    I bought one and love it. Shoots and chambers 22 Short, 22 Long and 22 LR. Even shotshells of 22 caliber shoot fine. I installed a full Hogue rubber grip with recoil attributes by design. It matches my Hogue X-frame rubber grips well.

    Sent my GP100 22 LR to Tyler Gun Works for carry melting and beveled the front of 10 round cylinder. Accuracy job and action job with reliability. They hand engraved it for me too. Very reasonable price too. Installed a stainless steel lanyard from Bowen Classic Arms by replacing the screw that holds the Hogue grip on with the screw in lanyard ring. Leather boot lace braided a lanyard on the ring. Love it!!!

    I'm a very happy repeat customer of KYGUNS and always frequent their site (seem to have the competition beat most of the time and that's saying something giving the tremendous perhaps unprecedented myriad of firearms vendors of which I truly appreciate and do no take for granted *[fight 24/7/365 for 2A Gun Rights]*). I love all-things Ruger and really like the GP100 full-lug frame perhaps more than the S&W 5-666 line (their 167 22lr is a real-gem). So yeah, I too would prefer the full-barrel underlug to be sure. Now, while I am wishing for stuff, how about Colt rev-up the old 'Snake Gun' assembly line and pump out some true Revolvers...

    Great review. Glad he mentioned how some 22 revolvers can have extraction/ejection issues. This one obviously doesn't. And I agree with the man...I prefer the looks of a full under-lug.
    The only question I am left with is, are the front sights easily replaceable, just like the 357 GP-100? I'm not crazy about the idea of a plastic fiber optic front sight.

    with the quality issues plaguing S&W revolvers these days, the GP100 22LR is the go-to large 22LR revolver. read the reviews of the S&W 617 and you'll see the many people getting revolvers with machining marks, polish defects, spitting lead, you name it. S&W will stand behind its products from a mechanical standpoint, but when it comes to finish they say "tough". someone even posted the return letter from S&W that came in the box with the gun saying that "the polish imperfections on your 617 fall within S&W's quality standards". LMFAO.
    my advice - go with the Ruger. S&W is on a downward spiral

    Love mine. Snatched it up as soon as they came in stock at my local gun shop in early 2016. I agree, the full under lug looks cooler, but, it is far more balanced than the 617. Sights are better and finish is nicer in my opinion. Not mention it's about $150 less than the Smith. One of my favorite plinkers and I carry it around the family property for snakes.

    If any guys are budget minded, check out the 22s at Charter Arms. They have pretty good prices on their revolvers. All I’ve seen on their site is revolvers, but I could have over looked an odd pistol along the way. As far as revolvers go, I prefer the Ruger SP101. Little more smaller and 2 rounds short, but, lighter and just fits me better.

No one really cares about your stance or holding style but I am sure that 90+ % of those watching would be interested in the relative accuracy of the gun you were reviewing.

      In other words, How did the groups hold together? We are accuracy bingers. Of course we know there was no kick. Does Ruger make a .22 Mag revolver too? Nice capacity of 10 rounds, and i like the full size grips too. Adjustable sights. The fact that youll never wear it out is priceless Ruger makes some Very solid revolvers, as they have never let me down on larger calibers. Ill swear by that , even on revolvers made all the way back in the early 70s. I am sold on Ruger brand.

    • @awesomexistence
      @awesomexistence 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Accuracy and groups are very subjective. It goes bang without malfunctioning or missfires. One guns grouping is not indicative of all others and is ammo sensetive. Rugers reputation in these revolvers is very good.

      @@awesomexistence I own numerous Ruger firearms. Some of the GP100 .22 revolvers had cylinder timing issues, which is mentioned on several forums, including the Ruger forum. When I see this all I can think is WTF! Years ago ruger came out with a sp101 in 22lr 8rnd 4.2" barrel. How much bigger of a 22 do you need? When I wrote to ruger asking them to make a LCRX 3" 22lr (a much more useful platform in my opinion) they replied that they have no intention of making that. This makes no sense to me but what do I know?

    • @zipdachimp7462
      @zipdachimp7462 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +tallesta I think they just could no longer resist moving into direct competition with S&W on their 617. And the half lug version of the 617 is very rare and very sought after. I suspect Ruger will be handsomely rewarded for their GP100 22LR revolver.

