Replacing the oil seal on axle on Wheel Horse garden tractor also changing the oil in transaxle .

- After changing the oil seal on the axle , I decided to change the oil in the gearbox also . Used 80w-90 gear oil .

I am pleased you are feeling better. I usually use my sisters toothbrush to clean parts 🙂 Great job with the oil seal replacement. We tend to put in a new woodruff key while it is apart. I wish we had a store like NAPA, we have to orider our seals and bearing online

Nice fix on the tractor. I was thinking the same thing, run it for a bit, then change the oil again. That would be a good time to change the other seal too.

PRO TIP ON THE PULLER. Do NOT use a 3 jaw puller on hubs that are stuck. Luckily this one came right off because the seal being bad kept the axle well lubed.
It's better to set up a puller using other methods. There are good pics online.

There is a 1 inch axle and a 1 1/4 inch axle . I had the 1 inch axle . Yes , they should be the same at your Napa .
Very informative but a little confusing when you continually refer to the "key" as the "key way"! The set screw sits on the key to hold it tightly in the key way!
