- It was a risk-off day across the Asian region, with the S&P/ASX200 finishing the session 0.09% lower at 7963.70.
US futures were under pressure into the ASX finish, as markets continue to digest results from Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) and Google parent Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) which disappointed. Visa also reported a revenue miss on a crunch in consumer spending.
Mining stocks were weaker once again on depressed commodity prices with iron ore continuing to slip. BHP (ASX: BHP) shares were down 0.31% and and Rio Tinto (ASX: RIO) was up 0.56% respectively. (remove) Energy stocks traded near a one-month low despite oil prices rising in the Asian session; Woodside's (ASX: WDS) stock was down 1.05% with investors still digesting its massive US takeover.
In corporate news, Flight Centre (ASX: FLT) shares dropped after tightening FY24 profit forecast range, ending down 4.74%. Shares of Telix Pharmaceuticals (ASX: TLX) fell 7.19% after raising $650 million dollars via convertible bonds due in 2029.
On the bright side, gold looked good and Pilbara Minerals (ASX: PLS) forecast higher production for FY25 while posting a 58% sequential jump in its June-quarter revenue.
The Aussie dollar came under pressure in the global risk-off environment; local data showed services sector saw weaker growth in July while manufacturing improved slightly but remained in contractionary territory.
The Bank of Canada is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points tonight; the US flash PMI is also due.
