The irony of Loomis and Laurie being the main protagonists of the whole series is that they share little screentime together. I like how in this scene the two of them work together to bring Michael down. She shoots out his eyes and Loomis blows the fucker up.

There was originally supposed to be an alternate opening of *Halloween 4* with flashback scenes of the hospital where Michael fell down from being burnt and some of the hospital staff was desperately trying to put the fire out on Michael and Loomis was shouting at them to stop and let Michael burn, but they didn't listen and pretended not to hear him, and it would later be revealed that the people who put out Michael from being burned were members of the Cult of Thorn.

I feel like the body actors for Michael don't get enough credit. This is the scene that introduced me to Halloween and got me hooked to the franchise. The shot of Michael crashing through the door and swiftly turning his head to Loomis is the most terrifying shit, not to mention Michael blindly wailing his knife around the room. And of course the head tilt.
This sequel has TRULY aged well. In fact I spent most of my life believing 78 was my alltime favorite, but over the years, this one has really taken the crown for me. 78 will always be the official GOAT, but 81 is somethin extra special.
Out of the other like now 10 sequels, it's definitely the best one. And it fits so well w/ the aesthetics and atmosphere of 1978, so easily watched together. The night he came home truly.
The same thing can be said about Friday the 13th the final chapter. When it was actually called the final chapter... It's funny with Michael Myers though because the man literally got his eyeballs shot out of his head, and I guess when they brought him back l guess we were supposed to forget that...

I just feel that it was a slap in the face to the fans who were expecting a final showdown but all we got was bully band kids, some loser who accidentally killed a kid, and Laurie and her grand daughter. Michael Myers was an Extraordinary patient. There was a force inside him biding his time. He came accustomed to the inability and silence. In many ways he was the ideal patient he never talked he never cried he never moved. He just waited.💯 The staff was unprepared they didn't know what he was🎃🔪
This ending sequence is what made Michael Myers a legend. The dude just would not stop, his physical body had to be destroyed to stop him. This is also the most epic end to any horror movie icon, nothing will ever top him burning in a raging inferno yet he's still trying to get at his victim.
The boogeyman who is Myers, his supernatural durability heals him over the time of ten years. Physically medical science writes it off as a miracle. Loomis though throughout 1-4 has tried to tell authorities without them sending him to the 🥜 🏠 is that Michael is not a man. He is a vessel of pure evil and cannot be stopped by bullets or burns. He waits till the right time to strike again.

Season of The Witch was meant to start the series as an anthology of Halloween themed horror movies but was poorly received at the time for the massive shift that they went back to Michael Myers with The Return of Michael Myers. Also that mentality has essentially defined the franchise. They didn't like the horror anthology so they ignored 3, they didn't like the Thorn trilogy so H20 ignored them, Rob Zombie ignored everything to remake them, and now Halloween 2018 ignores everything past the original movie. So Halloween, a series about a masked killer has more time lines than a Marvel or DC comic book series where you can pick which is your Canon Halloween. Also the original movie is the only one that had any real passion to it, the rest were made because of studio mandates

