You should totally see the movie, it’s sooo good❤️ I love the story and characters. And Helen is a legend. And this song is extra powerful because of the lyrics and context. Helen’s character Gabriella is a victim of domestic abuse by her husband💔 She is a very shy and quiet person and doesn’t want to sing at the beginning, but later gathers up the courage and absolutely nails it. And here she sings about wanting to be free and live her life the way she wants to. And the moment where you see her husband in the audience and she looks him dead in the eye. So powerful
That final bit “I am here and my life is only mine! And there heaven I think is there, I’ll find it somewhere”. Knowing the story too, it’s tears every time I hear or sing it! Such a great character and important story ❤️
The long pause in church before people start clapping is classic swedish church. Everyone: "I loved it but Is it really ok to make a noice in church?" *Someone else made a noice* Everybody: "Yaay!"
A lot of people I've talked with about good singers agree that Helen is the go to answer for "this newly written Swedish song is amazing, who should sing?"
I lived in Germany when this movie came out. It played for TWO Years at the same theater, with full audience every night. I don’t remember how often I saw it then, but I do know that it always had the same impact!
The same thing happened in Sydney Australia! I think it might have even gone for longer than 2years?! I saw it and was in tears (I speak basic Swedish too, so love to sing along to this too)...I love love love this film ❤️
Hi. In case you haven't heard/seen it already, "Mono music" have posted the theatrical performance of that song. Believe it or not, it is even more powerfully sang. Helen pretty must yells "Du måste" at time. It is incredible.
I thought for sure Micke Nyqvist was a stand up cardboard image at the back, but then I saw him moving. His head is twice as big as everybody else's! RIP Micke
Yäääässsss! So happy that you enjoyed it. It's a really emotional song and Helen's voice gives it so much vibrancy and power. (Jag kan verkligen rekommendera den filmen. Vacker och tragisk på samma gång. En rejäl dos av mänskligt lidande, men filmen visar också hur det vackra, rena och goda kan överleva trots det.)
In the movie Helen sing’s this song after escaping from her abusive husband. She takes back the power over her self and her life. The part; “mitt liv är bara mitt” is so powerful

The one of te biggest pop/rock band in sweden - KENT th-cam.com/video/fWxUr_vDwwE/w-d-xo.html Kent was a Swedish rock-pop band, formed in Eskilstuna in 1990. With members Joakim Berg, Martin Sköld, Sami Sirviö and Markus Mustonen, the band has had numerous radio hits throughout Sweden and Scandinavia and consecutive number-one studio albums on the Sweden top list (Sverigetopplistan) beginning with the release of Verkligen (1996) and led by the single "Kräm (så nära får ingen gå)". With origins rooted in distorted rock, they found mainstream success through their alternative rock albums of the mid-1990s, 2000s and 2010s, the latter decades during which they adopted elements of synthpop. With eleven number-one albums, five number-one singles, 23 Swedish Grammy Awards, and over 3 million record sales, Kent is considered the most popular rock/pop group within Sweden and throughout Scandinavia. Vapen & ammunition (2002) topped the Swedish charts for 95 weeks. Kent is often compared to bands like U2, Coldplay and Depeche Mode. Because Kent's songs are primarily performed in Swedish, they are unfamiliar to most English-speaking audiences. Kent briefly attempted an international career with English versions of the albums Isola (1997) and Hagnesta Hill (1999) and an accompanying American tour for the former, but stopped after finding less success than they had in Scandinavia. Joakim Berg, the lead singer and lyricist, says "there are two kinds of lyrics I write. One kind is based in places and the other is based in feelings. You move between those two whether you want to or not. 2016 get the band invold in the swedish music Hall of Fame
She's fantastic. I saw her once in Circus in Stockholm, front row and when she sang one of those long final notes she was looking straight at me. I can honestly say I felt that.
Did you watch the movie, Jonathan? Michael Nyqvist was a splendid Swedish actor.. may he rest in peace. He has done some great roles in movies, you should check him out.
Part of that movie was filmed outside of my hometown. The school that they started the choir in is the building. We believed it was haunted, it no longer exists though.
You should really see the movie! I just saw it on tv the other day. But if you see it, and you read the lyrics and understand the situation that she’s in when she is singning (being abuse by her husband and afraid of having a voice of her own) and hearing her sing ”I want to live my life”, ”I have to be happy”, ”I have never forgotten who I am, I have just let it sleep”... so powerful!! 💛💛💛 see the movie and then hear the song again and comment... the movie does add a lot, even though the song itself is amazing 😍💛🎶
Jonathan, I am so glad I found your channel! I've been listening to Svenska music for about 25 years, and I envy you, living in Sweden. May I make some suggestions? You said you had some other Marie Fredriksson Swedish classics, but I haven't seen them yet, and I recommend these: the live performance in 1988 Marie Fredriksson Jag Brande Din Bild Live Cirkus Broadway - TH-cam; of course, Marie Fredriksson - Sparvöga (Official Video) - TH-cam, and there are so many more. I've taken a liking lately to Miriam Bryant, but maybe she's not considered classical, yet. Looking forward to more.
She is nice, too. I was skating for like the second time in 40 years and was a bit wobbly. She offered her hand. I would have prostrated myself on the ice before her if I hadn't been forced to ask her for help to get up afterwards.
@ Jonathan Rollins - The movie had an Oscar nomination for best foreign film that year. It's about a conductor moving to a small village and be helps the quire to get better, and then be takes them to a big contest.
The music of this song is written of Benny Andersson of Abba, a guy that cannot even read music. If the film is available with english subtitels - watch it. It gives the song an emotional foundation - espessionaly if you are traditional feminist.
React to everything from the group KENT 💪🏻🙌 And Anita Lindblom - Sånt är livet , Uno Svenningsson - Under ytan, Lill Lindfors - En karl, Niklas Strömstedt - Om, Orup - Regn hos mig, Darin - Ta mig tillbaka, Den svenska björnstammen - Svalkar vinden & Vart jag mig i världen vänder. Totally. I cried like a baby several times during this movie, but this song stays with you forever.
The long pause in church before people start clapping is classic swedish church.

