What about the one he took from wide which should have been crossed into the box?
Nope they weren't. He kept shooting straight at the keeper because he can't shoot it over the wall.
no they didnt even require the keeper to take a step. He only goes for power now on every strike for some wow factor from people who dont closely follow sport or havent been lifelong followers. Thats always easiest ball to defend it takes skill to bend the ball or pass t into corner. Fact that hes the strker means if hes taking free kick theres no threat ni box to head ball in. He cant score only one in his career was against spain that went up and overwall. Bruno and bernardo will never go for goal thats what most "team" players and creators do, but at least force defenders to thiink and the keeper. Plus you have your striker in box to actually be a threat much more likely to score thatn shoot from spot thats why nobody has scored its math they are setting up team and strikers/defenders in box. This is youth level tactics its basics. It was a 4-2-3-1 formation bruno and leao id beating there man would only encounter ronaldo in there way anyhow and the two centerbacks he just stays in between. Not a true strker so never developed the skill to hld u play with back togoal like a proper striker. He doesnt drag defenders out of box so a bruno or leao can score or create. Watch morata for spain its why yamal and niko williams have so much space and a chance to score. Not only has ronaldo struggled but they have adopted a formation that if hes not scoring nobody else can either. Its a joke. He doesnt press either so portugal dont gain possession ni advantageous areas instead they have to play from out back and try to break down a low block every time.
Its the stupidist system ive ever seen in 35 years watching especially from a team that scored so much in qualifyinig 36-2 they outscored teams all ranked similar to who they have played. Bruno had 9 goals and assists but because he rarely played wth ronaldo and was one when best pass s open pass and everyone was threat to score so they are so difficult to defend. They are one dimensoinal now with this formatoin not to mentiion all other issues lke playing full time in losing effort in non necessary group match when he planned to play 120 minutes in knockouts. Its all indefensible. This is embarrassing and and all Portuguese fans are suffering unnecessarily.

@@AM2K2Right? That was unbelievable. He had a better chance putting himself in the box and letting Fernandes take that FK.
The proof that ronaldo crying was all about himself and not about Portugal is because when he scored the 2nd penalty he went and apologized to the fans DURING an active penalty shootout that could still have gone either way. The last thing on the fans and the players minds at this time in what happened before but rather if they will win the shootout or not.
He cares more about him and his penalty miss rather than the team possibly getting knocked out of the tournament. The penalty shootout was still on a knifes edge, tensions were super high and everything was on the line but in his head after that second penalty he was happy because he redeemed himself, while portugal could have still lost!
That was a nice gesture to the fans asking for their forgiveness for the earlier miss. People complain no matter what he does lol
Of course, absolutely true. It should not be suprising for ppl who own good EQ.
people will hate on everything ronaldo does. ronaldo cried here because he felt like he let portugal and the fans down, not because he was sad that he missed a pen. ive never seen ronaldo cry when missing a pen before in club matches, that should tell you that this time was different because he felt like he let down his nation. apologizing to the fans was a nice gesture, i dont know how you saw that as egotistical and narcissistic 😂😂

Just a remark: the only time when Portugal won the euro cup Ronaldo went off injured after minute 25, and Portugal played way better without him. And won.
And moreover, in 2019 during the nation's league group stage, Ronaldo asked to be dismissed from national duty to better focus on adapting to juventus. They gave him permission. Portugal played for almost a year without him, and they played the best, most fluid team football that I've ever seen Portugal play since 2008. Including a win vs italy which was the first and only time Portugal have beaten Italy for over 60 years. And they did so WITHOUT Cris. Ended up winning the competition and Bernardo was the mvp of the tournament and Ruben Dias was motm in the final, when he was still playing for Benfica. If he had any sense of honor he would have retired from national team after that nation's league. He won it, would have been the perfect send off for him instead of embarrassing himself as he's been doing since. And would have opened up space for many other players that could by now be on an upper level in terms of competing for a starting spot on the 11, like leão, felix, jota, ramos and even neto or beto (ex Udinese, now in Everton) could already be maintains on the national team.

