Nice little break for you Sandy, bikes are such great tools for getting that little bit further in a short space of time than you could on foot. The invention of the bicycle literally improved the gene pool 200 years ago. When people suddenly went outside the village to find a wife. A most enjoyable watch.
I'm going to do some more bike packing this year Sam. The legs are getting stronger and 30/40 milers are within easy reach now. When I was a bit younger my longest day was 118 miles and my longest overall journey was Lands end to John o groats. Cycled in 12 days back in 1992 on my old Revell Romany. I still have that bike but I prefer the more comfortable ride with the atb with fatter low pressure tyres.
Bike's the way to do it Sandy..... fit panniers and get the weight off of your back, far more comfortable. I fit nearly all of my usual wild camping gear on my bike without going too lightweight. Can't manage without a small gas stove and coffee in the morning though! Great mini adventure, enjoyed joining you via youtube again. ATB Andy.
Very nice ride there my friend, and as always, very nice video of it. Thanks for taking your camera along and sharing it with us. Have fun out there in the outdoors.
Another fine video Sandy. It was a pleasure to view. First time I heard a deer communicate like that. It was a great adventure. Also your editing was spot on. Thanks for sharing. Tony
Cracking little adventure there Sandy - You got a stunning morning . Bicycles really are such a great way to get around and see so much . I'm almost 52 now myself and I've never been without a bike , long may that continue to be the case . All the best , Neil .
New to your channel- this came up randomly in my TH-cam “recommended” feed, and I’m so glad it did! You and your lovely environment and fun adventure were thoroughly enjoyable! Thanks so much for sharing! 💐
With all the D-Day commemorations taking place this little mini adventure reminds me of those push bikes being dropped by plane and being cycled off down tracks and into hidey holes. Radios being set up sending messages back to Blighty or guiding in allied planes. Bikes are a fantastic much underrated way to get about. Maybe add panniers to your rack and take some load off your shoulders, could add a tiny stove then for some warm brew to go with your cold food. All the best Sandy, look forward to seeing more bike adventures!
Wiltshire Man very true, perhaps just a "landmark gradient marker" (my own term!) then or something like that used with mapping perhaps? would be nice to know tho!
Very nice, that noisy deer tho!!!! I used to kip out many years back, a thought struck me one time, I wonder if anyone else is doing as I was at the same time, same place..... we will never know.
It is great the extra range a bike will take you whilst remaining semi stealthy without much noise. Nice adventure Sandy. Liked the bit at the end, Ive got my wife programmed to make the coffee automatically now without asking. Only took 6 years but she’s got the hang of it now. 😂😁
Really enjoyed that! Thanks for taking us along walked that old railway with my dogs. never gone all the way to Malborough though. I also have a bike but its crossbreed tyres are to thin to go on stony paths, I would like another bike so we can go on more paths.
We have so much in common, Sandy ! I also have a bike that I've had for years but no used as much as I should, but I do intend to. I really enjoyed your mini adventure. What a beautiful place Savernake is. Not many people could have identified the muntjac from it's call. I bet that would have scared the what-not out of some people ! All the best, Pete
I'm from Swindon , you're channel popped up in my feed , great videos I really enjoy them especially the bike packing ones. I'm cycling from France to Spain next year. Hence I'm always looking for tips in other ppls videos.
Great film sandy. Iv'e had my eye on Savernake forest for a camp next time i'm cycling the K&A canal. its one of my faves and not been down that way for a while. Looks great for a camp, and that old railway looks handy for a possible link up with the Ridgeway. Thanks for the info. Gary,
Another cracking trip you had there Sandy, really peaceful mate, apart form the deer ! Still it stayed dry for you which is always a bounce. Thanks for sharing Sandy, here's to many more. Hoora !
Smart move choosing a route along a Sustran thoroughfare! If anything is ideal for this sort of adventure, then it must be this particular network of paths.
Thanks Sandy, I did my first wild camp in Epping a couple of weeks ago, you don't need much to be comfortable and a bike really helps extend your range.
Did it Sandy, thanks to your inspiration mate. Epic night out in the Cairngorms, Bob Scott’s Bothy in my old army bivvi bag. Stags, red squirrels, eagle, shooting stars. 6 mile hike. Finished with a full Scottish breakfast in Braemar. Wonderful.
Nice 1 sandy . Your starting to see the enjoyment of bike camping. .I laughed when the deer woke you up as the same happened to the 3 weeks ago. 😂 I barked back as it gave me a bit of a scare. 😂 I tend to use my bivvi bag and tarp set up. Great video. 👍👍👍👍👍
Hi agn Sandy, another great video, its great that you are still healthy enough to pursue these adventures. and that we (the not too active ones!)can travel along with you. Just got thru working some cw on 6m opening here in the states, short but nice opening and topped it off with this excellent ride with you. Neil T well said.
Nicely done, what a great little adventure...
Another great video Sandy, that funny looking pyramid would have been a mile marker for the railway.
Great vid Sandy.... you are pushing your luck with the coffee maker though....
Haunting sound to be woken by with that muntjac. Beautiful spot tho, another great video thanks Sandy :-)
Thanks Sandy for a trip down memory lane, I grew up in Newbury & have fond memories of exploring Savernake . Matt from Australia

Nothing better than sleeping outside on a summer's evening and waking up to the dawn chorus
Coops Cooperson I love the smell of damp in the morning!...
Smells like?,atheritis!.
Super, mini adventure & video Sandy, If you're not careful, your coffee maker will be grinding "YOUR" beans ;)

GREAT JOB! Enjoyed the video, cant wait for the next adventure!
Thankyou Gem
Again another inspirational adventure
We really dont need much to enjoy the great outdoor. Wonderful little expedition. Thx for sharing....😊👏
i think the pyramid thingie on the bike path was a navigation trig point. lovely views
Hi Geoff, It may have been but this was so much taller than normal trig points. So much so that you couldn't see the top of it!
Wiltshire Man very true, perhaps just a "landmark gradient marker" (my own term!) then or something like that used with mapping perhaps? would be nice to know tho!
Spectacular Sandy, good company good views good food ( that might be pushing it) ! Alb.... Cam