One of my favorite Halloween moments. Dr. Loomis has Michael right where he wants. The “It’s time Michael” then kills himself and Michael to save others is really a badass Loomis moment.
Loomis didn’t die. In the thorn timeline he survived and had a scar and had to use a cane. In H20 it’s revealed that he died not too long before Michael comes back. Plus nurse Marion took care of him in his final years.
@@TheeproartistAB at the time Halloween 2 was the original end of the Loomis/Myers/Strode Storyline. It was originally supposed to be a neatly tied together movie, to end the series. Hence why Carpenter wanted the series to go into a anthology series, as he was sick and tired of writing about Myers, but that movie was poorly received, so more Myers movies were made, in Halloween 4, they were originally going to have an explanation as to why Loomis survived, but they couldn’t, because Universal had the rights to Halloween 2, and they really didn’t explain why he survived in H2O too.
The fog outside is so oppressively thick as to be a demonic presence of sorts. Laurie is put in the back of a truck alone, perhaps like Michael was in his asylum days, and the vehicle almost immediately enters the belly of a beast, vanishing as its lights cease blinking. The last shots of Laurie sitting in utter darkness convey this eternal threat well, as that mocking song kicks in, a voice inverted in this context and asking the supernatural to create a perfect nightmare. As some part of Michael still refuses to burn and isn't ash, as if his inner Hell is let loose, the film gives the perfect feeling that even now he might return one day, if he isn't perhaps appeased by Loomis' sacrifice and Laurie maybe becoming like him. Of course, Carpenter intended this to be Michael's definitive end, but this bogeyman had already survived so much, even still standing from two shots to the eyes and possibly into the brain, that the Shape may simply be down for a longer time, like a monster or spirit that can only be sealed in folklore. It's almost as if the flames acted as a Samhain bonfire to keep the evil at bay for another year, the rising sun signaled a temporary end to his active season, or his foreboding presence, akin to the ending of the first film, is stretching out again, this time as the fog.
It would have, and we would've had more movies like Halloween III, to explore what else can happen on Halloween. But OH NO, people didn't want that. In comes Halloween 4 where, oh, Michael and Loomis nearly burned to death. That's like saying the Titanic only sprung a small leak.
After Halloween II, Dr. Sam Loomis has somehow survive but he was severely burned, left to walk with a pronounced limp (possibly due to either the burns to his leg or the stab wound to his stomach) and he’s wearing gloves to hide the burn scars on his hands.
Everyone wants to talk about finally getting a Halloween film that has a definitive ending. THIS ending was PRETTY F'CKING DEFINITIVE, with the whole "explosion and being completely engulfed in flames" death of Myers. It was only the contrived sequels that retconned events so that Michael and Loomis both survived this. This was always meant to be the end of that story. Frankly...having seen ALL of the various followups and continuations to the original....THIS Halloween 2 is still the best Halloween 2.
H20 is also pretty definitive. ...If you ignore Resurrection which literally feels like it happened for the sake of happening. Maybe H20 could be a good watch if you're like "Yeah, I wanna see Michael and Laurie have one more round" But if were 100% up to me, I would want it to end either there or here in Halloween 2.
@@saltystick_99 Agreed. I think H20 would be superior to Halloween 2 if they went with the original plan of just following the first film instead of both of the first two. Just to explain Michael having no burns and not forcing the family connection. Also...I just wish they had a mask with the blacked out eyes. I think it being the "Scream era" they really wanted to sell it like it was a "normal human man" in there as opposed to a sort of "evil force" I think the perfect sequel would have been one in the 10-15 year range after the original with Curtis and Pleasance both back for one last story to finish Michael off together. Continue 10-15 years after the first film and have the two of them finish what they started in the first film.
forever etched in my memory was michael burning in his mask with mr sandman playing, this was the end of halloween for me, loomis gave his life and destroyed the evil force of michael, none of the other films and remakes were any good after this masterpiece!
Wasn’t it the same mask they used for Halloween 1? It just wasn’t exactly handled with the best care when it was given to one of the crew members, soemthin about smoking or whatever but it might’ve been why it looks a bit more yellow
@@skelebonez1349 It was in fact the original in the 1st, and unfortunately it wasn't given the best care after the first two years. The entire smoking story was that it was given to Debra Hill, and she stored it into a shoebox which she smoked and the smoke caused it to yellow. Smoke circulates up, as it doesn't go down into a shoebox. I think Nick Castle (the first actor for the Shape) was given the mask after filming and he placed it above his fireplace and the heat caused it to yellow.

Initially, neither he or Michael Myers survived. When this film was made and released, Michael Myers and Dr. Loomis were dead. John Carpenter planned on making more Halloween films but each with its own story. This is why Halloween 3 had a completely different story, but fans said "Where's Michael?" when they walked out of the theaters. In Halloween 4, they brought Michael Myers back to make fans happy. Dr. Loomis came back surviving the explosion. He especially had to come back after Jamie Lee Curtis refused to reprise her role as Laurie Strode.
He didn't. Only when you consider those later sequels does that question and the question of Michae's survival arise, along with many other questions such as how in 5 we see him maskless without any burns whatsoever ... oh and the fact that in 4, 5 and 6 he can friggin' SEE despite having been blinded by Laurie. This is why I don't take those films seriously at all. I pretend they never happened. I'm a H1 and H2 "only-est". My official story has always been that both Loomis and Michael died in that hospital in the early morning hours of November 1st 1978, and that was that. In my timeline there is no H20, and certainly no skipping over H2 for the recent 2018 film which in my opinion was a completely pointless moneygrab that started with an interesting concept behind it but was poorly executed. When I compare it to H2 there is absolutely no competition, if there is to be a one and only conclusive sequel to '78, H2 still stands as the strongest candidate. All just in my opinion, of course.
Luke Colin Tieppo, I couldn’t agree more with you. Halloween 2018 was an ok movie but completely comes NOWHERE near as good or better than Halloween II (‘81). If none of the sequels ever came out after the original Halloween, then obviously it’s clear that the 2018 follow-up is good.....but, as you also said, I also think the movie was poorly executed. It just didn’t resonate with me the same way the first two original Halloween movies did. Good concept nonetheless, but poor execution that falls flat in my opinion.

