What will South Africa's government look like after ANC thumping? | DW News

- South Africans are waiting to see what their next government will look like, following last week's elections. But one thing is certain, the ruling African National Congress has lost its majority. For the first time since the end of apartheid, the party will need to make a deal with the opposition to form a coalition government.
The result was a major blow for the ANC. Since 1994 it secured more than 60 percent of the vote in every election except one. That's until this year when it could only gain 40 percent.
And it appears the public disatisfaction was not just with the ANC but with the political process as a whole.
Voter turnout has been on a gradual decline in recent years but this year saw the lowest ever in South Africa’s 30-year democratic history. But President Cyril Ramaphosa insists there's much to celebrate.

ZA: Nationalize the mining sector and central bank, what could go wrong?
Eskom: Hold my beer...
Really!
Do I need to list to you the number of successful national PARASTATALS from the US (Nasa, darpa) across the globe to Norway, China or UK (nhs, bt, bg, etc etc) --- there is NO ONE single country that is purely capitalist and at the same time a full member of the global market, NONE!
The trick is in political based NOMENCLATURE and corporate media narrative spinning or disinformation----with the advent of social media, everything is about to be re-translated in definition and discoursed, nothing will be SACROSANCT OR DOGMA.. ..
Eskom has been nationalised for 100 years already what are you on about 😂
ANC should just step aside
This is what happens when you don't do the work citizens elected you to do. Always work for the citizenry, not fill your pockets.
THIS MAN NEEGS TO YALK THIS TRIPE TO THE MLIINS OF HOMELESS,JOBLESS AND HUNGRY OF THIS COUNTRY.!!!😮😮😮
Kimberly is confused. Typical ama2000😂😂😂😂
Hei, Variety in a time like this.
Wonderful that people finally realized the ANC never fulfill their promises
Who wins please
Took them three decades but better late than never.
Unfortunately, the MK party is the same thing as the EFF party... their leaders are all people who fought inside the ANC and left to start their own thing. (Malema & Zuma)
The only place that works in SA is Cape Town, run by the DA. The others have never done nothing for South Africans, they make all sorts of promises but never follow through.
The low voting is due to apathy and people feeling there is no one worthy to vote for. Or ANC voters abstaining to show their unhappiness.
Julias Malema said 5 years ago, they will build a school. He also said that if come the next election (this past one 2024), if the EFF have not built that school, people should not vote for them. The school Malema refers to, have not been built, no ground have been broken, no agreements have been reached. In all that time, the EFF failed to build one single school.
And what has the DA done except for almost bankrupting Tshwane metropolitan municipality and causing inequality in Cape Town between colored and white community...
With what money when the money is with the governing party? Haii don't base your arguments on such things coz the Eff would've built the schools of they had the money and power
Thats what happened with corrupt politicians in power
SA still still in an economic mindset going back 60 plus years
Expropriation of land.... disastrous policy

Disastrous for who? 🤔

Nothing about the EFF is "stringent".
which parties did? ...and how far has it taken SA. U mean where we are is what u all wanted because it works for settler-group.
@@gaopalelwem Go and watch Helen Zille's pre-election Newzroom Africa interview. Prepare to be disappointed in your prejudices. That's why settlers are so successful. We have effective institutions.
@@dannyarcher6370 U r right when u say thats why settlers are successful... ofcourse everything was for settlers to be successful hence u like ANC and DA that keeps the status quo for settlers and their home government's benefit. Hence we are doing the change...and seemingly it hurts u and settlers. Unfortunately change is inevitable.
We do not want a majority or a coalition, we want them to govern together the same as we live together
The EFF is focusing on land to their detriment. Most Saffas don't want land, they want employment, basic services such as water and sanitation and an end to the disatrous crime rates. Land ownership alone does not provide these basic necessities.
I want land, can't even work in RSA
We want our land
The discussion needs to shift to “property” not “land”.
68% of South Africans are urban. The focus should be on cities where most South Africans live.
Sometimes, it's hard to fight for a slave. Not having land has made you poor. You will continue to work for your masters like slaves. Get Malema in power to get the land back. They've already benefited from the land, so it's fair the land is taking from them.
Should that land be given to the Zulu colonisers that came from central Africa and killed the natives and whites of south Africa? Or should it go to the natives that deserve it and the whites that beat the zulus in war and purchased land of the zulus and natives. Not to mention, work is more important, but are we just going to give land to anyone, or to people who knows how to farm that land.
What about land purchased from the bank, will that just be given away?
Zimbabwe with a coast.... Failed state....
@dwnews The South African central bank (South African Reserve Bank) is already owned by the SA government. EFF wants SA commercial banks to be nationalized without compensation.
Most southern African countries are notoriously bad at democracy with growth.

Kimberley got a good brain on her.
How about the eletricity situation, you can't develop and exploit or even afford land, or solve the youth unemployment problem without power..
Once we stop sending top grade coal to Germany and other countries, we will fix that in no time.
I agree, but the electricity situation has improved a lot due to increased repairs, the unprecedented rise in solar power in homes, and new management at Eskom. If load shedding returns, it won't exceed stage 2.
Granted, universal electricity access must improve to create an inclusive economy.
They are kicking out the west and the west's exploitation. Their will be huge BRICS investment. Can't be worse unless the west arms a bunch of rebels to overthrow governments again.
We need to stop sending our coal to Germany, full stop.
Why is SA still sending coal to EU countries like Germany?
Kimberly for President!
I’m very surprised that neither of them mentioned the high crime rate in SA!
Global media just don't get it... South Africa is done. The damage the ANC have unleashed can never be reversed. We went from a socio-economic crisis to a political crisis. Nobody has a solution.
It's done, how does a new government even start to reverse 30 years of damage? No way.
Not even Hamas could rescue the ANC..... no 600 trucks of food from the ANC for SA citizens 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

ABSOLUTELY, NEVER!

Seems like the brics thing isn't working out?
Yes dan, that is why countries are rushing to join BRICS, because it is not working. BRICS decision to dump the weaponised US dollar and selling off $billions in US debt hasn't attracted your attention, yet?
What do you think attracted all these countries wanting to join and dump the weaponised US dollar as well?

If only South Africans voted with their heads and not their hearts, we could see some real change. There is no point voting for a party who you identify with or whose manifesto you align with if statistically they stand no chance of ever ruling, or having any politicial clout in your lifetime. If you truly want change, vote for the strongest opposition.
SouthAfrica will be ok!
That's been the response for how long? Look at it. An economist said that if EVERYTHING went right from today, it would take 15 years for the economy to get back to 24 hours ago. Ie, SA will fall further. The question is by how much.
Lots of trolls in these comments. We on the outside cry for south Africa. Their distaste for Pan-Africanism may backfire on them..

Amen Brother! AMEN🎉
The DA wasn't a successor of the national party. Stop spreading lies.
Wht makes you think the DA is the successor party?
The largest problem in South Africa is mentality.
90% of the populace want Mahala Everything.
Free homes, Free food, Free money, Free education, free free free.
No... Freedom does NOT mean you get stuff for Free.
Sorry, but we all need to work for our stuff.
So, vote for a party that will create JOBS.
If you continue voting for people who will NOT create employment, then the problem is the result of your own doing.
You don't need a Free degree in rocket science to work this out. It's common logic, ffs.
