    I've been wondering about the difference between robin and wren calls for a while now and this video was perfect for helping me learn how to tell the difference between them

    Thank you Mr Baker. This video is just what I've been looking for! It is so much easier to identify a bird by its sound. For instant the robin's song has a unique ability to to sing 2 notes at the same time - a chord in effect which is so beautiful. The chaffinch seems to be the same except the last flourish at the end. You have helped the confusion in my head over the great tit variations! Thanks again for this unique video.

    I FINALLY FOUND THE "BRITNEY BIRD!" (Okay, a little explanation: when I was in my mid-20s, I was sick and bedridden in my grandparents' house in the country. There was a window that looked over the garden, mostly obscured by a massive holly bush and a hedge and some trees over the road. This meant that I couldn't see any of the birds, but I could hear them. I just had no idea what I was listening to. One bird was very loud and I dubbed it the Britney Bird, because to me, it sounded like the bird was just singing, "brit-NEE, brit-NEE!" Ever since then, I've wondered what it actually was, and thanks to your awesome video, I finally know that I was listening to a Song Thrush 🤩I don't know if you'll ever read this comment, since it's an older video, but I wanted to thank you for solving a mystery that's bugged me for the last ten years 🤣)

    Stumble across this presentation and thought I would give it ago. I wasn’t disappointed it was so educational and informative. I love near a wood and love photography but struggle to know what birds are around until I see them. This preset has given me the beginning to learn the basic of the birds locally to me. Thank you.

    A very original approach to bird song and calls, fascinating and the visuals brilliantly presented. Your voice is very quiet throughout, Maurice, but it makes a change from most folk who talk over the birdsong!! I'm interested in how many birds derive their names from their calls and songs. Yes, the section about the golden plovers, an unusual and little known call, was beautiful and unique.

    Wonderful video and excellent explanations...always found it frustrating that I’m not as successful at identifying birds by their songs and calls as I am by the sight of them or their movement. I think this will help me a great deal...thank you so much! I’ll be watching this a good few more times, for sure! PS I did note a couple of typos on the scientific names you may have missed.

    Maurice, thank you for your great preparation, it is much more informative than many other videos i have found in the net. But due to the dominance of low frequency elements in your voice between the high frequency sounds of birds, it was sometimes hard to understand your words on my behalf. Even so, i am very grateful

    Awesome video! So many useful facts and fantastic footage. I especially like Goldcrest close-up. Also, the last scene with Golden Plovers is impressive! I'm happy you uploaded a new video because I couldn't wait to it. At the moment, I'm learning to recognize birds calls and songs. It's not that easy but fascinating. Unfortunately, in Polish Chiff Chaff's name isn't onomatopeic at all :( (it's 'pierwiosnek'). Warm greetings!

    Maurice, beautiful footage again, and very interesting info! I love birds, although I'm not a "birder", and I can immensely enjoy a singing bird. Question: for example, at 4:40, how do you make such "inlays" or whatever you might call it, in your footage? And also just the wave forms in your footage?
    Thanx in advance,
    Wim

    • @MauriceBaker100
      @MauriceBaker100  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Win for your kind comments. I use Adobe Premiere Pro CC for all my video editing. To make the clip 4:24 to 4:46 , I first made a 1920 x 1080 pix still photo of the frame with 3 large transparent windows in Paint Shop Pro 7 and saved it as a Photoshop psd file to keep the transparency of the windows. For the sound editing I use Wave Pad Sound Editor which shows the wave form & can also show the Frequency Spectrogram in a second window, I then play and record the selected piece as a new clip with Movavi Screen Recorder 9. To assemble the clip in Premiere Pro I place the ‘psd’ window frame still on line V3, then place the screen grab spectrogram underneath this on line V2 and it will show through the transparent windows, it will require resizing and repositioning to match the window or windows. The screen grab also contains the audio, so it will be in sink with the spectrogram. The Frame clip can then be stretched out to the same length as the spectrogram. For the left hand window I added a video of a robin to track V1, it also required repositioning and resizing but also in effects it needed a Linear Wipe to remove part of the left hand side. Text was then added to track V4. I hope this was helpful, maybe I should try and do a How To video some time!

      Maurice isn’t showing or telling here, he is teaching…he’s not handing out fish, he’s teaching us how to fish!
      There are lots of videos on TH-cam you can fill your boots on listening to bird song, or better still go out and listen in the local environs…you’ll be better equipped to hear what you’re listening to after a Maurice video. I’m sure. Enjoy…🤗
