The thing that I love about Dicey Dungeon music is that is uses alot of real instruments but isn't afraid to use Sine/Triangle/Saw/Square waves as the focus of parts of songs. That blend of real and digital always gets me pumped up when it's done right and this song does is ohhhh so right.
This song is a combination of several different leitmotifs and melodies from songs that play all throughout the game. I believe it's something of a finale boss theme? The game requires you to play a LOT to get to the ending so I've never done it myself, despite being one of my favorite roguelikes.
Someone suggesting dicey dungeons? Someone has good taste. Edit: For context on this particular song (and assuming I remember correctly), this is very late in the game, pulling together lots of callbacks to previous tracks you heard over the course of the game. With regards to the crowd cheering, it’s a dungeon delving game, but in the style of a game show, including host, contestants, and audience.
Dicey Dungeons is a rogue-like deck-builder-ish game, where the dungeon has been turned into a game show with a whole cast of silly characters. It’s such a unique OST paired with a unique game, and helps explain the cheers and fun sounds.
god, Dicey Dungeons has such an insane soundtrack. Chipzel's soundtrack is unbelievable, my favorite track from it is probably Swing Me Another Six, but I could see arguments for half the OST honestly, the whole thing is wildly inventive chiptunes. Others I love and still listen to are Fighting Chance, Tempting Fate, Against All Odds, Elimination Round, Lifeline, Bonus Round, and Step Right Up. lots of great experimental stuff in there, somehow perfectly fits with the oddball setting of the game and the game show tone.
Man Dicey dungeons is such a simple concept. You roll some dice and do some damage but how they operate that mechanically is all over the place. Here's a weapon that does 2x your number damage, but not more than 4, here's a weapon that only accepts odd numbers, here's a weapon that only takes 1s but it does 5 damage and alters 2 of the next dice the enemy throws to also be 1s, maybe there's one that needs at least a 2 and you can use it multiple times this turn but each time you use it it spits back a dice that's a lower number. Dicey dungeons is just weird concepts used in cool ways. I love chipzels frenetic disjointed sound ever since I played super hexagon on steam when I was "oh 50cent game? I'm in" lol
Oh shoot! Some dicey dungeons. Nice to see you checking out this hidden gem of a game. The simple gamplay, art style, humor, and soundtrack all go off, and It's just a good time all around to play. If you liked this track, I'd definitely reccommend checking out more of the OST whenever you can. A lot of the tracks are pretty funky!
Pretty cool and impressive! Love the uniqueness ! Pretty much what I love in computer game music! Also heard great things about this dicey roguelike, must be really fun! This reminds me of the old jazz scene to be honest. A kind of music that is almost gone in our era. Its very rare now that's why it feels unique. For those who don't know, improvisation in this type of music was paramount and part of what made it amazing in the first place. Musicians literally improvising on the spot with their saxophones, trampettes and other music instruments whenever they could, making something truly special, emotional and memorable.
Damn, this one was on my shortlist of tracks to send you, glad someone did though! One of my favourite indies with a brilliant final boss theme. It has several callbacks to other tracks from the game, and Chipzel does a great job of weaving them into something new. There is no easy way to explain Dicey Dungeons, but the gist of it is that your party is turned into dice by Lady Luck herself and forced to participate in her game show (hence the cheers from the audience).
God, I love Dicey Dungeons. In it, you are turned into a living dice by Lady Luck herself, who's running a game show where winning will give you a CHANCE to have your greatest wish come true (in typical game show fashion, this is determined by a roulette wheel)... remember the host is Lady Luck, and you'll see the problem. Worse still, all contestants are trapped in the game, in her "Dicey Dungeon", forever chasing after their dreams. Such a cool concept for a game executed so well.
You're on point with the amalgamation of musical pieces in the whole theme. It is multi-phase and uses sounds that are used in different pieces of the game's themes. A clymactic combination of the game's music, a melody for the absolute finale, with the help of many friends of tons of different kinds and walks of life, all uniting against the odds as the music does the very same. Chipzel couldn't have made a better culmination of those familiar sounds players hear countless times.
Yeahhh!! Dicey Dungeons has some super good tracks, I'm so happy that you got to take a look at one of them! This one specifically is the final boss theme, and depending on phase you're in, the music changes.
HELL yeah, banger song of a killer soundtrack by a godly composer for a criminally addictive game. Has a very underground, anything-goes 90s techno approach that - as you said - you just don't hear anywhere else. Strongly recommend Dicey Dungeons as one of those games you just pick up and play through here and there in your spare time. It's a rogue-like, so even if you win, there's ALWAYS another layer and another challenge to try that keeps you coming back. Incredibly deep and complex game, too. Took me over 50 hours to actually reach The End, and I was banging my head to the music the whole time.
Chipzel is such an AMAZING composer so glad you're checking out this OST 😎😎! She also composed for Super Hexagon she's honestly amazing she even performs live :DD
This is the same team that is responsible for Super Hexagon, so you might have encountered them because of that game. Chipzel has also provided one of the 7 soundtracks in crypt of the necrodancer. Finally, I hope there's some more songs from this game in the request list (especially from the reunion DLC).
I need you to know I cried watching this 😭😭 thank you!!
You're fantastic.

late to this comment, but I'd say fighting chance is my favorite track...and a really well named triple pun.

Dicey Dungeons really has an OST that punches way above its weight.

It's a medley!
I got to know Chipzel's music through Super Hexagon, such a talented composer and musician!
SHE DID SUPER HEXAGON!?!?!
@@TopOfAllWorlds Right? What an absolute legend.

I always lose my mind over the brass and sax in this soundtrack. Every. Dang. Time. Especially the sax.

I should play a few rounds of Dicey Dungeons again. It's just pure fun. And Chipzel is a household name

what an evolution from where chipzel started. i love the old lsdj stuff

I've been intrigued by the concept of the game. But now that I know the soundtrack slaps this hard, I'm definitely gonna have to try it!
If you like funky beats like this, absolutely consider checking out some tracks from Dicey Dungeons Reunion. It is funky incarnate and I love it.
This is the same team that is responsible for Super Hexagon, so you might have encountered them because of that game.

Dicey Dungeons has some really underrated music. another great one is Swing Me Another 6
I desperately hope someone puts Track 7 - Tempting Fate in front of you, it's the groovinest, funkinest track on the OST, in my opinion.
Wait, Chipzel!? The guys behind the OST of Super Hexagon?
Shit one of my favourite game! Really good tunes on this ost
I miss some of the beta tracks but they did an excellent job with the full release.
