    but... at 3:30.. your feet are off the ground and you have no safety harness on... you're not tethered to the tree AT ALL... I've been wondering how to follow that rule w/ ladder stands.. guess i have to keep looking.

      You would have to set the stand then immediately install a safety harness lifeline ( m.basspro.com/Hunter-Safety-System-Treestand-Lifeline/product/15030408371920/ ) allowing you to descend safely. Even when roofers start a job someone has to go up unattached to set the first anchor. hope it helps some, also you should always take help with you to set up your stands.

      I put up my 20 foot two man ladder stands the exact same way! lol
      You don’t need a harness, you just need a big set of balls! Haha..
      The only difference is that, before I go up I tie a “safety rope” to one side of the V in the part of the stand that wedges in the tree and as soon as I get to the top I pull that rope around the back of the tree and tie it off. Then I put my ratchet strap around. It’s comforting feeling the have that rope around the tree in case the ratchet strap ever broke. But seriously, if you drive the feet of the ladder into the ground, have the seat of the ladder leaned back into the tree at a slight angle and have your cross bar from your ladder snugged down tight.
      You should have no issues climbing up the ladder and falling. Don’t lean back obviously! Lean in to the ladder, keep three pints of contact and when u get to the top don’t dick around, get that rope around the tree, tie it in a few knots and put your ratchet strap on and there’s no problem. This guy did it perfect!

    Thanks this was helpful. I used my climbing stand on the backside of the tree to check for level and secure the top straps. Then proceeded with the rest.

    X Stands makes a winch you strap to the tree to hoist a ladder stand up. I've also used an ATV winch. An extension ladder really makes it easy to run the cross straps and to hook up the ratchet strap.
    All of these are better and way safer than doing it the way this guy did.

    Nicely done! I'm quite impressed with how quickly and quietly you were able to get a three man job done in under ten minutes... I have five lock on and two single ladder stands and one two man ladder stand. I think that I may buy one more two man stand instead of a lock on or single ladder just for the extra room. Walmart has a deal going right now for $88.00 Two man ladder stand. The price of a cheap lock on isn't much cheaper and then you still have to purchase screw in steps or my personal preference climbing sticks which can be more than the complete ladder stand which is (a) Much safer than a lock on or climbing stand) (b) plenty of room (C) more affordable (d) I can bring one of my kids with me (e) drag my wife out ( I can picture it a she has her heels digging in the dirt lol).(e) need I go on? Im ordering up one right now

    I use ropes attached to the stand halfway up and at the top. Let them hang down till stand is raised. I use a winch and strap system attached to tree to pull up in place. Then I take the dangling ropes and pull tight attaching to tree or trees nearby to secure stand in place. Once you attach the stand at the top with rachet straps then you can release the ropes. Keeps stand secure and then you can place your safety rope. Extension ladder works if you have two people, but find this is method is safe. Basically you are securing the stand to tree with temporary ropes. Only time I do not use a safety harness. Of course try this at your own risk. Safety first.

    I DID IT YOUR WAY ONCE, WHEN I GOT TO THE TOP THE LADDER BENT BACKWARDS AND I FELL TO THE GROUND. CONSIDER TYING TWO ROPES TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PLATFORM, WRAP IT AROUND THE TREE 3 OR 4 TIMES AND TIE TO LADDER SOMEWHERE ABOVE THE BAR THAT ATTACHED THE LADDER TO THE TREE.

  • @bobeddingfield6894
    @bobeddingfield6894 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    so much easier to just put stakes angled over the bottom of ladder to keep it from sliding and then walk behind tree with straps. the walk up works for light stands but pushing up an awkward 85-100lb double man that is well made needs a better system than just brute strength. if it is really heavy i will just take a step stool and drill a pulley into each side of the tree and run the straps through them before walking behind the tree with the straps. 1 minute, a drill, and running straps through the pulley gets them in the air from 7' to 9' with a step ladder.

    How much does the stand say man me and my uncle tried to set up a two man stand today it weighs 95 pounds and it goes 17.5 feet in the air and he benches over 450 raw and me I’m 17 and bench 190 and we still couldn’t get it up to save our lives but in two day I’m gonna go and try to use a ladder and ratchet straps and get another person and maybe we can get it

      I had put my ladderstand all by myself and never had a safety harness on as long you know what you are doing and when start to climb and l lean forward on the ladderstand so that away the teeth behind the seat is tight against the tree and take your time going up the ladderstand and I never got hurt or no injuries and I been doing that for a long time am always careful as well you got to know what you're doing that's all I got to say.

    The only thing missing is the part where you hear "HELP, I've fallen and I CAN'T GET UP" because 1) He doesn't have any any human parts that break or 2) He doesn't have any friends. In any event, this is a very unsafe thing to do, and even though he didn't get hurt, someone else that see's this and tries it may not be so lucky.

  • @billsmith147
    @billsmith147 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Just because you can, does not mean that you should. I will just the use the word foolish to describe this behavior although much stronger words can be used. The individual has no point of contact with the tree to stop a fall. No harness connecting him to tree. Falling from 17-20 feet with a stand falling on you will definitely kill you. Why would anybody do this by himself? Don't you have any friends or fellow hunters?? Dead or cripple is the only way this is going to end if you keep doing this!!

      Buck Wheat Can use a rope or climbing belt around tree and attached to yourself step up a rung and move belt up as u go. I hv also used climbing stix to go up and ratchet stand to tree. That shit he did is crazy and foolish. Esp with top heaviness of a double stand.

      If you tether to an unsecured stand when you fall the stand comes with you , I prefer free fall than landing on or the stand landing on me.

    • @bowdiersackett6433
      @bowdiersackett6433 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I basically did most of the set up like this except after the stand is up leaning against the tree I use an extension ladder to go up behind the tree and then secure the stand. That way I am not on an unsecured stand that could fall.
