We used to LOVE to sit on the pylons just underneath the track in the middle of the bridge, drink a few beers and watch the river roll by. This bridge is very dear to my heart. What a WONDERFUL video of it being crossed by such a BEAUTIFUL engine! Thanks for posting!
That bridge is nearly 120 years old and still in use. I was delivering a load of stone to the railroad tracks east of town that day when the train went by. Impressive.
Sounds like thats entirely to much fun with SP745 :) , kinda like a rolling whistle show! I would have gave anything to be there that day or better yet to be in the cab with them. Thanks for posting!
When I first saw this as a kid, I literally thought they were just showing off by blowing both whistles like that. But watching it now years later, I understood why they did that. They would never blow the whistle, let alone BOTH whistles simultaneously like that unless something or someone is either too close or in the way. Apparently it was a news camera. I love hearing the sound of a good whistle, especially hearing both at the same time, but at the end of the day, they are still warning devices intended to keep your head on a swivel and keep you safe.
@PetersTrainz101 There are two cords on the 745 that the Engineer can pull. Since the engineer has the Throttle in a hold pistition he is able to blow both whistle at the same time.
@speediracer4 Really we put that whistle in to have a higher tone on the Locomotive. We have a SP whistle on there as well. Don't matter if it is made from china. Each engineer has an choice of whistle.
Those Whistles give me Chills every time I love it

The repeated whistling as the engine was crossing the bridge was because a TV cameraman had his camera set up between the rails.
So awesome, I wish I had known about this, I would have been there, camera ready. It is beautiful! Great video! thanks for sharing!
You would never hear a whistle show like this from either of the Union Pacific steam stars (844 or 4014)
Love this.. Wish I could have experienced seeing this.
I wish I could have seen this bridge when they used it but now they have a huge bridge that doesnt need have to be turned

Unfortunately, I have yet to see it in operation, but I will soon!
The restoration begins in a few months.
