    Love how she used one string to start to find the note. Then worked back the fretboard to find the notes on the other strings. And a more efficient way to play it. Fantastic vid.

    This practice session is incredible! Ellen learned in 22 minutes what it would have taken most advanced high school or college-age bassists at least several hours of concentrated practice to learn. And yes, I realize she has the benefit of a professional musician father and all of the advanced studio technology he has at his disposal. But even so, 10-year-old Ellen's learning curve is flatter (read: more accelerated and progressive) than almost any musician I've had the pleasure of witnessing. Friends, you're watching a born musician in the making! Thank you, Ellen and Hovak, and please post more of these uncut song-learning videos! 👍💯🤙

    My #1 favorite thing about her is that she doesn't seem to get frustrated about making mistakes. She giggles it away and tries again until she's mastered the part. I know that when I was learning music, I would have been angry with myself and maybe even walked away from it for an hour, a day, maybe even a week if I was really struggling with a piece. Watching her, I see that she's just having fun with it and correcting things as they happen. It's wonderful to see. I could be wrong, but it also seems like she's playing by ear, which is awesome, but makes it difficult to remember where the changes occur, like at the end of that drum solo. She's already awesome, imagine how incredible she's going to be as she grows in her skills and knowledge of music and her instrument. ❤️
    Keep smiling, keep giggling, and keep loving your music! 🎶

    • @andyhinds542
      @andyhinds542 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the best ways to get better is to actually embrace your mistakes and move forward. I have been doing that since I started with Yousician. I don't mind making mistakes as I learn from them, and it helps me to improve my playing the next time I play the exercise.

      In a way I can relate to her determination. I started playing trumpet when I was 9. My motivation (and I think hers) is to make my parents proud. Fast forward I now play every treble clef brass horn. From trumpet to E-flat Euphonium to Double French Horn. My claim to fame is I play in Jimmy Sturrs Polka. I think she'll far surpass that.

  • @netterstyl

    I didn't have any idea what syncopation was when I was her age - I grew up on strictly straight rhythms, when people were hung up on "1 & 3" instead of "2 & 4." And then I heard for example "I Got the Feeling" by James Brown and "It's Only Love" by The Beatles with its great drum part, and everything changed. The light bulb suddenly went off over my head. But she's all over these syncopated grooves, and she picks them right up, and that's a lot of what her playing employs. Very impressive, and at her age - incredible. But you combine her musical skills with her beaming enthusiasm and infectious personality, and you're looking at a definite winner.

    It's so great that you show her to listen for herself and try to figure it out. When I was young and learning to hear notes, I'd sit at the piano for hours on end and match melodies and harmonize chords until I got them correct. Now that I am older, all that work I did when I was young has made playing bass a lot easier and enjoyable. Being able to just pick up a bass line, the chord progression, or groove can help open up your playing a lot! Great job!

Ellen is it .. she makes me want to play a bass and I'd be happy like her..I think my guitar is going out the window and I'll pick up a bass... Maybe that little next thru one ... That would be quite a collectors I thought and looked like it played like butter with that mini little neck scale even more like a guitar than a bass.. the perfect combination., Forever an Ellen fan

    It is so cool to see someone of such prodigious talent going through exactly the same process and method of learning a new song by ear as I have since I was a kid. I'm literally an old man now but I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see her enjoying the process and her determination to get it right. A big difference between her and me is that when she messes it up she lets out a squeal and a giggle whereas I am more likely to cuss😂.