I'm so ready for this October for Halloween kills. one of my favorite Halloween movies ever since I was a kid happy 40th anniversary Halloween 2 1981. and the sandman song is chilling because Micheal is burning but for Laurie it's cheerful song for all the hell she has been through that whole night. Halloween 1 and 2 are perfect for just one night
Halloween 4 was originally going to open with a flashback sequence explaining how Loomis survived this but the director didn’t want that for some reason

I think this ought to be canon with the new Halloween movie. They can say that Michael Meyers suffered sever eye trauma to one eye, missed the other eye and suffered 3rd degree burns all over his body. Extreme, yet still survivable injuries. After taken to an ICU burn ward, he was sent to prison/institution where he remained since. And Dr. Loomis. (given that Donald Peasance has passed) can either not survived the fire, especially since he was at the source of the explosion, or he too suffered extreme burns, survived, then passed on later. It just makes sense.
I would've liked for this to be canon too, but Carpenter hated it for some reason, which is a real shame as I consider it a very close contender for best horror movie (just after Halloween). However with that said I think that the new one will still be great, maybe even better then this.
It isn’t the ending particularly that he hated. It was the sibling relationship introduxed in the movie that he regretted. He frequently referred to it as a “mistake”
Extreme, yet still survivable injuries? Lol, are you blind or something? Michael was literally burned to crisp, he was probably almost a freaking skeleton. Nobody can survive something like THAT. When you see him coming out of the fire, his body is all on fire and it's a big fire, that'd literally melt him. And he collapses and continues burning to ashes. There's no way they could've included this movie in 2018 without making Michael completely immortal. If he can survive getting burned like that, then he can pretty much survive anything. Decapitation or anything like that, it's not gonna put him down.
ThisIsM Which is why it makes no sense for the Thorn and H20 timelines to ignore this detail. It’s obvious the only reason those movies didn’t do that, despite Part 2 still happening in those two timelines, was to avoid idiotic accusations of ripping off Friday the 13th when Jason became a zombie.

I love how there's an unintentional reference/foreshadowing to a fellow Carpenter film in the last moments as the ambulance carries Laurie away into The Fog.
Plus it was November 1st. No longer Halloween. The boogeyman man sustained massive injuries that would kill a normal crazy, but defied medical science, he rises again to embark on his rampage again when the time is right.
You know they got those horror games like Clock Tower, Haunting Ground etc where the main antagonist is still trying to kill you, but you have the situation at hand and the setup at play to stop them... usually in sequence or so. It's funny how this scene mirrors those in a way that it makes me think they can do a true Halloween game by that merit.
I have watched this film around 7-8 times and this is the first time ever where I noticed Michael was still holding the scalpel in his hand after being engulfed in flames…It just shows how much he wanted to take Laurie’s life. Insane…
I believe the lighter Loomis uses to initiate the explosion is the same lighter the officer at the beginning of the film handed him after a few attempts to light Loomis’ cigarette. Fortunately, Loomis took the lighter and did not give it back. If I’m incorrect about this, please let me know.
The lighter could be seen as some sort of MacGuffin. It plays a huge significant role in the destruction of Myers, and Loomis himself. The lighter makes another appearance in the school scene, when Loomis lights the nurse’s cigarette. Funny enough, I don’t believe Loomis is seen smoking once, not in the first Halloween nor this one.

No in the docu the thorn was revealed till 5. They were gonna show a scene of loomis surviving the fire but thats about it.

@@shrek_yourself Carpenter literally said the series was never meant to use Michael beyond 2 movies, technically beyond the first. Season of The Witch was meant to start the series as an anthology of Halloween themed horror movies but was poorly received at the time for the massive shift that they went back to Michael Myers with The Return of Michael Myers.
Also that mentality has essentially defined the franchise. They didn't like the horror anthology so they ignored 3, they didn't like the Thorn trilogy so H20 ignored them, Rob Zombie ignored everything to remake them, and now Halloween 2018 ignores everything past the original movie. So Halloween, a series about a masked killer has more time lines than a Marvel or DC comic book series where you can pick which is your Canon Halloween.
Also the original movie is the only one that had any real passion to it, the rest were made because of studio mandates

If you accept the Thorn trilogy as canon (I do), it's after this Michael pretty much becomes a zombie version of his mental patient self.

