the band as a whole, plus do the work to become a rhythm guitarist. That willingness to work to make the band the best it can be is part of why they are still together and not changing members over and over like most bands do. IMHO-YMMV

Oh, a familiar face. :) Hello Sara, nice to see you again. 🙋🏻‍♂️
It's kind of funny that 5 little innocent looking ladies in for us maybe a little strange looking dresses, show a lot of 'big boys' out there how to really rock it, isn't it? And it doesn't matter for them if they do it in a slower, somewhat bluesy or hectic a.f. way. The talent and harmony of all of them allows them to do whatever they feel like.
With 'Warning', 'Manners' and 'Black Hole' you have now heard 3 of their current songs. If I may recommend you something, then next check out the MV to their song 'Thrill' from 2014, which brought them the attention they needed and saved them from not being able to continue, and after that maybe their live performance to 'Freedom', which should be quite interesting especially for someone who has a focus on Akane on the drums. 😉 But actually it doesn't matter what you pick from these ladies. It will rock, and I'd be happy to see you again for another video on Band-Maid. :) 🤘🏻

Why complain about a language barrier when you could've used closed captioning? It's a shame too because I feel the lyrics for black hole do a really good job at encompassing the feeling of a black hole that the song has throughout.
