    Can you please do a video demystifying heat protectant? I used to think it was a gimmick or did nothing more than what hair products did. But once they started putting degree ratings on the bottles it made them seem more legitimate. I just don’t understand what’s in them that protects the hair and what makes them different than hair styling products. Thanks for all your hard work!

    I love coconut oil. And I’ve been told it doesn’t penetrate the hair and it gives the “illusion” of being healthy. But when I was deployed in the desert coconut oil took my very dry hair and made its super soft and shiny. I also met a lady with beautiful butt length hair who was a huge fan of using straight coconut oil for her hair.

    Hi Abbey as someone with thick/curly hair coconut oil works ok, but I prefer to use an actual hair mask tbh. The coconut oil needs a clarifying shampoo to remove, whereas a pre shampoo mask or after shampoo deep conditioner rinse out much more easily. I can use a tiny amount on my ends left in to tame flyaways or frizz, but again prefer an oil blend formulated for this purpose. it takes a lot of oil to make my dry/unruly hair look greasy though. Many of the products I use contain coconut, but I really prefer shea butter as an alternative. Best wishes.

    It's important to mention that coconut oil molecules at food grade cannot penetrate the hair shaft, so when you use it right out of the jar, it just sits on top the hair. When it's formulated into hair products, usually it gets hydrogenated, meaning that the way it's formulated allows for the molecule to be broken and is small enough to go into the hair

    • @heredianna2496
      @heredianna2496 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Hi actually that is not true. The chemical stucture of coconut oil as it is can penetrate hair if you leave it on your hair long enough. There are plenty of study on it and it was done with pure coconut oil. The inci terminology used on hair products is coconut oil so nothing has been done to it otherwise it could not be called coconut oil. The quantity of coconut oil used in hair products is rarely enough to do anything to hair.
      It is more for marketing purposes.

    • @isabellabourque4802
      @isabellabourque4802 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@heredianna2496 what studies have shown this? For years it's been known that the molecules are too large to penetrate the hair. Please tell me where you got that info so I can look into it.

    I just started using the Moroccan Oil products again. I haven't used them for years now, and being in my 50's and going through menopause I was starting to see a lot of breakage and getting extremely dry dray hair. It's been about 2 months now and omg what a difference. My hair is much softer, shiny, and it looks a lot healthier. I put it in my hair at night and then I use Collen Rothschild hair mask in the shower but I only use that on my ends. After I shampoo with the Moroccan Hydrating shampoo I put the Moroccan oil mixed in with their hydrating conditioner and the Collen Rothschild hair mask and let me tell you it has been amazing!! thank you for sharing this video I will give the Pureology a try once I am done with my Moroccan oil products. Yes, I use the their detangling spray and their split end cream on my wet hair. I enjoy watching your videos even though you are much younger then I am. It makes my hair so dry and it looks and feels like I have protein overload (from other vidoes on this I think it's either because it prevents protein loss, so I do indeed have protein overload, or if is because it prevents water from getting in to the hair strand to moisturise it). She does still say you can use it if you want but why use something cheap when you can buy a product with added chemicals in it for a higher price, lol (I'm just being sarcastic here). Lightly use the coconut oil. Don't saturate the hair with it which is a mistake others make. I'm a Licensed cosmetologist for 30 years.

      Jojoba, argan or marula Oil. I prefer marula. You will only need a teeny wee. However: Ive read that some people really enjoy the ordinary’s: hemi-squalane, for a more affordable non greasy option. That one seems to go on completely ‘dry’.
      As for a DIY conditioning agent/hair mask I prefer coconut milk over coconut Oil. Where Coconut Oil can be too greasy and the residuals can be hard to lather out for some hairtypes, coconut milk can work wonders. ;)

    I don't have a science-based comment but more of an observation. I have long, thin, fine hair (and tons of it). I don't color it, blow it out, or heat-style it, but it gets messed from the harshness of shampoos that fight seborrheic dermatitis (which clarify or strip the living heck out of my hair). Your pre-shower mask idea makes sense, but my hair would still either be stripped due to the shampoos or turn sections of hair into knots. I used to deep condition with it occasionally, but I found that it mostly stretched out my hair a lot when trying to comb/detangle, which is not good for thin hair (it did not provide me with any improvement in terms of manageability). I rotate among a few more water-based deep conditioners, believe in trims, and apply serums like the Body Shop's grapeseed serum (rinses out clean, no silicone) for shine and manageability. Coconut oil didn't work for me, and I'd never put it on my scalp because it worsens the problem.

