I’m a minority and lived in Alabama for half of my life. Currently living in FL but Alabama will always be one of the safest places I’ve ever lived. I hate that you had such a terrible experience. No place is home for everyone, but every place is home for someone! Birmingham, Alabama is home for me.
I have to add that your video is fear mongering. I visit Birmingham often and if I didn’t know better, I would be terrified to visit, based on your video. Every place has its pros and cons but trust me that I have met the kindest people I’ve ever met and felt the safest I’ve ever felt… in AL!

Yeah bham is not that bad. Lived in the area all my life and a lot of the suburbs are actually pretty nice and even downtown has been cleaned up a lot in recent years. If you go to Birmingham looking for trouble, you'll damn sure find it but if you're cool with people and mind your own business nobody will bother you.

Birmingham is a pure horror story nothing safe here

I am born and raised in Birmingham , lifelong resident . Business travel via auto throughout the US . Each city has it's own problems but for certain there are many other big cities where your chances of a serious encounter with a criminal act are much higher than Alabama and Birmingham in general . Blame the poor city governments in control for their lack of handling the needs of the inner city populace. I was a debit insurance agent in Birmingham projects in the late eighties , saw the influx of Crips and Bloods into Bham from ATL . The police would just stay on the outskirts and wait to be called , that's all they could do . To blame the police is a false narrative , to blame the inner city populace is a false narrative . You have good and bad people everywhere in all walks of life be it white collar or blue collar . I just wrapped up my business career in Denver and bought a home there 20 miles SW of downtown . I always had a unsecure feeling while handling daily business there . Never had that hair on the bac of my neck feeling in Birmingham . Are there areas in Birmingham you need to be aware of ? Shit you better have your head on a swivel wherever the hell you are in the US nowadays . People have no concern or respect for life anymore . I don't see that attitude with people that had a disciplined upbringing . And that is for all races . You disrupt the family circle and allow no consequences for improper conduct or actions and chaos is what you get . Blame the handout POS city governments for not providing the tools for families to develop . So glad to be back home in Birmingham . You don't like my hometown take your ass elsewhere

Well stated @ Maddog. This guy just spreads misinformation about Alabama. When there's major cities in the US that's much worse and have a longer history of highest crimes than Alabama. Cities such as Los Angeles and New York have always been labeled as cities with heinous crimes, drugs, gang activity for many many decades.

I am from Birmingham, born and raised. I have lived all over the city and it still blows my mind when people talk about it being one of the most dangerous places in the country. I'm not saying there's not crime or murder, I know there is, I've known people that were murdered. My husband is from Pratt City in Birmingham, my grandparents lived in Ensley and I never had any problems!
I moved to Montgomery for 2 years- my car was broken into and windows busted 2 X's, car stolen, house broken into 2 X's, co-worker shot and I was held at gunpoint in broad daylight and robbed at the grocery store for $12, 1/2 gallon of milk and my cocoa puffs!!!
I love Birmingham and I wish it didn't get such a bad rep

And Birmingham's mayor is your and active a lot in the city. The mayors of majority of the suburbs are the ones hiding.

For their sake, they better have plenty of money & know to keep their place. I hope they are aware friendly faces will come at them only to immediately go behind their backs to spread gossip. There are a few good people in the area, but there are many hateful, racist, misogynistic, vengeful, xenophobic people, too, and if your sister and her family cross one of their lines, may God have all the mercy. Just think Deliverance only in much nicer homes, cars, careers, etc. Many shun & ghost, too. Be well & stay safe to all.

Carry yourself as a victim, you will be a victim. These cities mentioned are no different than ANY "Blue Cities" in America. Jefferson County Alabama is part of "The Blue Belt". It runs horizontally across the entire state, including Montgomery, all the way to Atlanta GA and branches off to several more southerly areas. Your depiction of Alabama is horribly askew, and in this part of your statement you are correct... you should stay away from Alabama. Most of us here recognize the narrative.

