I saw the Razor's Edge show in 1990. The next day I worked Sunday shift at my restaurant. My first table was Chris, dining by himself. I knew who he was right away as I was a drummer and had been following him since his joining ACDC. He was just as you see him here - very kind and he welcomed my recognizing him. Blown away by his kindness in signing an autograph, remembering my name and even drawing the ACDC logo. His drumming on Blinded By The Light (Manfred Mann) blew me away as a kid back in 1976.

AC/DC sounds like AC/DC only with Phil behind the kit.
Just like Angus using old model guitars for the proper sound; Phil does the same with his (old) drums.
      I've only seen Ac/DC live twice; '81 and 2010.
Both times with the Brian, Angus, Malcolm, Cliff, Phil lineup.
Both shows were note for note and tempo to the original album songs.
Not the 'fast play' that was common during Slade's run.

Although I will always prefer Phil Rudd and his minimalist, swinging groove, I really enjoy listening to AC/DC Live from 1992. Chris's drumming was SO fucking powerful and fast back then...I can't imagine keeping up a steady 4/4 beat at those tempos with no fill breaks for 5-10 minutes at a clip. His right arm must be made out of steel cables.
However, it's now 25 years later and he's almost 70. He no longer plays with the insane fury and speed that he had back on The Razor's Edge tour, and he still doesn't have the Phil Rudd groove down, so ultimately I find his playing disappointing this time out.
He's a great guy and I love that he stepped up to help the band out when Phil fucked up, but that inimitable groove is sorely missing.

    • @rockmusik1721
      @rockmusik1721 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It´s right with Phil´s groove, but he is not always a minimalist. Okay on Stiff upper lip he plays the first break in the eight´s song. But if you looked at Phil for example at Whole lotta Rosie and For those aboit to rock (specially live), you see, that he can play with much power, too and with much breaks (as you can also hear in the song "Black ice"). Phil smokes during Whole lotta Rosie but is a real hard rocking Rocker there.

I loved chris playing on Donington 91 video but couldn't believe how much he failed on his latest stint with acdc. I also know that he was told to slow down the tempo on his return I've seen interviews maybe the slower pace doesn't suit him. Any way sadly I think acdc are finished now. Without Malcolm brian and cliff and with a clown like axl rose singing.

No disregard to Phil. I saw AC/DC with both drummer's , Chris Slade is a much better artist than Phil Rudd. You can't compare the two. Phil is an original member. But to often he never cared about the brand he represents. In the book and hearts of many fans he blue it. Period. Chris is the man now.

I miss Brian today much as fans of the early 80's missed Bonn then but...
what's important to keep in mind is that both Bonn and Brian left for reasons in no way related to any ill will towards AC/DC.
For Bonn it was the love of the party, and for Brian it was an indirect result of the love of speed.
For Malcolm it was the cruelty that is life but I don't get upset... he accomplished and experienced more joy than most ever will.
However unfortunate as the conditions are - it is what it is.
We as fans have two choices, give up and move on - or embrace the future... never forget that the last tragedy was followed up with Back in Black, and that we can all agree is a wonderful thing.

Is it true you out down the drums for 2 or 3 years after your first stint with AC/DC? If it is, I like you all the more.

AC/DC use huge drum kits but use like 4-5 of the drums

AC/DC is Phil Rudd, Cliff Williams, Malcolm Young, Angus Young and Bon Scott/Brian Johnson. Anyone else is just a fill-in, an asterisk.

We can all agree Chris is good, Phil has set the pace years ago
Now this axle deal I do not care about it any way and I understand acdc had to fulfill contract obligations but really? They were plenty of low name singers out there that could have done a better job
