You really have to check out the subtitled live versions of “du måste finnas” by Helen Sjöholm and “guldet blev till sand” by Peter Jöback from the musical “Kristina från Duvemåla”. It’s written by Björn and Benny from Abba and it was Helens and Peters big break. It’s about a family that lost everything they’ve ever had and believed in when migrating from Sweden to the US during the gold rush. I believe the live versions on TH-cam is from when they performed in Minnesota, since most Swedes that migrated to the us later ended up there.
This is one of the most beautiful Swedish songs, and that says a lot. Helen Sjöholm has been a great artist for many years. As a Norwegian it's a pleasure to praise this song, because I think this could only have been written by Swedish people in Sweden. You can here Sweden in the music.❤
She's brilliant! The original song is from a movie and the character that she plays is being abused by her husband. This song is kind of her way of breaking free from him. Claiming her life for herself again. Helen is a brilliant singer who first became famous in Sweden for the portayal of Kristina in the musical Kristina från Duvemåla that is composed and written Björn and Benny from ABBA. It's based on an old book series about the people that emigrated from Sweden to America in the 1840's. You should check out this clip of her singing in the musical: th-cam.com/video/vk76_iqw-Pc/w-d-xo.html
In her roll in the movie "Så som i himmelen" she had an abusive husband, and he didn't allow her to sing in the newly started choir. She went anyway, and the other members of the choir understood her situation after a while and helped her. The song is about Gabriella wanting to be happy and free again.
The film got Oscar nominated actually, tbh it’s not one of my very top favourites but she sings the song at the end of the movie, maybe you can find the film with English subtitles if you wanna watch it.
Check out when Helen Sjöholm sings in the musical "Kristina från Duvemåla" written by Björn and Benny from Abba. She sings a song called "Du måste finnas" which is available with English subtitles. She also does it in English and then it's called "you have to be there". The musical is based on a book series by Vilhelm Moberg about a Swedish family that emigrates to Minnesota in the 1840s. Kristina, who Helen portrays in the musical, never wanted to leave Sweden, when she has lost a child for the second time and was told by the doctor that if she gets pregnant again she will die, her faith in God is shaken. Another fantastic song from the same musical is "Guldet blev till sand" (The gold turned to sand) by Peter Jöback. It's available with English subtitles. It is about Robert, Kristina's brother-in-law who was not satisfied with being a settler in Minnesota. He got gold fever and took his friend Arvid with him to California to look for gold. After 4 years, Robert came back to Minnesota a broken man, alone. Kristina wonders why he has Arvid's watch in his possession, and that is the prelude to this song.
Her live performance for 'Du måste finnas' is my all favorite song performance, when taking into perspective both technical vocal skills and also delivering feeling perfectly connected to the lyrics. Plus those lyrics are awesome, so should probably be reacted to after learning about the context of the story and with a translation. She's truly a special gem for giving us these musical experiences. ❤
Ahh... Please check out the swedish subtiteled version from the movie "Såsom i himmelen" - feeling the lyrics in the moment, is awesome... And another suggestion is the amazing "Du måste finnas" from the musical "Kristina från Duvemåla" live. Cheers bro!
Worth mentioning that this music was composed by Stefan Nilsson, Swedens leading composer of film and TV series music and much more. Stefan tragically passed away of ALS a little more than a year ago.
You absolutely must listen to this song in its proper element. Watch the movie "As it is in Heaven" where her character sings this. The song takes on a completely different meaning in its context.
Helen is from my hometown, Sundsvall (400 km north of Stockhom) and one of my closest friend was her classmate in school. She works a lot with Björn and Benny from ABBA both an actor and a singer. She has playde i many of Björns and Bennys musicals through the years. This song is from a swedish movie named "Såsom i himmelen" (As if in heaven)
She became a star in Sweden in the musical "Kristina från Duvemåla" (Kristina from Duvemåla), a musical about Swedish emigrants written by the ABBA guys Björn and Benny, based on the books of Swedish famous author Vilhelm Moberg. She then made some movies like this: "As it is in Heaven" where she plays a wife who is abused by her husband. This is her song when she breaks free. The movie got an Oscar nominee for best foreign film. A new movie based on Vilhelm Moberg's books about all the Swedish emigrants has also been released in 2021: "The emigrants". Both those movies should be on your reaction list if I got a say. 😊 The latter for understanding "Allt för Sverige" even more.
Hi😊 it is Edsberg Castle, Blue Salon in Solen. Edsberg castle is a former manor at Landsnoravägen 10, located in Edsberg in Sollentuna parish in Sollentuna municipality. The current building was completed in 1760 and was erected on the northern shore of Edsviken on the initiative of Thure Gustaf Rudbeck. After the property and castle had been in the Rudbeck family's possession for almost 200 years, first the land and later the building were sold to Sollentuna köping. The castle and the park are today owned and managed by Sollentuna municipality.
A national treasure. This performance is fantastic but it should be experienced by watching the movie, where the song originatea from, and Helene also plays the part of the character that sings the song.
This song charted at Svensktoppen for 68 weeks from 24 October 2004to 5 February 2006, peaking at second position before leaving the chart. The song also became famous with the 2004 film As It Is in Heaven. Another song by Helen ithat is epic is Du måste finnas. th-cam.com/video/a2idVI73ais/w-d-xo.html
Me and my choir were extras in this film!! 🙂 Helen Sjöholm... "Du måste finnas".. Is her best song ever I think and it is amazing.. And I like "ljusa kvällar om våren".
There is a version of this song with subtitles (from the movie its in), thats the version I’ve usually seen people react to. But yes a beautiful song in any case❤
Has someone mentioned the movie shes playing and singing this actual song. Its called ' As it is in Heaven - (svenska: 'så som i himlen') , I recommend you to see the movie and to see Helen sing this song as her character Gabriella is BEAUTIFUL!! It reminds a bit of another movie 'House of Angels' that is directed by Colin Nutley, is aɓ the typical swedish country mentality of those who live here in small villages. So see the movie(s) and youll see the whole pic of Gabriellas song.
The song is about domestic violence. Or rather about getting away from a relationship about DW. Espacially clear in the part ”I’ve never forgotten who I am. I have only let it (or me/my innerself might be more correct) sleep”. It’s from a movie called ”så som i himmelen” (”as it is in heaven”). Would love to know what you think about the movie if you ever watch it. It’s beautiful!
Hi cute 🥰 Like ure channel 😊 I live in Sweden but i`m from Finland and all ure reactions is fun cause nothing is new for me , music is my passion and many artist doesn`t become famous here sadly so i stream them on spotify 😇
Py Bäckman who wrote this song also wrote "Stad i ljus". Tommy Körberg who often sings with Helen Sjöholm sings "Stad i ljus". Almost the national anthem of Sweden many thinks. He sing it in Eurovision 1988. Watch it on TH-cam. 😍🙏🤗 Stunning!
If you haven't allready you should really watch 'Du måste finnas' by Helen Sjöholm. It's from a play called Kristina från Duvemåla and is a story about the big immigration from Sweden to America. Helen sings with such beautiful and intense emotion in that specific song!
I haven't seen the movie but I interpret the lyrics as a woman that has lived in an abusive relationship, and finally had the courage to leave. She had very dark moments during this period, and only the will to be around on earth made her carry on. She never forgot who she was deep inside. Now it's time to live her life as she want and be around people that love her for who she is.
You NEED to check out her song "Du måste finnas", aka "You have to exist"! It's on TH-cam with English subtitles, make sure you get the live one, it's pretty old.
Lyrics in English: It is now that life is mine I’ve gotten some time on this earth And my longing have gotten me here What I’ve missed and what I’ve gained Although it’s the path I’ve chosen My belief far beyond the words That have shown me a little piece Of the heaven I’ve never reached I want to feel that I’m alive All the time I’ve got I will live as I please I want to feel that I’m alive To know that I’m good enough. I have never forgotten who I was I’ve just let it sleep Maybe I didn’t have a choice Just the will to still remain I want to live happy Because I am who I am Be able to be strong and free See the night turn into day I am here And my life is only mine And the heaven I thought existed I will find somewhere I want to feel that I’ve lived my life.
I hope I got this right (my native language is Finnish but I know Swedish), here's a translation to the lyrics: It's like my life is mine now I've been given a moment here on Earth And my longing has lead me here what I've been lacking and what I've got Still it's the path that I chose my trust far beyond words That has shown me a bit of the heaven I've never reached I want to feel that I'm living all of the time I have Just to live as I please I want to feel that I'm living, to know that I'm enough I've never forgotten who I was I've only let that sleep Maybe I didn't have a choice just a will to survive I want to live, happy because I'm me to be strong and free see how the night is turning into day I am here, and my life is only mine And the heaven that I thought was there I will find it somewhere out there I want to feel that I have lived my life
If you ask me Swedish is a better language to sing in then English, you can often hear people singing in English kind of twisting the pronunciation to make it work with the music, dont happen very often in Swedish. Of course only someone that speak Swedish could hear that 😋
this song is in a movie. and in the movie she gets beaten by her husband and she sings this in spite of him sorta. it’s and incredible movie and if you ever get the chance to watch it i suggest you do. i bet it’s available with english subtitles.