Everybody: "Yaay!"
So true!!
Finns ingen sångare som kan förmedla känsla som Helen Sjöholm
Helen is one of our most powerful and expressive singers in Sweden... just pure amazing.. every time...
A lot of people I've talked with about good singers agree that Helen is the go to answer for "this newly written Swedish song is amazing, who should sing?"

You should really watch the movie! It was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign language film in 2005.
I'm a full grown man but usually cry when I watch this scene.
My sister's favorite song. It was played at her funeral over 10 years ago. I broke down then and I break down nowadays whenever I hear it.
My grandmother passed away today and for me as a swede to see your reaction to this song just made me cry. It really means a lot to me.
I'm sorry for your loss

It´s a really beautiful and powerful song.
It´s always great hearing a foreigner being able to say "Sjöholm". Our "Sj"-sounds aren´t easy.
It differs between dialects though.
Sj sounds are generally difficult while tj sounds are easy. Tj is like the English sh.
@@JaharNarishma I always think of Sj as "fur" mixed with a "ch" throat sound. Or just copy how people introduce her.
I get the chills every time...EVERY TIME! WOW!!!
You should listen to "Du måste finnas" from the Minnesota concert, also by Helene Sjöholm, It is the most fantastic video of a song I have ever seen
Magisk

She hadn't escaped him yet, she was abused one more time first, wasn't she?
I’ve seen Helen perform a number of times in both London and Stockholm. She’s amazing.
I get goosebumps every time. A nice touch is that she’s actually singing with an accent in the movie, not the one she has normally
I was just gonna say that. Gåshud!

I guess all of you check out the lyrics, and translate it to your own languages... This is a powerful song... A really powerful song...
It's now that life is mine
I've had a moment here on earth
And my longing has brought me here
What I missed and what I got
That is still the path I have chosen
My confidence far away from the words
Which has shown a little bit
Of the heaven I never reached
I want to feel that I'm alive
All the time I have, I will live as I want
I want to feel that I'm alive
Know that I am enough
(Oh, oh, oh ...)
I have never forgotten who I was
I just let it sleep
Maybe I had no choice
Only the will to remain
I want to live happily
Because I'm me
Be able to be strong and free
See how the night goes towards the day
I'm here
And my life is just mine
And the heaven I thought existed
Should I find it somewhere
I want to feel like I've lived my life
