Although I am not a mom, seeing your women’s empowered program has inspired me! I am seriously considering going through the program over the summer. Being a college student, i am often in situations where I can feel uncomfortable and unsafe around the university. I definitely feel like this can give me more confidence and security in myself. I am also becoming an EMT very soon, which can be a dangerous job at times. The closest facility I am to is in Apple Valley, which I am so grateful for!

This has happened in my own neighborhood a few months back. A guy grabbed a little girl at the park. Gratefully she fought the guy off and ran as fast as she could. She was terrified but she’s safe. I hate that we have to worry about this but I’m glad are ways to protect ourselves and our children.
Don't gotta worry and live out of fear. Just treat it with the same practicality as teaching to not run with scissors. Sure we teach safety but we aren't living in constant panic about knives and scissors in the home. Maybe you didn't mean that, but there are mother's out there who wanna live in denial that these things happen :(
Those dislikes are all from past, and present fighters who lost to the Gracie's, and it's a lot of them. Matter of fact those guys have disliked every video the Gracie's have ever made.

My son and I had a code word for ANYONE picking him up from anywhere....if they didnt have the code word he wasnt to go...at all! Even gramma or auntie. No code... you dont go. I also sat my son down and told him, desciptively, what could happen to him if he DID trust and go with someone....and that 9 times out of 10 that horrible person would be someone you know...baseball coach, soccer coach, school teacher. And it happened one day that he WAS put in that situation. He was bik riding to the corner store with his buddy when a minivan stopped and asked the boys to help him find his dog. His friend was going to go. I wasnt sure at the time if I did the right thing scaring my son with the truth but now? I'm so glad I did. SO GLAD!

My daughter walking home from school everyday, I always told her, be aware of your surrounding is no.1 self-defense, don't be on your phone or on your headphone. If she suspects something is not right, run and find other adults and scream like a crazy person. and if she ever grabbed by the perp, aim for their groin or eyes ... hit as hard as she can ... and run like hell.... and scream like a crazy person.

Good stuff. My only concern of teaching my child to go get help from a stranger or putting my child down to face the threat one on one is kidnappers often kid nap in pairs. They create a distraction and then take the child away you are distracted. If someone trys to take my child and I put them down, the second kidnapper comes and takes the child while I deal with the 1st kidnapper. And once the 2nd kid napper has my child the 1st one runs away from the enconter.

What is being described here is much closer to a domestic violence scenario than to a child abduction one. Not that it changes the general message of learning self defense. Situational awareness however is the best technique to use against abduction or say pickpockets. And consider both often work in teams. I suggest you talk with the LAPD on best practices regarding such incidents.

I disagree, I think the most important rule is to be aware of your surroundings and avoid areas that you're isolated in, and the second most important rule is to conceal carry, training for all this time then having someone stab you in the heart will get you no where, self defense is only important if you assume the kidnapper doesn't have some sort of deadly weapon
I love you guys and love BJJ, but I am a little concerned about a couple of things that you suggest/show here: A) I can't help but notice that the "bear/child" keeps on landing on his head when the attacker is tackled down. Truth is, the bad guy will always use the child as a cushion to prevent hurting himself when tackled. (even if he knows ukemi. He's the bad guy, remember that) So maybe you end up stopping the abduction but your kid ends up with a broken skull or a shattered spine. There must be a better way. (for instance, counting that the guy will have both hands on the kid, and going for a rear choke instead?) Again, a regular bad-guy won't protect the kid when falling. B)- The kidnapper might have a friend. Most work in pairs (woman+man) in order to be around couples and kids in public places without raising suspicion. So, if you send your 4-year-old for help, chances are you are sending him/her right into the hands of the bad guy's sidekick. Shouldn't it be better to instruct your kid to step back a couple of meters and start shouting HELP, HELP! at the top of his/her lungs within your view range? This sounds like a better strategy to me than disappearing from view. (if an accomplice grabs your kid, while you are struggling with the other guy, at least, maybe, you can spot how he/she looks like in order to inform the police. Just a couple of thoughts. Rule #1 should be to have your children attached to you like glue and to run to safety if a forced kidnapping is being attempted. #2 is never be stupid and have your children out in unsafe areas in the first place. #3 is to make sure you know how to protect your children or family and self. #4 should be to train your children to protect themselves and run to safety. #5 should be is to be offensive on steroids to the max when something this evil happens.
In dangerous situations some collateral damage is bound to happen. Safety is important yes but onced you are engaged its on. Bruised to broken bodies and the rest my friend is damage control when its all over.A wild animal attacks you, you will have a psychological response to such a situation. Would you rather go down without a fight?

Maybe a silly question, but just wondering: after grabbing the predator’s knees/legs and causing them to lose mobility, what should you do if they then threaten to choke or punch the child if you don’t let go? I understand that they will kill the child anyway if they get them, but how could an injury to the child be potentially prevented without letting go? One good hit to a young child’s head could kill them or a few seconds of strangulation.
What if you go for the legs and the unsuspected kidnapper lets go of the child in the process of falling down? That might cause an injury to the child.

If you can't carry or feel uncomfortable with a gun or knife (Get training if you can carry/Good SD ammo). Then Carry OC spray, a Tactical Flashlight (can be used as an impact weapon) and train. You should always be armed in some fashion.
As a father of 2 I often worry about my partner and kids when im not around,I think all parents who are this should get involved in self defense martial Arts and encourage their children to do so also,gives you great values and and also gives you the upper hand in dangerous situations

Heck I nearly knocked my self out doing a double leg wrong my opponent just hugged my head to his side as we were going down and I slammed my head hard, then only did I know the small details that one would not usually notice

Maybe a silly question, but just wondering: after grabbing the predator’s knees/legs and causing them to lose mobility, what should you do if they then threaten to choke or punch the child if you don’t let go? I understand that they will kill the child anyway if they get them, but how could an injury to the child be potentially prevented without letting go? One good hit to a young child’s head could kill them or a few seconds of strangulation.

If you can't carry or feel uncomfortable with a gun or knife (Get training if you can carry/Good SD ammo). Then Carry OC spray, a Tactical Flashlight (can be used as an impact weapon) and train. You should always be armed in some fashion.

As a father of 2 I often worry about my partner and kids when im not around,I think all parents who are this should get involved in self defense martial Arts and encourage their children to do so also,gives you great values and and also gives you the upper hand in dangerous situations