Sad story but unfortunately it happens to often, I hope Dwayne will react to Ainbusk-Älska mig. Then my tears will sob all over the place.

This was my sister's favorite song. We played it at her funeral. I still fall apart anytime I hear it.

It is now that life is mine
I’ve gotten some time on this earth
And my longing have gotten me here
What I’ve missed and what I’ve gained
Although it’s the path I’ve chosen
My belief far beyond the words
That have shown me a little piece
Of the heaven I’ve never reached
I want to feel that I’m alive
All the time I’ve got
I will live as I please
I want to feel that I’m alive
To know that I’m good enough.
I have never forgotten who I was
I’ve just let it sleep
Maybe I didn’t have a choice
Just the will to still remain
I want to live happy
Because I am who I am
Be able to be strong and free
See the night turn into day
I am here
And my life is only mine
And the heaven I thought existed
I will find somewhere
I want to feel that I’ve lived my life.

my trust far beyond words
That has shown me a bit
of the heaven I've never reached
I want to feel that I'm living all of the time I have
Just to live as I please
I want to feel that I'm living, to know that I'm enough
I've never forgotten who I was
I've only let that sleep
Maybe I didn't have a choice
just a will to survive
I want to live, happy because I'm me
to be strong and free
see how the night is turning into day
I am here, and my life is only mine
And the heaven that I thought was there
I will find it somewhere out there
I want to feel that I have lived my life

You should listen and react to her singing Du måste finnas. The Swedish version with English subs. That is something else.
She is actually self taught and did not have any real vocal training befor her breakthrough.
if you like this video you should definitely check out "Du måste finnas - Helen Sjöholm (Kristina från Duvemala)"

no, it is a woman breaking free from abuse that sings that song.