@jcvelez915 u actually stil can if your lewandows or zlatan who have good hold on the ball.they are slow but stil have the mentality passing abilities to do it while ronaldo only has passing skills and heading.apart from that there's not much but he doesn't flop on the field. He makes smart passes
And the thing is there is other old players that still do a job because pace and quick reactions were never what they were about guys like Zlatan and Giroud etc.. Ronaldo was about these things and without them, he is no longer the threat he once was. Respect the man for all he has accomplished but they really need to stop pandering to him, it's very much the case of if you go against Ronaldo you will be the villain, even if he benched Ronaldo and Portugal went on to win without him, you can bet there would be backlash once the celebrations died down.
@@TheBearAndTheBullthis is the coaches fault he had the best chance of getting rid of him without even bringing him to Germany there would of obviously been backlash if they had a bad tournament but he could say the guy plays in Saudi and was terrible at the World Cup.
@@abzino9941 It's cowardly in a way, If he doesn't take Ronaldo and Portugal crash out the blame is on his shoulders, If he takes Ronaldo and they crash out he knows a lot of that blame will then be aimed at Ronaldo and he will get off a lot easier.
Ngl but I feel when Portugal plays its like there are 3 teams on the field. Portugal, opponent team and ronaldo
Remember when Craig Burly was certain that Ten Hag was getting fired. Seems like he has not learned when he talks about Roberto Martinez lol
That's a load of 🐂💩Ronaldo just came from scoring 3 in a row just 2 months ago, I would love for you to name who on that team is better🤔🙄
Presently he’s one of the worst players on the pitch, it isn’t 2009 anymore
I think u guys r wrong. Without ronaldo and pepe portugal dropped out of world cup 22 and it did them no favors and everyone said leave ronaldo in the squad as what else wrong could happen you already lost. So yes leaving 1 player in who stil has moments of brilliance is better then wondering what if this player was not on would we win like in world cup 22 especialy when that player stil scores goals as top scorer in a league. Ronaldo isnt the best but he is stil good makes intellagant plays and passes aswell and is always crucial in heading
Ronaldo has yet to score an open play goal, penalty or otherwise, this tournament so far.
@Joeeye123 ok so what portugal are stil through . The whole team isn't spain anyway. There is Belgium Netherlands Germany France and Spain any of them wil win portugal has no real chance with or not ronaldo so it's best to just have him in the match
@wingedhussar1453 but is it though? If you only play a player that's underperforming every game thus far, how would you know?
@Joeeye123 because they legit destroyed a team in world cup without rodnaldo and then flopped and dropped out in world cup. It didn't do them any help without ronaldo and thts why they are keeping ronaldo as footbal anything can happen and ronaldo can jump and score sometimes from anywhere
@wingedhussar1453 may I remind you they went out to a Morocco who actually defeated Spain the round before and they only lost by 1 goal. That same Moroccan team was in a group with both Belgium and Croatia and yet they came out top of that group. I'd also point out that Portugal had scored 12 goals by this time in that tournament.
I’m a Ronaldo fan but I’m totally agree with what Craig Burley is saying
Ronaldo living rent-free in ESPN FC panel's excuse for heads.
Zero free kick goals this tournament and so called superstars in their prime have zero goals at all, but here we are shitting on Ronaldo yet again for no reason. Never seen a player who's number 1 or 2 all time get treated like this
Never seen a set of fans so fragile. It’s like you think it should be illegal to criticise ronaldo, all of you want is praise. It’s the woke world we live in
@@tevildo45are you really dumb? you really can't baised espn pundits are against ronaldo?
@@tevildo45 what about my comment doesn’t make sense to you. They are saying he is selfish for taking free kicks when both in this game were very close. Period. No one else has scored a free kick. Period. If Ronaldo was smashing them over by 100 yards absolutely take him off. That’s not the case. Not sure why you are so dumb but hey
@tevildo45 Reminded me of trumpards and putinbots😂 Crynaldogirls can join the other 2
Have these players took 60 free kicks in major tournaments and scored 1? What about 6 free kicks in 1 game including one he was meant to cross not aim for corner flag. His conversion rate on free kicks is one of the worst, it’s all about me me me, proving that on the left side of box shot when he should have crossed. Sadly Ronaldo’s free kick stats do not him, you’d be surprised on his shot to goal ration on free kicks it’s absolutely shocking.
Can Craig allow Frank to talk, please?
they talking like silva or bruno was definitely go to score
They didn’t say that they just said ronaldo doesn’t need to take every free kick stop crying
Why Craig don't go and analyze grassroots football
He was substituted in their 2nd game and the rest of the team did nothing, they still didn't do better
Facts
And what did he do in the last 4 games?
It was their first time
He was substituted in the third game. The one against Georgia, when they already qualified for the knockout stages. He had no business being in that game in the first place.
Gonçalo ramos stunk it up vs Morroco and Portugal looked more threatening with Ronaldo on the pitch
It's not as simple as Craig is saying. We may agree, but there is a lot more to it. Also, nobody has scored a free kick at the tournament yet 🤷🏽♂️.
😂 so what?
And no other country has one person taking all the free kicks and missing
Ronaldo's ego will not let anyone else take free kicks or penalties, it would of been a bigger story if the players hadn't went & consoled ronaldo
I want Ronaldo to take my free kicks and penalty screw you guys
Me too because they are far less likely to go in 😂
Yes. Why wouldn't I want my opposition to miss?
CRAIG TOTALLY PILING ON CR7 BECAUSE OF HIS AGE LMAO LOL
Watch the video
We'll all see Portugal after Ronaldo leaves and if all these clowns will still be strongly behind them.
What always boggles my mind is how lots of countries when they get a star player, the whole place seems to put them on a pedestal. Coming from England I can't remember a single sports person no matter how successful has received that kind of blind adulation, most of the time it only takes 1 mistake for half the country to call for their head
Craig Burnley spitting facts 💯🔥
They wouldn't say this if Messi missed haters of Ronaldo on this show
Thats because messi is not ego centric. Messi will always influence a game even when he does not score. Messi will miss a penalty and will not cry about it. Messi will win a game and not make it all about himself. Crynaldo was more concerned on him scoring than the team winning.