One of my favorite Halloween moments. Dr. Loomis has Michael right where he wants. The “It’s time Michael” then kills himself and Michael to save others is really a badass Loomis moment.
Loomis didn’t die. In the thorn timeline he survived and had a scar and had to use a cane. In H20 it’s revealed that he died not too long before Michael comes back. Plus nurse Marion took care of him in his final years.
@@TheeproartistAB at the time Halloween 2 was the original end of the Loomis/Myers/Strode Storyline. It was originally supposed to be a neatly tied together movie, to end the series. Hence why Carpenter wanted the series to go into a anthology series, as he was sick and tired of writing about Myers, but that movie was poorly received, so more Myers movies were made, in Halloween 4, they were originally going to have an explanation as to why Loomis survived, but they couldn’t, because Universal had the rights to Halloween 2, and they really didn’t explain why he survived in H2O too.

The fog outside is so oppressively thick as to be a demonic presence of sorts. Laurie is put in the back of a truck alone, perhaps like Michael was in his asylum days, and the vehicle almost immediately enters the belly of a beast, vanishing as its lights cease blinking. The last shots of Laurie sitting in utter darkness convey this eternal threat well, as that mocking song kicks in, a voice inverted in this context and asking the supernatural to create a perfect nightmare. As some part of Michael still refuses to burn and isn't ash, as if his inner Hell is let loose, the film gives the perfect feeling that even now he might return one day, if he isn't perhaps appeased by Loomis' sacrifice and Laurie maybe becoming like him.
Of course, Carpenter intended this to be Michael's definitive end, but this bogeyman had already survived so much, even still standing from two shots to the eyes and possibly into the brain, that the Shape may simply be down for a longer time, like a monster or spirit that can only be sealed in folklore. It's almost as if the flames acted as a Samhain bonfire to keep the evil at bay for another year, the rising sun signaled a temporary end to his active season, or his foreboding presence, akin to the ending of the first film, is stretching out again, this time as the fog.

After Halloween II, Dr. Sam Loomis has somehow survive but he was severely burned, left to walk with a pronounced limp (possibly due to either the burns to his leg or the stab wound to his stomach) and he’s wearing gloves to hide the burn scars on his hands.

Everyone wants to talk about finally getting a Halloween film that has a definitive ending.
THIS ending was PRETTY F'CKING DEFINITIVE, with the whole "explosion and being completely engulfed in flames" death of Myers. It was only the contrived sequels that retconned events so that Michael and Loomis both survived this. This was always meant to be the end of that story.
Frankly...having seen ALL of the various followups and continuations to the original....THIS Halloween 2 is still the best Halloween 2.
H20 is also pretty definitive.
...If you ignore Resurrection which literally feels like it happened for the sake of happening.
Maybe H20 could be a good watch if you're like "Yeah, I wanna see Michael and Laurie have one more round"
But if were 100% up to me, I would want it to end either there or here in Halloween 2.

Also...I just wish they had a mask with the blacked out eyes. I think it being the "Scream era" they really wanted to sell it like it was a "normal human man" in there as opposed to a sort of "evil force"
I think the perfect sequel would have been one in the 10-15 year range after the original with Curtis and Pleasance both back for one last story to finish Michael off together. Continue 10-15 years after the first film and have the two of them finish what they started in the first film.

Wasn’t it the same mask they used for Halloween 1? It just wasn’t exactly handled with the best care when it was given to one of the crew members, soemthin about smoking or whatever but it might’ve been why it looks a bit more yellow
@@skelebonez1349 It was in fact the original in the 1st, and unfortunately it wasn't given the best care after the first two years. The entire smoking story was that it was given to Debra Hill, and she stored it into a shoebox which she smoked and the smoke caused it to yellow. Smoke circulates up, as it doesn't go down into a shoebox. I think Nick Castle (the first actor for the Shape) was given the mask after filming and he placed it above his fireplace and the heat caused it to yellow.

The one thing I never understood about this film is how did Loomis survive that explosion.
Because the fans wanted another Myers movie. There is no feasible way Loomis could have survived.

