I'm in my 60s, and the sewing machine commercial reminded me of my childhood...when women made their own clothes. They cooked and baked food from scratch. They took pride in their homes, their appearance, their children and their marriage. Today women don't have the skills and talents of those women. I'm Italian, and I remember the wooden kitchen tables, dusted with flour because they made their pastas. I'm so grateful for those memories...these days women are preoccupied with their devices, and taking selfies is considered a talent. Their children are given their own devices so mom doesn't have to interact with them. The food is cooked in factories, so mom doesn't have to cook. I remember the women in the neighborhood getting together to play cards...their chatter and laughter was like music...today we play cards on our phones, by ourselves. I'm so grateful to have been born in '59. I feel sorry for the generations that have come after. They'll never know what they missed...

I have a Premium membership to TH-cam because I absolutely hate commercials. Having said that, these Singer Sewing advertisements are a real blast from the past and I actually find them to be delightful. My mother was a seamstress and LOVED her Singer sewing machine.

So did my Mom. Yup the only ads I love on utube.

Yes, my mother made all her clothes and mine. She was truly gifted. Bless her heart, she tried to teach me to sew...I must have ruined yards of fabric before she realized I didn't have her ability.

When men and women have children, (or animals), those innocent beings should know they are loved and be treated with KINDNESS!

Omg David Niven is so great! One of my favorite movies is, “Separate Tables.”

Yes, excellent movie Separate Tables, and it was heartbreaking too! David Niven played some part in that!

I know of a Singer Sewing Machine company factory in Podolsk, Russia; a pre-revolutionary concern that had production facilities there. And still had its logo on the walls last time I looked. So wasn't scrubbed off in all that time - 70 years!

Each member of "FOUR STAR PLAYHOUSE" (with the exception of Merle Oberon and Ida Lupino) produced the episodes they were featured in, because they were equal partners in the company. Niven was no exception. His episodes ranged from light comedy to pure tragedy.....and he had the acting chops to pull them off.

Niven was a good actor and a seemingly fine person. It’s unfortunate that his second wife, Hjordis, was a horrible shrew and the total opposite of his first wife, Primmie, who died from an accident at a house party. 😢

the Singer ad demo stitch close-ups are an added bonus to 4-StarPH. The ads compiled/posted in themselves would be a great, great posting for today's Boomer quilters and the younger newbies.😎

12 thousand views and only 250 Likes... I don`t understand it.
My mom had a Singer sewing machine, just like the one in the advertisement.
I grew up watching her working on it. Sweet memories.
Thank you very much for sharing.

I'm so happy that I found this: even the old corny commercials!

What do you mean "corny"? I never realised I needed a sewing machine with a zig-zag needle as much as I do until tonight. And as for the wonderful David Niven, isn't he just superb?

David Niven, a joy to watch and in this one you get twice as much. I didn’t realise Singer in the title meant Singer from the old sewing machine company.

My late mom had a beloved Singer sewing machine. But she had a very kind heart and leant it to someone without telling us. And that someone never bothered to return it after she passed way. 😏

As a boy, I wanted to be David niven. Alas, as a fat kid from The Bronx, there was never a chance. For a few years I had a mustache. Oh, well.

Always wondered if cousins could look alike if their fathers were identical twins - that was the premise of 'The Patty Duke Show.' But wouldn't their mothers have to be identical twins, too?

Isaac Singer built his mansion in the town I grew up in,Paignton, in England's West Country. It's a gaudy, nouveau riche pile that now serves as a government office. His girlfriend's head was pulled off driving along the seafront when her scarf caught in the back tyre of her sports car.

Isadora Duncan had a relationship with Paris Singer, Isaac's son, and had a son by him, who died in the care of the nanny along with his half sister. Isadora died by strangulation from her long silk scarf when it wound around the wheel and axle of the car she was in. This happened in Nice, France, 1927. ( Wiki.)

This is at least the second show where Niven's character wants to kill someone, fails, and messes up his own good fortune. 😮
"Tunnel of Fear" was the other one.

The trouble with Dvid Niven was that he had a kind, sophisticated, typically British Officer or Country Gentleman face - rather unbefitting most characters he played!