Good point about Slovenia. You know, the other team in the match? The one that played well
CR7 never had it easy like messi did yet he's the only one that came close to his level, so put some repect on CR7 smh

I mean he's only 2nd in free kicks scored 2 behind Messi. He has rights to take free kicks when the other players haven't scored a free kick in years.
It was a bit much shooting them all but come on stop the overreaction and constant trashing.
Longevity stat. What is his % scored? A much more relevant number
That Stat is not actually true. But he's also missed 30+ in a row in the Euros!. His percentage record as a player is not that great either. Just because he's insisted on taking hundreds everywhere he plays. A strong manager would define which areas Fernandes and Silva are better placed for.
Yeah, I suppose Fernandes free kick to put liverpool out FA Cup and Silva against Real in champions league, both this season dont count, cf. a player who hasnt played in a high level club game for 2 years.

This shows that CR7 is still a brand to reckon with.
How the team reacted after the saved penalty (not missed) shows they respect and value him.
A tired ageing CR7 on the field still poses a thread to the backline.
I hope Martinez plays him a sub next match .
Ronaldo has as good of a chance or better to make the PK than any other Portugal player. I have not issue with Ronaldo taking the PK.
Ronaldo should be dropped. But the reality is that he will play and take all free kicks and penalties. I agree with Frank that no-one in the Portugal team will have the gut to step up against him, just because he is Ronaldo. Craig mentioned Bernardo Silva with a champion league as if that has any weight against Ronaldo records. Among all people that played with Ronaldo, perhaps Ramos, as the Spanish captain at Madrid, had what it took to step up against Ronaldo, but he didn’t (to be fair to Ramos, Ronaldo was a beast back then).
Who has scored a free kick in this competition tell me
It is not all about who has scored, it is about recognising the fact that one has teammates who are capable to do the job as well and giving them a chance too. That is leadership
U can always count on Craig to cook Misstiano💀
Childish!
Viva Misstiano Penaldo! Viva MP7!
He is an insect infront of him
ESPN is truly obsessed. We get it. He has been woeful... However, if you pay attention to body language of the Portuguese players, you'll find that they rarely look dejected when Ronaldo misses opportunities. It appears that the Portuguese FA recognizes that this is the end of his career, and are attempting to give him a proper send-off by any means necessary. Ronaldo has already made sacrifices and contributions to Portugal's success in the past, all they're doing is returning the favor. Need I remind you, these Portuguese players all grew up watching, and idolizing Ronaldo: they're willing to make significant sacrifices for him, no matter the outcome. The petty grievances from, let's just say, "various fanboys" on here is hilarious when considering Argentina essentially did the same for Messi. Some perspective, please... that's all I ask. Nothing worse in life than a hypocrite.

