  • Watching Parliament made easy! My Africa Brings you all the scenes you really want to watch!
    Newsworthy, interesting and the funny parts MINUS the boring rest of a long Parliament sitting.
    Parliament of South Africa - “To represent the people, and to ensure government by the people in fulfilling our constitutional functions of passing laws and overseeing executive action”. Heated land debate between Ernst Roets (Deputy CEO) of AfriForum and Mp's during land debate in Parliament. CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW COMMITTEE. *****
    The Constitution affords all South Africans the right to see and hear what happens in Parliament.
    For the last 7 years and for the benefit of subscribers and the community “My Africa” search for sequences that are newsworthy, interesting, funny etc. From a, sometimes long and boring, Parliament sitting allowing the community the opportunity to choose which sequence they find interesting and want to watch.
    As a result “My Africa” adds significant value to those effected by the exceptionally high cost of Data and Pay TV.
    Also “My Africa” allows the community to comment and contribute to discussions in a meaningful manner and take stories forward.
    However, we will NOT condone the following:
    - Racism (including offensive comments based on ethnicity and nationality)
    - Sexism
    - Homophobia
    - Religious intolerance
    - Cyber bullying
    - Hate speech
    - Derogatory language
    - Comments inciting violence.
    We strive to make the TH-cam community a safe and welcoming space for all.

    It is good to see these debates. My Africa is a great channel. It's funny, serious and touches on many different points that affect every single South African. I like to see this kind of democracy.

      moosesnWoop123 after seeing this I can understand why South Africa will fail. People can't debate the facts and leaders openly call for war if they can't have it their way. Are there enough open minded blacks who can see past this communist agenda lies?

    • @Alwynbear
      @Alwynbear 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      MoosesnWoop123 I to do not think this a demonstration of democracy. In fact, it was quite the opposite. It clearly demonstrated that if the majority in this parliament does not want to hear a point of view they go as far as an outright declaration of war on those in decent. In a nutshell I heard the following from this committee: We want to take the land you occupy. We will not pay you for it. We will do it as quickly as possible. If you do not give it to us willingly than your inviting war.
      Even the chairperson felt compelled to make a comment in an attempt to distance the committee from that sentiment.
      Make no mistake the question is no longer one of weather the government will forcibly take land from white people. That will be done one way or the other. The debate now has become one which seems to be focused more toward the white communities various strategies in finding solutions that will delay the process rather than expedite it.
      AfriForums arguments seems to be aggressively geared towards convincing people that the grounds on which government is basing the drive towards this outcome is factually incorrect in the misguided belief that anyone actually cares about the grounds at all. I suspect this is a very ill conceived strategy and seems to rely more on international intervention than on widespread local support. I fear this strategy will dismally fail in either direction. It simply reinforces the desire to proceed with confiscation of land as demonstrated by the responses it elicited and even if there is international intervention, the only outcome of such intervention would be economic decline at a much faster pace.
      On the other hand other presenters have walked through the door the ANC opened when they started to argue that the constitution need not be amended to allow for EWC. Support for the notion that the constitution need not be changed is based in the requirement of the courts determining just and fair compensation in each instance. Such approach will allow for a delay in resolving the issue for years, and perhaps a number of generations. From a strategic point of view this seems a much better argument. Though, I fear it is not. It is equally bad for the minorities, but alas, better for economics.
      Weather or not the ANC opened that door intentionally or not is an open question. I would think they did so intentionally. To assume the contrary is to assume they did not think the legal arguments through, which, given the run up to all of this, seems very unlikely. Every person supporting the notion that the constitution need only receive a cosmetic amendment to clarify that fair and just compensation may be as little as zero is walking into a trap set by the ANC government. There is no better example of boiling the frog very slowly.
      This is how I see all of this playing out. There will be a cosmetic amendment to Section 25 of the constitution that will include words to the effect that just and equitable compensation may be as little as zero. The expropriation act will be amended to reflect the basis of compensation to be determined in line with section 25 of the Constitution and furthermore that eviction would be possible prior to such determination by the courts. Government will thereafter deliver the expropriation notices to strategic properties as directed by external investors in claiming such properties as test cases and will engage in the ensuing legal battle regarding just and equitable compensation. The will successfully argue to any international resistance that the evicted persons will be afforded due process in court with a claim for just and equitable compensation in line with the constitution and that the international community must allow such process to play out before we are judged on the basis thereof.
      The only unknown is the extent of the reaction that the communities objecting to people being evicted and having to wait years for legal battles to be thought at extraordinary expense will react. I suspect the government will feel comfortable in their military and policing power to subdue any hostilities. All and all I suspect the ANC is outwitting the likes of AfriForum and all of the people seemingly arguing in favour of such cosmetic changes.
      From an economic perspective I suspect that such amendment, however insignificant it might seem, will have a negative effect over the longer term. In the short run it seems that China will be the biggest benefactor of acquired land even if it is only rights of access and not outright ownership which will vest in the government just as the EFF desires. But the investment China will bring will buffer against the main economic impact.
      None of this will have any effect on the poor and unemployed masses of the country though. Not unless government can find investment that will allow for the creation of employment opportunities of the local population. China has not showed itself to be that kind of investor. The problem is that there may be a drive from the likes of BLF and the EFF feeling sufficiently empowered to proceed with large scale land grabs and criticizing the ANC when they fail to expropriate grabbed land in a similar fashion. No amount of chines investment will be capable of buffering the economic collapse once this happens.