The Counties are responsible for the roads upkeep. The State is responsible for the interstates & highways.
The restaurant thing when you walk in happens to white people also, I've experienced it...but it's more you are not a local. People actually stop talking if a stranger walks in.

  • @darrylbice5938

The comments regarding roads in Dallas, Wilcox, and Perry County around schools holds no merit. Those roads are managed by the city or county, not the state. I am white and I interact socialyl in all three of those counties without any trouble. There are a few small trouble spots but most is not a problem. The comments about cops in rural Alabama are also misleading. A lot of the comments you made are highly opinionated not based upon any real data.

It's funny because I have family in Montgomery, AL on my TOXIC "mother's" side, and back in Summer 2019, she idiotically convinced me to spend all of July, stuck in her older sister's nasty-a$$ house in order to get a "good-paying job from the AL government". I DID pass the written exam for it, scoring higher than either of my disgusting, so-called "aunt's" daughters, who are 3-5 years older than me, and once my "aunt" saw my score, she got VERY bitter and jealous of me, and had a falling out with my "mom". We ended up flying back to Michigan, and I've NEVER been more grateful to be born in Michigan and NOT Alabama 😂

I live in Huntsville, well we refuse to call it Huntsville bc the original name is Twickenham. Alabama doesn't have racial tension, my grandbabies are mixed. This is fear mongering. Yes the Gump can be rough but you should of research the area before you moved into Montgomery. Huntsville is not separated by 565, A&M University is on North side therefore you have a higher amount of black Americans close to the college whether living on campus or off campus

As far as my experience and those of family and friends, weve never had a problem going into Bham. I'm there monthly as I live on the outskirts .
I can tell you were not to go. West End, East Lake, and Woodlawn are run down crime ridden places. There are lots of drugs, gang activity and yes murders. From what I read and hear in the news, it black on black crime. Everytime I i hear the news and someine has been murdered, nine out of ten times, it in those areas.
Most working people with children would never move into one of those areas
Centerpoint was once a part of Bham. They voted to become their own city. Since then, the place has gone down hill with more crime.
The problem when people say Bham, people think of other surrounding areas as being a part of it, which are very nice place to live.

Every State, every County, every City, in our United States has problems. Many more or less severe than others. Your 2023 video never addressed the absolute influx of illegal immigrants. Nor would you ever say the word “gang violence.” Maybe TH-cam would not allow it. I suppose I will find out when I post this. I was born in a small town in Alabama, raised my son in Alabama, graduated from night school while working a full time job, travelled the State for my job for 10+ years AND have never encountered any of the problems or issues you raised. Several other comments have addressed areas in which you attempted to “blame” the wrong authority. Authorities are City, County, State. And there is always an individual’s responsibility! I really like what cubwals03 said above. “Don’t start something, there won’t be nothing.” Now, do you plan to review what the illegal invasion is doing to America’s Cities, Counties, States? Are you Blue and support the illegals! If so, let them live in your City, not mine!

My daughter has to go to Birmingham for chemo at the children’s hospital. The homeless population is crazy. I’ve been attacked once…..another time one tried to rob me but I ran….and another time I walked to get chicken wings 2 blocks away and on the way back I heard a click clack sound as I walked. I stopped to see what it was and had a hypodermic needle hanging off my croc. With all that said…..I’m not afraid to walk around at certain times. When hospital staffs and students are out and about it’s not at all bad…..just don’t wander around after dark or early morning lol. I’m grateful we aren’t there often.
Cullman making the list surprises me. It’s nice in Cullman.
😂 I live in Anniston. (in the county). I’ve always heard about the “crime rate” but at almost 50 I can honestly say I’ve never experienced it nor do I know anyone who has had anything more than their cars robbed now and then. Like once in 30yr. I think the crime is only in the hoods. Don’t drive in the hood. Where the video shows u driving is in the worst areas. We don’t go there.

As far as the roads, interstates are maintained by the state using a lot of federal funds. Local roads are maintained with local taxes. Many areas are poor with a low tax base to maintain the roads. Blacks and whites both live in these areas. You need to get an education before you put a video out like this.
