Shawn: Your Country is absolutely beautiful!!! I love the places you go! Thanks for sharing this video and helping out a buddy. That's a Four Wheelers creed...never leave your buddies behind! No matter what it takes! Glad he made it out without breaking the front end. A front locker would have helped considerably.
I love the spirit of Collin. Push through and worry about it later. sometimes you got to do what got to do. funny how I have both the LC and the Gladiator. I love them both equally.
I've been called worst things haha When it happened we didn't get it on camera but I told Shaun I'm saying the whole weekend. Not gonna let a small breakdown ruin my trip.
Such a fun video. Watched Colin’s version of the trip. Loved how different they both were and yet so enjoyable. Good job guys. That’s what it’s all about making the best of it despite the obstacles.
Such a nice build on the Land Cruiser and then for that to happen. You handled it well. I would probably turn my 85 FJ60 around. Now I know it is even tougher than I thought. Thanks.
I really enjoyed this video. I know good people when I see them and you can tell Colin is and he has a great sense of humor! Good thing he went wheeling with a a bad ass with a Jeep Gladiator to get his poor yota home! Awesome drone footage Shaun thanks again for bringing us along for the ride!
When you have some time could you explain how you choose what drive mode you run in certain terrains. Like why 4WH and 4WL and when you decide to unlock the lockers and lock the diff up. Would be greatly appreciated and educational. Cheers.
On a true 4x4 you’re in 2H on all pavement that isn’t covered in snow so you don’t wreck you’re drive train. You’re in 4WH with diffs unlocked on gravel roads and basic off-roading. You lock your difs when you’re wheels may leave the ground on any one corner so you still deliver power to the wheel on the ground (without dif locks or positrac when one wheel lifts on an axle all the power will go the one in the air). 4L is reserved for when you have a need for massive constant torque but speed won’t help you overcome the obstacle ahead, and it’s rare to be in 4 low without your difs locked. Dif locks behave a lot like a transfer case - constant power delivered across 2 outputs. It’s why you don’t drive in pavement in 4wd and why you don’t drive with locked difs at speeds on a gravel road. The different speeds your wheels move going around a corner will destroy either your transfer case or difs if you push them too hard too long. Hope that helps - I’m not an expert, but I’d be happy to answer any more.
Big hand for Collin for persevering with a blown diff, and mentioning 4WD Action/4WD24/7 in OZ. Now Covid is behind us maybe you could invite them over for a real BC adventure? Top vid as usual.
@OverlandingOverLand hey mate, I can tell you personally the dirty 30 is on its way over to the US as we speak! Shaun should be over there to film sometime either June or July!
Great video Shawn! Good to see you out having fun with your new build! Better than putting on mirrors with lights in the driveway... Enjoying you and your videos more all the time.
Well Shawn you did it again. It's amazing the drone footage you get of the Great White North! I'm sitting here in S. Florida jealous of the incredible places you get to wheel in.
I'm gonna say that living in the southern Appalachia mtns this area is overlooked entirely. We have some very difficult trails and pretty gnarly terrain. Even just people's driveways are nuts
Hey Shaun. When you say safety 2nd you ain't kidding brother. Blown rear in the middle of the Canadian wilderness in winter? "Ahhh no prob well worry about it later" Lmao. You guys are awesome. Gotta get up there one of these days and hang. Another great trip. Thanks for taking us with you. 👍
Curious about 2 minor details. First, right hand drive, hmmm, interesting. Does this mean that you would pick a different line going through an obstacle? Secondly, do we get to see just how much of your rear end is left after that awesome 4X1 trip? I've driven a few vehicles to death but I made it home.
Good questions, I would pick the same line as if I were to drive a LHD Vehicle. Just means I have a better vantage point and vise versa depending which side the obstacle is. If you go to my channel and hit the community tab, you'll be able to see some pictures of the rear diff. Cheers!
While we’re on the subject, fun fact … that Land Cruiser is RHD because it’s a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) and they drive on the left, like in the UK and Australia. It’s a 61 Series, the 1 denoting JDM. Others - pretty much identical apart from a few home market differences - would be a 60 Series and built in LHD and RHD depending its destination market. Sadly I doubt it has a locker on the front diff… which doesn’t help when the rear isn’t driving at all. Love Land Cruisers Love this channel ❤️🇷🇴
Just wondering what psi you guys were running in the snow and on your trip… it’s something that I was wondering if I should put at the beginning of my videos for Sherpaone .. Cheers ! PS enjoy your Editing work. Thanks.
Another great video Shaun. Question, are there any particular Jeeps that inspired your build? I know pretty well in the Jeep Community we tend to get inspired by other builds, when it comes to mods.
So I wonder if the same break occurred on the Jeep would it have been as equally capable as the Toyota. I say bravo to the Yota for mostly holding its own in ONEWHEEL drive. Most jeep guys would be like oh trips over
that old rig is rough. In addition to his mechanical issues, every time he hits a bump, he nearly tumbles over. New suspension maybe? Better man than me, I would have towed him straight to pavement.
It’s great now that I have a diesel heater, but it’s not really great for winter out of the box. The doors not zipping on the bottom is the biggest issue there, as it lets a draft in. I’m going to try and fix it with magnets.
Yes, when your trip gives you lemons you make lemonade with it. The recovery video was awesome something different it works. I see you’re trying to get to 200 K I’m hoping to get to 200 subscribers Lol
