  • The Dark Side of Education and Qualifications. GCSE's 'A' levels and Degrees.
5.30am Mountain Run and a Rant!
The introduction of the Nurse measure!
Most people are not aware that for your GCSE's, eg Mathematics, you do not have to reach a standard to pass. Students are competing against each other to pass.
Here is an episode on this I did on Richard Vobes channel.

Great job on your jog! Wow, I would not have been able to make it and talk at the same time. Look at that view! Wow, so pretty! LOL Heather was my mum in law. Is England trying to destroy the middle class? that's what is happening here in the U.S. If this will happen, there will be two groups, the elites, and the poor. =(
Knowing what I know about how people learn differently and not everyone tests well, doesn't mean they're not qualified for certain jobs. I'm in agreement with you. The powers that be who have changed these rules are doing England a disservice by cutting out all of these people who are probably quite amazing or would be given the opportunity. Now where are they supposed to go with these black marks on their records before they even start life? I'm all for cutting gov spending, but changing the rules for applying to jobs is ridiculous. I'm definitely for standards, but again, all of the above. Sometimes a work history experience is more useful to a company than a person who scored well on an exit exam. If, God forbid, there's another world war, England will have to change their mandates. Sometimes nurses are more observant than doctors here in the U.S. I don't trust the medical industry though. =/ The same thing is happening here in the U.S. Stealing more money from the poor and middle class and printing more money, which will soon become worthless. shaking me head. sigh. I won't even get started on the "elections."

Yes, what a system. Our young people split into two groups, those that have to pay at least £40,000 to take a degree qualification for the higher paid jobs and those that are left unable to apply for them. The qualification at age 16 GCSE is 'interesting.' The maths exam is out of 240 marks. This means that there will be a mark, say 121/240 that means you have passed and can apply to be a nurse and the mark below 120/240 which means you can't. What people are unaware of is that the papers are marked by humans and so have human error in the marking. The government estimates that 17.8% of papers are given the incorrect grade either too high or too low. That is not a 1 mark error but a complete grade. Imagine 900,000 English essays being marked by about 1000 different markers. The 'error' rate must be considerably above 17.8%. As for politics, what is the ancient Chinese proverb, 'It is a curse to live in interesting times!' Best wishes and happy reading to you , you Zealots!

@@ReadingIDEAS.-uz9xk I'm not familiar with that Chinese proverb. But we are born for such a time as this. I'm curious now how many people who grade the tests might be paid off? I had no idea this split system was a problem. The U.S. has so many of its own issues I've been trying to keep up with. We must help our younger generations though to keep the future bright, not becoming a bureaucratic nightmare.

@@ReadingIDEAS.-uz9xk OH, I forgot to ask about your breakfast after your run. What did you eat, if you don't mind me asking?

@@BookZealots Hi. I have cut out a lot of carbs, potatoes, bread, rice and sugar. I have nuts instead of crisps and 100% dark chocolate. I usually have two meals a day, breakfast and dinner (tea in northern England!) and not much at lunch (dinner in northern England!). For breakfast today I had two bacon, two eggs, mushrooms and asparagus spears cooked in a little butter with salt and pepper. And you guys?

@@ReadingIDEAS.-uz9xk Ah, tea! We drink tea and we brew loose leaf in a kettle. We buy it by the pound. =) We usually skip breakfast, but will have one to two meals daily. I had cream of wheat this morning. A treat, because I rarely eat it. When I eat breakfast it's never the same thing and not always breakfast food. Your breakfast sounds delicious. For dinner/lunch I had beef jerky, chicken, rice and broccoli. I've been craving broccoli and carrots. My son had the same lunch, but I don't know what he ate for dinner/supper. I try to stop eating by 2pm. I don't like going to bed with a full stomach. It's been hot and humid here so I've increased my water intake to avoid heat headaches. Thank you for sharing your breakfast. The asparagus too. Nice. I think I'll add it to my grocery list.

I’m honestly glad you talked about this. It’s something that I feel needs to be discussed more.
Another very unfortunate thing on top of everything you mentioned is here in the USA, sometimes even after university, interviewers tell you you’re “overqualified” for the careers you went to school for.
My dad went to University for years. He has a BA in history, an MA in history, a PhD in sociology, and an MA in linguistics. When he decided to be done with school and look for a job, everywhere he applied told him he was overqualified. After 3 years of job searching he ended up working at a post office.

Awesome - I made a handful of trail running videos a few years back, but I jog out in very rocky desert terrain and they are so bouncy that they are impossible to watch - I tried book reviews while jogging, but my brain could not focus, so I switched to lockdown rants. Those just got me worked up and angry so I was able to run faster HAHAHA I deleted them all a long time ago, they were terrible HAHA Beautiful country up there - and nice job with the 1000 foot elevation gain!!

Just popped over to your channel to subscribe. Best wishes. The main fact with the education system is that 43% of students 'fail' their GCSE's each year. In other words, 43% do not get a level 4 or above in Eng Maths plus any 3 others. This failure rate is FIXED. If the failure rate is fixed at 43% each year increasing the spending each year will have 0% effect on increasing the pass rate.

@@ReadingIDEAS.-uz9xk It does seem like an absurdity. Gradeflation would appear the only sane piece of reasoning but nonetheless... Good run!
