    Just to note, if countries didn't do well enough in the 90's points-wive, five countries had to leave the show for next year to let other poor-placing countries take part the year before it. Also, in 1996 a qualifying round was held to determine which 23 out of 30 countries would be allowed to take part. Russia in 1996 were of the whom had to stay out that year due to poor placement in the pre-qualifying round.

      Honestly, I wouldn't hold it against him if he didn't loudly proclaim his support of Ukraine. It is dangerous to speak against Putin in Russia. Even if they loudly speak for Putin, people might still not support him in their hearts. It's how it works - it was how it worked during Soviet era.

      @@daemonionx what???? Rusnya????? Do you know that not all people in Russia support Putin and his politics? No, you have no idea because you don’t live there. And do you how it is hard to say anything bad about his politics? Or what’s going on after people who participate in rallies? Go to hell with your anti-Russian statements, idiot. I understand the mood in the world, and yes, my close relatives are from Ukraine, but I was born in Russia. And I don’t want to apologise for that all the time. And it’s really grossly to read all these things. Politics in Russia and people from Russia are not the same thing. Alexey Navalniy is a famous Russian oppositionist and he is in prison now. Boris Nemtsov is another famous Russian oppositionist and he was killed for his position against Putin. Many people are in prison for participating in rallies. We have a dictatorship in our country. Damn, even veterans of the Second World War can be taken away by the police for participating in rallies. VETERANS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR. So don't you dare say things like that.

    Music-wise, they are an amazing country. They did often well in the 00's especially because of political voting (Russians living abroad) but also because they had great songs. I like Dima Bilan and Sergey Lazarev's songs, and I also like their 'piece ballads' song-wise however it's also a bit hypocrite of you ask me..Luckily a lot of these artists are also pro-ukraine and against the war (not all.. Polina gagarina?), like Manizha for example, Little Big and also the singer from 1997.

      I mean imo I think Russia was testing ukraine by doing these shenanigans like: Ukriane won with a song with allusions to the 2014 invasion, and russia internally selected someone in a weelchair with a very sweet song and then had her try to enter ukraine via Crimea. I'm sorry but to me this sounds like they were planning to do this on purpose. no evidence ofc don't go screaming at me in the replies, I just think it is a bit funny how trolly they were

  • @lemasander4932
    @lemasander4932 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    Despite the horrible political situation with their invasion in Ukraine, if I only look on the entries in terms to the music/melody/voices, they had some pretty good and catchy songs. But although I’m sorry for the artists, it was the right decision to ban the country. The ESC was created to promote peace and unity, to bring together countries. But you couldn’t hold a peaceful contest if a country takes part, whose government acts so violently towards another country.