      Lets talk about the 300+ years of white oppression:
      berlin conference , native land act, group areas act, apartheid,bantu education, dispossession of over 3.5million blacks into homelands

    • @Alwynbear
      @Alwynbear 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      BN S If we must we can talk about that. I'd prefer we talk about the strides that was made in the past 24 years through BBBEE though. Employment is, contrary to popular opinion, demonstrably transformed to the extent that the workplace is close to being representative of demographics. Yes there are millions of people, 16.78 million to be exact, who is unemployed, of which about 6% is white. On the other hand the same is true for the employed though. Only approximately 2.2million people in formal employment is white while the rest of the employed millions is black, Indian and Coloured. There are more black owners of residential houses than whites by a factor or about 10. Most new lifestyle housing estates is representative of the demographics of the area. If you are an unemployed black person your chances of obtaining gainful employment in this country is about 92% higher than that of your white unemployed counterpart with the same level of education.
      Whatever happened centuries ago happened. I do not condone subjugation of one race over another. Whatever happened during apartheid happened and I condone none of that either. But I am proud that I voted for the abolishment thereof whatever the repercussions is that is coming to the fore only now. I have no feelings of guilt over my race. I had no influence over any of it and once I had, I, together with most of my family and friends, used it to change apartheid.
      In truth, even if all whites in South Africa was eliminated completely from the economic landscape, denied any form of participation in commerce, jobs or ownership of property there would still be about 15 million impoverished black people in exactly the same position than they are in right now, possibly more. That is a mathematical certainty.
      So, my question to you is this. Is it your desire to suppress white people simply because you hate us and wish for some kind of revenge to be exacted on us? Or do you want to find a way forward that offers the best possibility for all South Africans to find a way out of poverty and to become a prosperous nation? If your answer is the latter than we can engage in discussion. If it is the former, than this interaction is utterly futile.

      White African: Yes, "a bunch of Grade 1 school kids" !!! NOTHING in Ernst Roets´s speech is offensive... NOTHING is his discourse is unbalanced... NOTHING in Ernst´s speech is in need of logical thinking !....... What happened in Parliament was really a very heavy attack on White People, focused on the person of Ernst Roets as representative of the ideals of Afriforum !... Pure RACISM, and an out-of-control wish for revenge! Any civilized country would be deeply ashamed of such an orchestrated behavior, but -- of course -- that´s NOT the case with South Africa ! The severe and long-lasting brainwashing perpetrated by the ANC and its fanatic partners is dangerously pushing the Country down to the hole...... What surprises me the most is that the MAJORITY of South Africans have NOT yet been able to realize they are on the verge of complete disaster... Shame!!!

      The resulting hyperinflation that will arise from this policy won't discriminate either. If a bag of tomatoes end up costing R 300 000, then the price will apply to both black and white people. Take Venezuela's current situation for example:
      "The country's monthly minimum wage of 1,307,000 bolívars - around $6.03 on the black market - is enough for two cartons of eggs, a kilo (about 2.2 pounds) of cornmeal and a box of pasta

      Lesedi Moagi you do realise that the land will never be yours? The state will own the land. That is what the EFF wants. And the ANC wants what is under the land. Why? Because they are going to need to pay China: your new colonisers.
      It's going to be pretty hard to "fight for what is ours" when your government is selling it off to China.

This international law and is very different from what you postulate. The land without inhabitants is written record. Again where there is a difference of opinion please produce written evidence to the contrary.
      Title by conquest was also part of international law at the time. It was the same principle used by the Zulu, Xhosa, British, etc. Do you object to this principle just because of the race of one conqueror then you are racist
      As for treaty and purchases. Please look at the Crudop agreement where land was purchased from the Khoi San. Look and the land purchase made by Piet Retief and many others. Chief Mpande honoured the purchase agreement afterwards. There are many such agreements.

    @tafadzwanasho2634 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    My comment comes long after this session took place but I felt compelled to share. Having watched the full session, I have a few things to add: Whist Mr Roets' presentation may have contained facts and pointed out the shortcomings of the ANC government, HOW one says something is crucial if black people and the white minority are going to find a solution to the land issue. There is understandably a lot of pain that black people associate with the injustices of the Apartheid regime, so when addressing a sensitive issue like this, Mr Roets would have done well to take this into consideration. Whilst I understand the MPs frustrations with Mr Roets, I feel we need a younger breed of politicians who aren't so emotionally affected or provoked by the injustices of the past (In no way am I making light of the horrors of the former regime). I'm asking God how best this nation can move forward in addressing and resolving the land issue in a way that engenders justice for all people concerned.