Initially, neither he or Michael Myers survived. When this film was made and released, Michael Myers and Dr. Loomis were dead. John Carpenter planned on making more Halloween films but each with its own story. This is why Halloween 3 had a completely different story, but fans said "Where's Michael?" when they walked out of the theaters. In Halloween 4, they brought Michael Myers back to make fans happy. Dr. Loomis came back surviving the explosion. He especially had to come back after Jamie Lee Curtis refused to reprise her role as Laurie Strode.
He didn't. Only when you consider those later sequels does that question and the question of Michae's survival arise, along with many other questions such as how in 5 we see him maskless without any burns whatsoever ... oh and the fact that in 4, 5 and 6 he can friggin' SEE despite having been blinded by Laurie. This is why I don't take those films seriously at all. I pretend they never happened. I'm a H1 and H2 "only-est". My official story has always been that both Loomis and Michael died in that hospital in the early morning hours of November 1st 1978, and that was that. In my timeline there is no H20, and certainly no skipping over H2 for the recent 2018 film which in my opinion was a completely pointless moneygrab that started with an interesting concept behind it but was poorly executed. When I compare it to H2 there is absolutely no competition, if there is to be a one and only conclusive sequel to '78, H2 still stands as the strongest candidate. All just in my opinion, of course.
Luke Colin Tieppo, I couldn’t agree more with you. Halloween 2018 was an ok movie but completely comes NOWHERE near as good or better than Halloween II (‘81). If none of the sequels ever came out after the original Halloween, then obviously it’s clear that the 2018 follow-up is good.....but, as you also said, I also think the movie was poorly executed. It just didn’t resonate with me the same way the first two original Halloween movies did. Good concept nonetheless, but poor execution that falls flat in my opinion.

I'm so ready for this October for Halloween kills. one of my favorite Halloween movies ever since I was a kid happy 40th anniversary Halloween 2 1981. and the sandman song is chilling because Micheal is burning but for Laurie it's cheerful song for all the hell she has been through that whole night. Halloween 1 and 2 are perfect for just one night

I think this ought to be canon with the new Halloween movie.
They can say that Michael Meyers suffered sever eye trauma to one eye, missed the other eye and suffered 3rd degree burns all over his body. Extreme, yet still survivable injuries. After taken to an ICU burn ward, he was sent to prison/institution where he remained since.
And Dr. Loomis. (given that Donald Peasance has passed) can either not survived the fire, especially since he was at the source of the explosion, or he too suffered extreme burns, survived, then passed on later.
It just makes sense.
I would've liked for this to be canon too, but Carpenter hated it for some reason, which is a real shame as I consider it a very close contender for best horror movie (just after Halloween). However with that said I think that the new one will still be great, maybe even better then this.
It isn’t the ending particularly that he hated. It was the sibling relationship introduxed in the movie that he regretted. He frequently referred to it as a “mistake”
All the movies are canon, but they just take place in different timelines.
Extreme, yet still survivable injuries? Lol, are you blind or something? Michael was literally burned to crisp, he was probably almost a freaking skeleton. Nobody can survive something like THAT. When you see him coming out of the fire, his body is all on fire and it's a big fire, that'd literally melt him. And he collapses and continues burning to ashes. There's no way they could've included this movie in 2018 without making Michael completely immortal. If he can survive getting burned like that, then he can pretty much survive anything. Decapitation or anything like that, it's not gonna put him down.
ThisIsM Which is why it makes no sense for the Thorn and H20 timelines to ignore this detail. It’s obvious the only reason those movies didn’t do that, despite Part 2 still happening in those two timelines, was to avoid idiotic accusations of ripping off Friday the 13th when Jason became a zombie.

You know they got those horror games like Clock Tower, Haunting Ground etc where the main antagonist is still trying to kill you, but you have the situation at hand and the setup at play to stop them... usually in sequence or so.
It's funny how this scene mirrors those in a way that it makes me think they can do a true Halloween game by that merit.
I have watched this film around 7-8 times and this is the first time ever where I noticed Michael was still holding the scalpel in his hand after being engulfed in flames…It just shows how much he wanted to take Laurie’s life. Insane…
I believe the lighter Loomis uses to initiate the explosion is the same lighter the officer at the beginning of the film handed him after a few attempts to light Loomis’ cigarette. Fortunately, Loomis took the lighter and did not give it back. If I’m incorrect about this, please let me know.
The lighter could be seen as some sort of MacGuffin. It plays a huge significant role in the destruction of Myers, and Loomis himself. The lighter makes another appearance in the school scene, when Loomis lights the nurse’s cigarette. Funny enough, I don’t believe Loomis is seen smoking once, not in the first Halloween nor this one.