      In my experience (platinum bleached from dark) I overlap ALL the time but use a bonder in my bleach as well as in my toners. I also use a pre bleaching protein filler Before bleaching and also seal the cuticle after toning but before that I use a keratin/collagen mask. Not one strand ever lost this way. I have long healthy bleached platinum hair BUT to keep it healthy , shiny, and in optimum condition you will need to spend a bit of money on masks ( I like Joico) and leave in spray conditioners, SPF protection sprays, and lots of slick treatments to maintain it. Being blond (the right way) can get expensive.
      Ps. My hair (naturally dark) is very naturally silky and thin stranded though I have slot so it bleached well and FAST. Ps. Only once when by mistake used a low level bleach ( a 6 I think) it got yellow orange. I instantly fixed it with a bleach bath but used high end conditioner instead of shampoo and in 15 min it was almost white and zero damage.
      I feel so bad for those with thicker strands as bleach is hell on some hair textures/types. My bff cannot be platinum (for example) due to her thick stranded curly texture. I mean maybe she could but rocking a pixie is not "her"

    I used straight coconut oil and had to wash it over and over to get it to feel clean/ not weighed down. I do have fine thin hair and might try a clarifying shampoo to see if that improves results.

      When I do a coconut oil mask before I hop in the shower I add a deep conditioner on top of the coconut oil, and leave that on for another 20 mins or so. Then thoroughly rinse in the shower and shampoo once with clarifying shampoo and once with my normal shampoo and condition as normal, and it comes out perfectly that way!

    It has been said to not use shampoo to the mid and ends of the hair because it dries it out but in this case when using coconut oil would you only shampoo your scalp and just let the suds run down through to the end or would you actually shampoo all of the hair to the ends?

    So I know this is an older video, but I have a question regarding this not being great for lower porosity hair. A lot of the people who swear by this are Indian, Pakistani, or Oriental, which naturally have thicker, lower porosity hair.... so how is it so great for their hair type, but not good for others with low porosity hair? It's kind of contradictory. Just wondering why some people's hair benefits from it, but others say theirs doesn't, when supposedly they have the same type of hair.

    Oh my god🤦🏾. Tou have to warm the pol up til it melts, and also warm oil is better. Then rather than coating your hair itself your supposed to put it on your fingertips and massage it into your scalp so the hair folkicles and buds become healthier, making the hair that comes out better. Remember that hair is essentially dead cells once it leaves the scalp so putting oil on it wpnt do anything.

    • @dariagabrielapantiru1504
      @dariagabrielapantiru1504 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not everyone experienced that. I don't get why we have to make fun of each other with things that are this personal and there are no facts about. It's like saying "lol red is totally better than blue right?". I don't know, I find it's kind of mean and invalidating of people and their experiences for no good reason whatsoever. Yeah, if you're wondering I do use coconut oil so call me biased or offended if you want, but all I mean to say is that I have had acne for years and it's never caused me*(obviously not gonna be the case for everyone) breakouts or worsened it. I mostly use it to cleanse, but i even slept in it a couple times and my acne did look less bad after I woke up. Am I recommending you sleep in coconut oil? No, absolutely not, tread with caution and listen to how your skin reacts, but that it does not work for some people doesn't make it evil or warrant making fun of those who do or don't use it. In my case I've actually witnessed it start working less well and start causing a pimple or two when left on the skin only this year, as my skin finally became less dry after years of skincare. I think the reason it used to help was that my skin was so dry I was basically losing water constantly as I slept even through my moisturiser and the coconut oil may have helped provide an even more occlusive barrier to stop that from happening which probably drove down inflammation in the skin and therefore minimized the appearance of the breakouts and made them go away quicker by putting a sooner stop to the cycle of inflammation that caused them. I had really dry skin back then to the point it would feel like sandpaper to the touch back then and produced pretty much no oils of its own, and I would venture a guess that other people who swear by its benefits for acne might've had a similar experience(and yes, I have heard of, and talked, to people who did) I am not saying anyone ditch their routine with actually formulated products for it, heck, the only reason I wound up using it overnight was because I tend to be prone to bouts of depression that get me to stop doing anything past my first cleanse every now and then, and I'm a cheap skate. But anyways, I just mean I don't see why we have to be making fun of each other.

    Maybe you used too much coconut oil in your hair, a little goes a long way. I now use 1/4 tsp (measured) and work it in my hair slowly from mid to end. My hair is about a few inches shorter than yours and fine as well but medium thickness with layers. Anything more than 1/4 tsp. even with clarifying shampoo my hair won't last as long looking clean. Once a month overnight mask works anything more, I lose volume. Organic coconut oil, it's the best IMO.

      Paraben is the safest and best & most researched preservative and you can actually find it in some fruits. Please don’t be scared of paraben. Phenoxyethanol has more or one that actually is irritating to so many people while paraben is 100% safe.

I haven't tried a hair mask before but as this one that you recommended I'd be willing to give it a go as I would feel this would be easier to tell when its all rinsed out of my hair. Try either Pureology “Strength cure” range or the Reken “Acidic bonding concentrate shampoo and conditioner” you can get both of these products on Amazon too for a better price as normally the Redken ones will be in a bundle and the Pureology although it doesn’t smell the best it is amazing for repairing the hair. If all else fails try Olaplex shampoo and conditioner but bear in mind the bottles aren’t massive but have a big impact on the hair.