  • @optimistic5778
    @optimistic5778 5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    Those opposing Afriforum's presentation repeat the same things, such as "arrogance", land was not "vacant". Which land was not vacant and where? Consult the archives. Cite where land was taken by conquest. They come without any supporting facts. Very counter productive. In a place such as parliament one must be as specific as possible. The ANC and EFF are being as broad as possible. Edit: Ernst was definitely on the attack, but it is well deserved as the ANC has been blatently looting state coffers and have been neglecting their job for too long. This whole land thing was their desparate attempt at staying in power. Maybe the ANC will actually do their job and process the land claims after this, if they dont decide to destroy the whole country with appropriation without compensation. Ofcourse they couldn't dispute any of the facts afriforum put forward.

      @ Bongani you are a hypocrite. You clearly don't know the history of south africa. You are just a stupid racist
      African tribes frequently waged war against each other and made alliances for survival. The succession of african immigrants from Central Africa during the time of the Bantu expansion initially led to the formation of merged tribes such as the Masarwa. After some time african immigrants of greater strength invaded much of the traditional San territories. Archeological research suggests that each african tribe succession had better weapons than their predecessors enabling them to dominate the eastern parts of South Africa thereby forcing the Khoisan into less desirable parts of the country. Your ancestors were the ones killing the Khoisan people left and right and stealing their land.
      Go and read a history book, maybe you will learn something. I know it will be a new experience but try it. And stop trying to rewrite the history of South Africa and voetsek back to central africa where your ancestors came from

      Honestly, saying "our people" makes you a racist President?? how could any correct thinking person make that sort of correlation? The truth is that there seems to be a culture of intolerance in Afrikaans community even against their own people. It can be endearing because you can stand together in principle for certain believes which mostly center around preserving Afrikaner ideals but its highly dangerous because you can be easily misled! Most free thinking Afrikaner people are highly ostracized for a having a different view from the herd mentality and as a result are mentally imprisoned while being conditioned to accept substandard or inferior cognitive patterns of thought ! Your individualism or the freedom to test new thought patterns is stolen from you under the guise of being a trots Afrikaner boel! and more often than not, an Afrikaner who is not brave enough to claim that individualism often finds him or herself having to hide their love or interest from anything that's not Afrikaans oriented ! In this thread alone, Steve Swarts is ostracized by some people for expressing disappontment in the presentation. That's cruel!

    How is it that one mans statement had more information and justified motivation than an entire panel of opposition, who did not give a single solution or show how land reform is beneficial in any way. They clearly have an agenda that is more important than the state of the country. Watch the body language and it speaks volumes.
    No doubt what our forefathers did may not have been the best solution, but it did allow for the growth of the country that it is today. Why destroy the whole thing for vengeance. It's like the story of the two mothers from the bible who both claimed the baby to be their own, one mother wanted to spare the baby, the other was prepared to cut it in half. Which do you think loved the baby more?
    As a South African I do not wish to see this country (my country of birth) to be torn apart, by the likes of a few people who only seek to have their own needs or desires to be met.
    The insanity of repeating something and expecting different results is not the example of south africa, but other countries like Zimbabwe who tried the EXACT same thing and failed miserably.
    Don't make the same mistake. I am near the end of my life and dont have children that will have to be subjected to this failing country, but for the sake of those who do, don't act on what happened in the past, as you would only be cutting off your nose to spite your face. Lets take what we have and find a solution that is beneficial to all. All to often in this country we destroy what we cant get. We dont get free schools, burn them. The cost of public transport goes up,, burn buses and trains. We get given a business, we loot someone else's. The girl doesnt like you, rape her. He has what you want, kill him and take it. These things bring destruction and not growth!

    I see a lot of commenters saying earnest is presenting the facts...There is no truth in what is saying..he is just obsessed with blaming the ANC and EFF...
    by the way the anc and eff have not failed the people of south Africa... the government is doing the best it can to help South Africans given the limited resources and budget it has...
    I do not agree With Ernst. I do acknowledge that a long period of time has passed on without addressing this serous matter of land, Which I think is going to lead us as a country TO A very disadvantage side if not handled properly...
    Ernset is quiet right to say that there has to be a form of compensation given for the land...But What I don't agree with him on is his totally abolishing of the process of land reform.
    he has gone some considerable lengths to prevent a democratic course from taking place...and that is something that worries me as a south African...
    I don't want to take the racist approach or ignorant approach for this matter and any matter, and all of us we shouldn't do it..
    what I'm suggesting we should do..we need to come together as South Africans and unite for the democratic course to take effect which is going to ensure that we all benefit as humans and as native South Africans, black and white, and allow the expropriation of land without compensation to take effect. JUST LIKE THAT!!!!
