It worked really well for me. I wasn't sure when it came time to load the presets as there was already a folder by the same name. I deleted the folder that was there and pasted my folder in so there wouldn't be a duplicate. Worked great. It found my photos on the external hard drive. No finding missing files necessary. Thank you Julianne!
Thanks for the video :) it is absolutely remarkable that it is this complex to move from one computer to another. I can migrate my whole phone ecosystem with all its apps and user settings using one log-in and 15min wait. but lightroom needs me to manually copy paste 10 different impossible to guess folders and files between two computers.
Thanks for sharing Julieanne, just bought a new MAC Mini, I thought it would be easier tbh, so glad I watched this first! I had the pleasure to meet you at The Photography Show in Birmngham, England recently (we were introduced by my mate Dave Clayton) it was great to get to chat with you. Keep up the good work! 😎
Right at the end you say just copy them over but I feel like you’ve missed a step for the not so computer literate people ! Do you mean just import as you would when uploading from your memory card ? I copied my stuff onto an external hard drive but then putting them into my new Mac I have the (!) on every photo so I’m kind of stuck on what to do
Great video, I am struggling with keeping my old Preset Folders in my new computer. I can get all the presets in there, but they aren't staying in the folders that I have on my old computer. Any thoughts?
Thank you so much for this video! It worked for me, i simply moved the catalog over w/out the edits and i was confused on how to properly move to my new device. Do you know how to also move the developer edits as well? i believe mines were lost in transfer only on 4 folders strangely, i can't even find them on the source computer :(
Thanks for this! If I have missing images or folders but they are all on external drives, can I export my catalogue and just find the missing folders later?
I purchased Lightroom 6 a few years ago and never had time to use it on my old PC. I now have a new PC and would like to use it on my new PC, but it won't let me install it using the DVD I purchased. Adobe tells me to be sure all Adobe programs are up to date (which they are). Any suggestions?
I use a Mac and recently opened Lightroom after some time and did this after I had moved my photo folders to a new NAS. What was interesting is that in the side bar I had the Navigator, Catalog and Collections showing but not the Folders option. I managed to relink my photos to the catalog by going into my collections and manually linking the photos via the collections list which took some time but at least I relinked the photos to the new NAS location. I would have preferred to do this by relinking via the folders section which probably would have done it mostly all at once but for the life of me I don't know how to bring that folder option back into the side bar. Would you know how this folder section is turned back on or why it may have disappeared? Update: This issue was solved when I installed Lightroom on the new Mac computer and transferred and opened the catalog as instructed in your video. The catalog opened on the new Mac and for some reason the Folder section was showing again. It's probably a bug but thankfully I was transferring my Lightroom to a new computer and will remove Lightroom from my old Mac and won't have to live with the missing folder section.
Thank you Julieanne for the informative video. I wish my case was this simple. So I am currently running LR 11 on my old iMac with iOS Catalina. Just my bad luck that my photos are on a Drobo external drive, which is not supported on my brand new Mac Studio. So my question is: would you suggest doing the migration connecting a new external drive to the old iMac and LR 11 and copying everything from my Drobo drive through my LR 11 current version, and then launching the new drive on my MacStudio with LR 14? I guess I'm asking for more help when the migration includes hard drive and computer migration with different versions of LR... Thank you!
Unfortunately the Development Presets are NOT transfered all this way. I have dozen of Preset Groups in my old Mac computer and only 15 preset groups are included in the "Setting" folder. I doesn't matter if I import the files in the settings folder or copy the whole folder over. Only 1/4 of the preset groups are accessible on the new computer. Especially the "Favorites" are NOT going to be transferred. This is really strange and must be a kind of bug. Any idea, how I can transfer ALL Development Presets?
I literally want to cry..... I just had all my files transferred 2 days ago by Best Buy, and the files were there, I just had no idea you were supposed to set all this stuff up first, so now I've done everything wrong. My pictures are viewable under "Pictures, but there's no folders or subfolders anymore". Then, I just tried reverting back to the last back up and that wiped out what little folders I had been able to bring back. I just want to scream and get my old LR back! Do you or anyone do private video chats to walk through this? It's a brand new Dell....sigh....
You shouldn't have to uninstall, but you would want to sign out of Creative Cloud (or under the Help menu in LrC) on your old computer if you're not going to use it anymore.
Julieanne, I appreciate your calm and professional manner. Everything went fine for me. Thanks and cheers from rural Germany to California.

Welcome to Adobe!
You are comparing apples with oranges.

Dear Julieanna, that was the perfect help. Thanks a lot
Extremely helpful and excellently presented, thank you!
Wonderful video. Walked through the process with you step by step. All happy on my new computer.
Thank you for this! This helped me transfer my catalog from my old PC to my new laptop!

Does this apply to normal users of the desktop version (Lightroom 6/non-cloud) ?

I found another folder called "importedSettings" which also needs to be transferred 😃
Hmm. didn't go as smoothly for me.... catalog lost the folder.
Thank you for this video, This helped me a lot.
Merci beaucoup! Very helpful and well done!
Thank you very much, it helped big time.

Does adobe make you uninstall the copy of lightroom classic on my current laptop before installing it on the new?
You shouldn't have to uninstall, but you would want to sign out of Creative Cloud (or under the Help menu in LrC) on your old computer if you're not going to use it anymore.
Thank you
Adobe, please find a way to make this process easier
ok
These are vague instructions and great thoughts, but they are very poorly explained. I watched this video with stops and start
The instructions are fine it's your intelligence level.
Great video and timely too as I am migrating to a new laptop.