@@AM2K2 Martinez tax will do that tbh. I was kind of hoping we would bow out in the RO16 so they would sack him. Oh well...
Messi doesn't take every ball and make it about himself the way Ronaldo does, and is always on the top of his performance. So your point is not even relevant. as the other person said, you're waffling.
I don't care about his free kick percentage. Ronaldo is the definition of clutch, he is all time international goalscorer, lets not get carried away because he wanted to score 🙄

This level of delusion needs to be scientifically studied among the Ronaldo glazers.
Clueless pundits, players that failed in their respective careers and didn’t even score up to the amount of goals Ronaldo scored with his head.
They sits in the studio and talk as if they scored more goals for their countries than what Ronaldo has done for Portugal.
Craig Burley career stats;
Chelsea: 10 goals in 130 matches
Derby County: 12 goals in 80 matches
Celtic Fc: 18 goals in 66 matches
Walsall Fc: 0 goals in 5 matches
Preston: 0 goals in 4 matches
Dundee Fc: 0 goals in 2 matches
Scotland: 3 goals in 46 matches.
Total goals: 43 goals in 333 matches
After playing 333 matches, Craig Burley scored just 43 goals for clubs & country in his senior career. Yet he sit comfortably in the studio bashing a man whose shoe he’s not worthy to wear, a man that has scored over 120 goals for his country.
These clueless pundits were responsible for Santos benching Cr7 in the world cup just because G. Ramos scored an hat-trick against Switzerland, only for him to perform poorly against Morocco. Portugal only became dangerous when Cr7 came on.
Messi has 65 free kick goals and Ronaldo has 63. Yet, these clowns often acts as if Messi has tons of free kick goals in his career than Cr7.
Ronaldo is the highest international goal scorer, he’s scored more goals for his country than any other player has scored in the 161 years history of football.
He’s appeared for his country than any other player has done for their countries.
Until the last match day when Lukaku scored 4 goals, Cr7 was the highest goal scorer in 2024 qualifier. He outscored the likes of Kane, Lewandowski, Mbappe, Haaland, Lukaku, Griezman, Foden, Saka, Jude, Musiala, etc.
Ronaldo was subbed off in the match against Georgia, Portugal looked horrible and couldn’t even attack without him.
Ronaldo selflessly demonstrated team spirit by squaring a ball he could’ve taken himself to Bruno, yet this rubbish pundits claim Cr7 is greedy and cares for himself alone.
Bruno fernandez has never had to take any penalties under that much pressure, he has only 1 free kick goals in the premier league. The only player that has been there done it all was Cristiano.
Yes he kicked the penalty into the corner and lost, so what❓‼️ Messi lost a penalty in the World Cup, Messi lost 2 consecutive penalties in Copa America finals, Messi lost two 1v1 chances against a Canadian goalkeeper, we can go on and on.
Messi fans coming here saying they support Portugal and Ronaldo is selfish. its his last tournament. The best player in the world has 1 penalty goal this tournament (Mbappe). no one is talking about him shows that these haters are just hating Ronaldo. Let him play every single minute. He missed a penalty, why not give to Bruno. Harry Kane missed the penalty against france that got his team out of the world cup. Mbappe missed the penalty Switzerland. They are in their prime ...but when Ronaldo misses 1 penalty its too much. Give that 39 year old man a break. he wont be here next Euro. let him play each and every second as long as Portugal is playing.
I have no issue with him missing the penalty. It’s the fact that he burst into tears while the game was still in play and on the line, that bothered me. He’s supposed to be the captain of the team and when his teammates, some of them 15 years his junior had to console him, it just didn’t paint Ronaldo in a flattering light.
@@HeyItsEddy That bothered you?? that a guy that has almost won everything there is to win showing emotion?? dont watch Portugal matches . that will stop you from getting bothered
