It's literal canon that Yugi grew the be the stronger duelist between him and Atem. That was like Yugi's entire series long character arc and the main point of the Ceremonial Duel. So of course if Seto can't beat the Pharoah he couldn't beat Yugi either.
Leave it to his bloated ego to forget that it was Yugi who won the ceremonial battle, not Atem, the one guy Kaiba never defeated in either lifetime lol

Yugi really was simply a vessel who happened to look very similar to Atem. It's the same case as Bakura who just happened to look exactly like the Thief King Bakura.
I Just don't know how may times I've watch this opening, it's the best. Seto Kaiba vs Yugi Muto and it's from the movie, Seto Kaiba is on search of the Pharaoh to have a duel again and to know who is the king of duels. Good video.
