    If you slow down TH-cam to 0.25x speed and go to 1:26, where the film ends, you can read the last part of the strip (the tail leader), which has a handwritten looking font:
    "Sand of Earth", but the "Sand" is crossed out, so it now reads "Moon of Earth".

      @justan idiot I mean I think the difference is prior to spacetravel the very concept was basically intangible for anyone but physicists. The moon was just more land.
      Sure we have optimistic predictions now, but considering people have been living in space continuously for several decades now and the more conservative estimates of the next 10 years are just to expand the number of people up there at any time, and maybe have a few on the moon and Mars as well, things aren't that outlandish.
      The only claim that may seem absurd is the spacex million people on Mars by (what i believe is currently set to 2040) its a goal that likely won't be reached in that time frame, but at least has a chance.
      Many claims made in the 50s were just speculative. Nobody had been to space yet, rockets saw basically no use outside of weaponry (a role that they fulfilled since the invention of gunpowder). The idea of a moon colony was a fun fantasy that scientists speculated could certainly happen, but they had no real understanding as to how.

We also had a kids book from the late 50 or early 60s about taking a vacation to the Moon colonies. Both were exactly like the Simpsons film... America sure was optimistic back in the day.

      SeaOfTides - it's poorly managed and poorly funded (teachers are criminally underpaid for the important work that they do), but there's no reason it COULDN'T be vastly improved with adequate funding and policy changes. When I think of all the funding that goes to college athletic stadiums, professional sports etc. - if 1% of that were somehow diverted to public schools, they'd improve drastically.

    • @ElliotKeaton
      @ElliotKeaton 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And how much of that money actually funds academic programs/faculty/expansion at those universities vs. just funding the college athletic programs? My point was, we invest a LOT of money in college/professional sports that could be used by our sorely under-funded/understaffed public school system, and would be far more beneficial.

      The problem is that Lisa, and students that want to learn in general, were complaining to the teacher and the school to stop showing movies. The solution is to convince every student in that classroom that is better to stop watching movies and learn, so that every single student is complaining about the same issue and thus the school will be forced to accomodate the new popular demand. Nothing changes by complaining to the government, only by full support of the population can things actually change.
