This episode really spoke volumes to me. This scene made me realize the depth the oc has. Truly one of the best, if not the best episode. Long live the oc.
One of the best episodes ever in a series. Marissa always divided opinions amongst fans but one thing everyone would agree on is that her death was really painful. I felt for Ryan a lot
I think this is the same song from the Season 1 episode when they go to Tijuana and Ryan finds Marissa lying in the alley. The O.C. always did a good job of recalling previous episodes/songs.
I believe the letter which appeared to have gone missing was actually the last gift from Marissa from heaven, to let Ryan go.. That's why it suddenly popped up out of nowhere on the Christmas day - miracle happens on this day. RIP Marissa
@BOS37631yan and Marissa had a connection that was just unique. Soulmates. Both Seth and Summer were their best friends a different type of love between Ryan and Marissa. They loved each other deeply and had an instant connection when they first met.
people who are saying that his goodbye was too simple and there had been more and it had to be more special and what not can't you see it is so special? ryan doesn't have any other words than goodbye he just lost the love of his life she litteraly died in his arms you think he's in the mood to have to say even one sentence? and except his goodbye itself he said goodbye at marissa's spot that is part of his goodbye also it was her spot, the spot she came to whenever she was upset remember? and plus also her goodbye letter to ryan where she tells him she loves him he reads it at her spot and leaves it there it's about the little things who were big things in ryan and marissa's lives in this scene
Zora Blabla You are spot on. Couldn't agree more. I have always been absolutely obsessed with this couple for the sheer fact of their wordless, soulmate connection. There are no words needed. Goodbye was all it took. He will always love her. She will always love him. Always connected.
I agree with you, but I might add one and only more thing: Marissa´s voice reading the letter. I know Julie told the Cohen´s what was all about, but Marissa´s voice, reading a letter bigger than Julie´s resume it would let scene absolutelly perfect.
I have to disagree. Marissa was not the love of Ryan's life. She was his first love. And she was also the girl who kept dragging him down and making him miserable. He might have been her soulmate but she wasn't his. Season 3 clearly showed they were not meant to be. As for him and Taylor,I loved them. They were fun and light and brought up the best in each other. She was exactly what he needed. He smiled more in the 10 episodes with Taylor than in 3 seasons with Marissa.
I agree, I don’t think a big thing of saying goodbye is Ryan, that’s not him. A simple goodbye is enough. Going to her spot to reconnect, to read the letter and to say bye is all it needed. I think this was perfect for me.
I just realised something when julie is talking about marissa's letter to ryan and she says "she loved him but she had to say goodbye" at 0:25 she is referring to ryan here because he's the one who loved her but had to say goodbye in order to wake up OMG HOW DID I NOT REALIZE THIS A MILLION YEARS AGO
Punchbag 100 keep walking means that the Roles have to Be reversed now In the letter marissa Said goodbye ( in real life before she died obviously) In his fictional world during his coma Ryan has to say goodbye to marissa so he can wake up out of the coma
What I still dont understand is that when Ryan was in that parallel universe he went to beach and sat down on that beach house and read the goodbye letter... moments later he woke up and Julie put that letter next to him. So there were two letters?
The letter to Ryan which suddenly appeared to have gone missing. Believed this letter made up by Marissa's mum, so that she can make use of Ryan to take revenge for her daughter death.
Francisco Garcia Jr Hahahaha. Nope. Not a chance. Ryan loved Marissa so much. Star crossed lovers they were but she will always be the love of his life.
@@horsehorsebagorse5321 she was his first love.. But not his last. They were broken up when she died and you just have to re-watch the series to see that Ryan is way more happier with Taylor than Marissa.. They were toxic together..
@@elisabetcorominolamora2654The fact he would live his entire reality to be with her speaks volume. Yeah they were toxic but they were also young and went through traumatic experiences. That’s why they wanted to distance themselves and grow individually. The door was always open for them. It’s easier to be “healthy” when things are written in a comedic theme instead of a darker one. The writers failed to write anything meaningful regarding their relationship after season 2. The O.C. just wasn’t what it was in Season 3 and after her death.
@AstroSully right! The writers also said that Marissa was the love of his life.Part of the reason for the decision of killing off Marissa and not just have her sail off on the boat was because they knew that Ryan wouldn’t fully be able to move on if she was still out there. Josh Schwartz had said that Taylor was never Ryan’s endgame and I doubt they would’ve ever happened if they kept Mischa on the show.

For all it's cheesyness, The O.C. had a lot of heart and emotion.

Most favourite music moment from the OC! Absolute Gold.
One of the very best scenes. That song has this weird power of making us reverberate our thoughts. Really deep.
I think this is the same song from the Season 1 episode when they go to Tijuana and Ryan finds Marissa lying in the alley. The O.C. always did a good job of recalling previous episodes/songs.
Ryan going back to the Life Guard house remembering the times he would sit there with Marissa is truly heartbreaking 💔
The music this show had is unmatched
I believe this is the same song that was featured in the Tijuana episode when Ryan finds Marissa lying in that alley and picks her up.
@@matthewquering8713yep! This is the same…

One of my favourite scenes, and the song Into Dust by Ashtar Command just made it worth rewatching over and over.
same song as episode 1 when Ryan carrys drunk Marissa to outhouse
Into Dust by Ashtar Command. Ep 1 used the original version of the song by Mazzy Star
And when he carrys in the Hole in Tijuana
And this episode The O.C, ended to me. The best show ever
When he said goodbye to Marissa letter OMG I wanted to cry 😢
A very emotional yet Powerful scene.
After this episode season 4 really spiraled down.
will ryan read the letter in real life as well?
@@toobad9295 the letter went to Julie

So Adam Brody wasn't too thrilled with the story lines in Season 4?
Can anybody tell me what song is this? Cant get the flute out of my head
Ashtar Command - Into Dust
Marissa 😭😭😭
Music????
what episode is this? and what season is it from?
The oc should have ended like this when ryans says goodbye to marissa and seth and summer get married not the taylor part :(

That letter that Ryan read what did it say ?

Taylor and Ryan has a girl
That's Sandy and Kirsten's daughter Sophie not Ryan and Taylor's.
