More detail in the overall picture with excellent details in the dark areas and more pop to the images with the BRAVIA 9.
If a brighter oled is what you’re after I believe you will have to go for a qd oled or mla oled. These woleds in my opinion hit the ceiling on brightness. I have an A80J and when it comes to next years model its always a “little” brighter up to the A80l. Now the early impression is that this bravia 8 is also brighter but not by much or hard to notice.
Great review Brian! Did you have the chance to try out the Bravia 8 as a center channel with the Quads? I was curious if it was a better timbre match with the system than previous models. I found my A80J didn’t match so I stayed with using the phantom center channel (which sounds amazing). Thanks!
On the verge of a G4. I wonder how the Brav 8 will stack up, also how thick is the TV (total depth)? And does it consume less power and throw less heat than the G4?
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY thanks Brian. Heat production ? (I generally use energy efficiency as a surrogate here)- I have a very hot room with a tough time doing heat abatement. Looks to me like the G4 is more energy efficient than the QD OLEDs (A95L and S95D), and it doesn’t generate bigtime heat and have to thermal throttle… S95D is 3/8” thick, A95L is about 1.25” measured, G4 is 1.125”. Looks to me all the the G4 gives up is color volume and gamut, and it’s actually more accurate out of the box… I still haven’t been able to see the G4 in person- I thought the C4 and especially the B4 pushed too much green… I need bright, cool, & thin. The mini-LEDs are too thick and I can’t get the Brav 9 in 55” anyway… and they give away viewing angle too…
@@jtopdawg6 A80L in 83 is different from other sizes, it has glossy display instead of semi gloss found on other sizes and in 83 inch you get heat sink so you have better brightness performance, 83 inch A80L basically has A90j panel.
I think this tv looks great this year, I wasn’t too impressed with the A80L of last year. If I was looking for a smaller size I’d definitely consider the Bravia 8 but like you I’m in the heavy weight decision and only interested in TVs 83” and larger so I’ve got the 85” QN900D, 85” Bravia 9 & the 83” G4 as my top contenders. Gaming is my number one priority followed by everything else.
I have the A80L and loved it so much I ended up buying another one for my bedroom. Almost waited for the Bravia 8 but decided it wasn't worth all the extra money to just have the latest version.

I'm so glad they finally simplified the naming scheme. Hopefully they'll do that for the headphones and earbuds as well. (They already started with the Link Buds)
Thanks for comments on 83” A80L. You answered my questions perfectly, how it stacks up against Bravia 8 and why there isn’t a 83” Bravia 8. Thanks, Bryan! 🙌
They are completely different technologies my friend. The Bravia 8 is an oled and better all around especially in processing and upscaling. The U8N is a very bright mini led. I personally prefer the Bravia 8.
I don’t think they are saying it’s a bad tv, they are just saying that it’s more expensive than its counterparts and not a major upgrade over the previous year a80l. It’s basically slightly brighter and has lower input lag for games (which is important to some people) vs the A80L. Also a couple minor game mode features added. Otherwise it’s about identical to the A80L in picture quality. It’s better at upscaling older content than its 2024 counterparts/competitors the LG C4 and Samsung S90D but the LG is close in upscaling and the Samsung (while worse in upscaling) is a QD OLED which has more brightness, color, and HDR Impact. You’re basically paying for upscaling ability with the Sony Bravia 8. Like Brian says, upscaling should be an important buying decision factor for most people but only you can decide how important it is to you or if it’s worth paying for. As an avid watcher of old 70s/80s/90s sitcoms and older movies as well as sports the Sony tvs usually get my money when I’m in the market for a tv because I want that older content to look as good as it possibly can. If you want a Sony OLED with Sony upscaling at an affordable price A80L or Bravia 8 are smart buys. The XR processor is best in class

Aside from the slight uptick in brightness and a couple of picture features, is it really THAT much different than the A80L? Thank you Brian, i don't know why i like Woled more than QD oled despite all the hype about the later, maybe i'm too sensitive to blacks and whites colors and contrast
I have both types and prefer QD-OLED because of the color brightness and accuracy. I will say tho that high end WOLED like G3/G4 does have a starker white which jumps off the screen. Without using equipment to measure it the WOLED whites seem a lot brighter and more vivid.
Until processing compression and upscaling gets better for streaming I'm not spending that kind of money on a smaller TV with better contrast. My 85x90l most times blows people's minds and buying that with a full Atmos surround with bar, rears and sub is still significantly cheaper than just this TV in a smaller size. OLED is the best but even with the money it's hard to justify buying 5k TV unless you're really wealthy and even then it's tough when some of these much cheaper models are starting to perform so well. The flaws are far less apparent or distracting and the image can be tweaked to look mostly great to you and your family/guests.
Another stunning WOLED implementation by Sony. I would love to have one of these in my media room. Maybe the stars and the funds will align in the coming years!