    • @DonnerPassWhisky
      @DonnerPassWhisky 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Zip DaChimp so do people use these in competition shooting? I'm sure it would be great for that. other wise its awfully big for a 22lr field gun

    • @zipdachimp7462
      @zipdachimp7462 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +tallesta Not being a competition shooter I can only guess, but yes I would think this would be one that competition shooters currently using something like the 617 would take a look and probably try if they have liked other Rugers in the past.
      I do agree it is awfully big but the S&W model 17 and 617 are about the same and highly sought after. And, danged fun to shoot. I have never had a 22 semi auto so I can't compare with any of those.
      My main stopping point is the cost. A lot less than a new 617 but still not an easy gun to lay out cash for, for me at least.
      As for a field gun. Well, I would agree someone used to a smaller pack gun would not jump for it but someone who likes carrying a gun on their side would likely love it. Looks like a big caliber and shoots like a 22.

      I'm responding to an old post in case someone new reads this. I own quite a few Ruger firearms, but Ruger isn't perfect. The ejector rod on your revolver should not require that much effort. Does it operate freely with no ammo, with unfired ammo? If it only sticks with spent casings the chambers in the cylinder might be a little too tight. If you have to push fresh ammo into the chambers, they're too tight.

      You mean lead build up in and around the forcing cone? My single six leads up badly too. Try to shoot 22lr with larger diameter bullets. Most CCI and federal and other bulk stuff is around .2235 and .2225, which will cause leading in a revolver, since chambers are oversize and the flame and gas just melts lead from around the smaller diameter bullet and deposits it in the forcing cone.
      I exclusively use 22lr ammo made by RWS (German manufacturer). They have a slightly flat nose, can be very greasy but bullet size is consistent at .224 and this will avoid leading.
      Pretty much all Gecko and Norma brand 22lr is made by RWS. Also BBM brand ammo is repacked RWS too.

      A common problem with .22 revolvers. The leading can removed with soaking in solvent and some effort. It's easier to prevent by cleaning often and not waiting too long after shooting. The gap on my stainless steel Single-Six is very narrow, letting it get overly dirty isn't a good idea. I shoot a lot of bulk ammo.

Don't forget, revolvers have a cylinder gap, so shes really super nasty dirty when your done. Also had pieces of unburnt powder/bullet lube wax/Lead hitting my arms and face. Bouncing back at me from the forcing cone area! Do not shoot this leaning against/ standing right next to a pole/ shooting range wall or support !.you will be hit by flying derbies! Again, due to dirty 22lr ..Most autos in 22lr are a lot faster and less labor intensive to clean up. And this is comming from a heavy revolver guy!.

    The three points of locking the cylinder beats the S&W 617 to me.

      billt460$665 that's more reasonable, this is a fun shooting range gun, a bit too heavy and big for a conceal carry firearm, as far using it as a defense firearm many say differently but I think stopping power of a .22 lr is just fine because I'll take grouping accuracy over caliber size any day. but yes I actually asked my son about it this gun because I like it and he found one in a place called gun broker or something like that for around $600 new, he said this place has every gun imaginable it's like eBay for guns they have minimums but are well below msrp, getting the Rex Zero 1 9mm this week but I'm getting one of these after Xmas, let me know how it shots even though I know it's pretty much Dead Eye Accurate because of the weight and barrel length, it's a Dirty Harry .44 Magnum without the recoil, looks sweet

      The precision machining is more complicated on 10 round .22lr revolvers than on six round revolvers in larger calibers. This' why you see few .22 double action revolvers offered, compared to the larger calibers.

    Too heavy for a .22, I'm not manly enough to heft it.

    Why spend so much video time on shooting but show no after the fact targets?! You’re as bad as Hickock 45.

    hmm, I could spend $700 for a Ruger (of questionable quality), or I could spend less than $200 on a Heritage Arms (6 rounds only, but almost 1/4th the price). Good luck with that Ruger! lmao

      My Heritage has 9 rounds! Less than 200.00. But I do have the GP100 in 357mag! Both are awesome guns...