It’s unfortunate in many reviews I have viewed the A95L is no longer mentioned. The Bravia 8 is not Sony’s only OLED release for 2024. The A95L has been re-released for 2024. Why? Because in many respects and metrics it still has no peer. Overall Image processing, color accuracy, color saturation and overall Color Gamut. This is a bit of a subjective statement, but as a Calibrator with twenty six years of experience I would recommend the A95L above all peers including the G4. The A95L is not only still relevant it is still in my opinion the highest benchmark in OLED.

Próxima tienes Sony a80L vs Bravia 8 ?
Love your videos and I subscribed and liked this and several more of your videos. I know it's hard to judge from an online video, but the images look significantly better than our 65" A80L. Looks brighter and more detailed. I also played the same content from Jennifer Gala on our 65" A80L. I also have Sony's 75" BRAVIA 9 QD MiniLED TV from Value Electronics and Jennifer Gala's content looks better on the BRAVIA 9. More detail in the overall picture with excellent details in the dark areas and more pop to the images with the BRAVIA 9.
Any DSE? How is the screen uniformaty?
Want to upgrade size of my A80K 55 2022 model. A80L was almost identical. Unsure if really better Bravia 8 instead investing more money in top A95L
Hey Brian, great video yet again 😁 May I ask how good the motion is please?
Particularly regarding football/soccer? Keep up the great work 👏🤗
Great review Brian!
The G4 has a more sleek back to it. The G4 will be brighter and have better gaming features. The Bravia will have equal processing ability.
Looks to me all the the G4 gives up is color volume and gamut, and it’s actually more accurate out of the box…
I still haven’t been able to see the G4 in person- I thought the C4 and especially the B4 pushed too much green…
I need bright, cool, & thin. The mini-LEDs are too thick and I can’t get the Brav 9 in 55” anyway… and they give away viewing angle too…
Unfortunately I don't know the heat throw of any of these panels. I'd imagine the Bravia is the more efficient but that's just speculation on my part.
sony eco mode is meant to help reduce power usage so most likely the sony uses less power
@@kineahora8736 I have the 83 inch G4 and its throws A LOT of heat
Does Value Electronics sell the 77 inch Bravia 8?
They do! Call them and let them know i sent you, and you'll get a great deal
Thank you, Brian!!
This video will decide if it’s worth my money for b8 or save and go A80L
Get the a80l. I have it in 83” and it a beast.
@@jtopdawg6 A80L in 83 is different from other sizes, it has glossy display instead of semi gloss found on other sizes and in 83 inch you get heat sink so you have better brightness performance, 83 inch A80L basically has A90j panel.
@@naveen.119heat sink doesn’t increase brightness. That’s an industry myth.
@@unknownsource4359 The heatsink helps maintain constant brightness. The radiator prevents the ABL from lowering the brightness

How do you enjoy the a80l and what is the use case?
@@dmarable79 I use it for mostly streaming movies and tv shows. Also use it for Playstation 5. It is awesome for movies and HDR / Dolby Vision. Gaming on it could be brighter which is its downfall. I have the 65inch and love it the best TV I have ever owned.
which A80L size do you have?
@@playcold32 65inch
what about speakers? It does not have physical speakers but some virtual surround sound from screen. I don't get it.
Again, I told you previously that you need mention if a TV has Glossy or Semi-Gloss panel. I could see this B8 has Glossy screen in this instance, but other TVs in different videos were harder to tell. Just small improvement you need to make in your reviews.
Brian,
Thanks for the Bravia 8 video. There are so many choices this year... time for a trip to Best Buy!
Brian, looking to go 83" OLED from a Sony A9G 77. A80L 83" with Sony processing or LG G4 83"? Thanks for all of your great videos! The picture quality on this Bravia 8 just crushes the 7 and 9.
The 83" A80L would be an amazing upgrade over the legendary A9G master series. It's bright, and the processing is amazing . The G4 is definitely brighter, but if you like Sony and their signature, the A80L Is an excellent choice and value
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY would you say the 83" version is brighter than their 65 and 77? Most comparisons on here only show the G4 next to a 65" A80L. Wondering with the XR clear, the added heat sink on the 83" if the image is brighter than the 65s.
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY would you say the 83" version is brighter than their 77? Most comparisons on here only show the G4 next to a 65" A80L. Wondering with the XR clear, the added heat sink on the 83" if the image is brighter than the 77s.
If you were going 77” - would you get a 77S90D or 77XR80?
If you samsungs QD OLED this year, matte finish is very disappointing, blacks are definitely not black, any light in the screen results in lifted black levels, even in store where it wasn't in a bright place, black levels are lifted.. G4 totally better....
@@Displays.1234. S90D still has the glossy coating. Only S95D has gone to the Matte/Glare-Free coating.
Question Bri: How is the brightness and specular highlights on the Bravia 8 that you have seen in comparison to the A80L set that you own with it being 83"?
Brilliant review Brian! 👏🏽 Gorgeous tv 🔥 I believe i have made my purchase decision thank you 👍🏽
Do you think the Bravia 8 would be ok in a bright room. Was going to go bravia 7. but still undecided. thanks
The Bravia 8 is a superior product. Room brightness hasn’t been an issue for OLEDs in years.
@@airforcex9412 The Bravia 7 has worse viewing angles and reflections than the X93L and worse blooming - check Rtings for the blooming and you'll see the subtitles bloom all over with the Bravia 7. They bloom less with the X93L and almost not at all with the X95L - at least in the images that they have.
I don't understand why the Bravia 7 is missing a X-wide viewing angle and doesn't have the same backlight as the X95L. It seems they favored the Bravia 9 at the expense of the 7 but the 7 is so expensive compared to the competition and entry level QD OLED.
Crazy...
Watching this video, makes me love my Sony 83” a80 l from value electronics even more.
Unsure between the Bravia 8 OLED or the LG G4. Current OLED is Sony A80J from 2021. But wanting to go one size up so in the market and have heard good things about the G4. Mostly use it for movies, netflix etc. and some gaming (PS5). If you could only pick one between the two what would you recommend?
If you want an upgrade from your A80J
, you go for the upgrades so G4 is definitely a better tv or the A95L if you wanna stick with sony
Movies on both G4 and A95L will be amazing due to the HDR, Dolby vision is a bit better on LGs in general but sony does have that extra sharpness which is unique to them. Processing and motion are pretty much on par. Highlights and overall brightness is better on G4, Colour brightness A95L.
@@falsehope5529 thanks for reply!. I’m in Australia and the A95L are no where to be found unfortunately, so only Sony option would be the new Bravia 8 OLED.

Will this be Sony’s last OLED? Seems like they are going to mini led which are catching up to oled black levels
No it will not be their last OLED. They are not stupid. OLED will always have a market
@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY,For a bright room, would you go The Bravia 7 or 8?How do you rate The Bravia 7?Many thanks for your great videos!!!
I’ve seen the Bravia 7 and 8 for a bright room go for a Sony X95L bro
The reason why is because the Bravia 7 has doesn’t have the anti reflective screen and doesn’t have x wide angle, I had it next to the QN95C and X95L in a bright store and it looked lack luster due to the screen finish
Been waiting for this one Brian! Love e u, buddy! 2024 is the year of the NITTS
I have a quick question. Does anyone know if the 2 hdmi 2.0b ports on the A95L can pass Dolby atmos to the soundbar if I connect an Nvidia shield pro?
Yes but nvidia and the a95l support dolby atmos
Thanks. Just got the Bravia theater bar 9 with a single input. I can test the sound quality in the app.
Yes, but only lossy atmos version from streaming services like netflix, apple tv, disney etc. It can not pass lossless True HD Atmos from bluray etc
Is the Bravia 8 glossy or semi gloss screen?

I'm so glad they finally simplified the naming scheme. Hopefully they'll do that for the headphones and earbuds as well. (They already started with the Link Buds)

My pleasure, my friend!
Would the brav 8 be better than U8n ?
They are completely different technologies my friend. The Bravia 8 is an oled and better all around especially in processing and upscaling. The U8N is a very bright mini led. I personally prefer the Bravia 8.

Hey Brian tech why does rtings say that the sony bravia 8 was a disappointment is the A80l better
Rtings est le seul a être sévère les autres testeurs en dise que du bien

The 9 is a mini led and 8 is a woled. The 9 does have some kind of newer tech in it though but I can’t remember. Maybe the led’s are slightly smaller? 🤔 oh and the B9 comes with a pretty good sound system built in.
Thanks man. Which one would you pick
Aside from the slight uptick in brightness and a couple of picture features, is it really THAT much different than the A80L? Given that it sells for $1k more than the A80L in most places right now, there would need to be a pretty solid difference to justify paying that much more if last year's model is 95% the same

I just got one. Can you tell me the best settings to do
Thank you Brian, i don't know why i like Woled more than QD oled despite all the hype about the later, maybe i'm too sensitive to blacks and whites colors and contrast
Hi Brian! Is this glossy or semi matte at 77 like a80k and a80l?

It’s unfortunate in many reviews I have viewed the A95L is no longer mentioned. The Bravia 8 is not Sony’s only OLED release for 2024. The A95L has been re-released for 2024. Why? Because in many respects and metrics it still has no peer. Overall Image processing, color accuracy, color saturation and overall Color Gamut.
This is a bit of a subjective statement, but as a Calibrator with twenty six years of experience I would recommend the A95L above all peers including the G4.
The A95L is not only still relevant it is still in my opinion the highest benchmark in OLED.
