Yes, Aldon Baker traveled to Florida to meet Carmichael and after a six-month trial took over his training for the 2000 outdoor Motocross season. Baker's success with Carmichael reshaped the landscape for riders and their physical fitness. McGraths BMX experience helped him revolutionize the way supercross was ridden, employing a technique he learned in BMX allowing him to stay a foot or two lower over jumps by coming in with more speed then soaking up the landing into his body similar to the way you ride BMX. McGrath, in now way, changed the sport by being physically in shape. In fact, McGrath was known to party his ass off when he wasn’t racing. This party behavior eventually created freestyle motocross
@@Steezy_Mx so who had the more impact on the sport and should be considered the goat? Seems like since supercross is the premiere form of the sport it should be Jeremy
@@venicebeachsportsnetwork6677 That’s tough to say. Jeremy is Legendary. There’s so much to say about the McGrath era. He made Supercross cool and what it is today. Ladies wanted to jump Jeremy Mcgraths bones and men wanted to spike their hair and frost their tips 😂 FMX is now an event hosted by Monster In between Supercross motos! Pastrana bridged that gap. Carmichael is just as legendary for how he changed the sport and I also have Stewart being just as Legendary for taking the sport to an even further level that Carmichael took it in terms of speed. They both elevated the sport in unfathomable ways. Had Stewart rode a 450 and not 250t his rookie 450 season, I think we’d be having a different conversation about Carmichael but that’s just my opinion. I can’t say for certain who is the greatest because they all are. I do know that one of them is reminded that he is the GOAT whenever he’s on air Vs the others who just know 🤷🏻♂️
I drove all over the United States to watch Ricky Carmichael race Moto-Cross , from his Pro rookie season to his 2007 MX des Nations , l just knew l was witnessing excellance/dominance that might not ever be seen again , l was mad at myself for not seeing Gretzky or Bo Jackson or Jordan in their prime so l was not missing out on RC .
Undeniably the U.S. GOAT, and arguably the world GOAT. The thing I remember about the Carmichael era was all of the talk that he can't do this or doesn't do that good, and that the next guy (whether it was Windham, Reed, or Stewart) was going to beat him because that guy was better at what Carmichael wasn't good at. Then, the race season would come, and every single time Carmichael would show up dominating, having fixed whatever it was that was considered his achilles heel. And, sometimes, he'd simply be willing to just grab a handful of throttle to get the job done. Truly an epic champion. Whether within the sport or compared to other sports, nobody dominated like RC.
It's extremely rare is sports to have the CLEAR top guy be loved by virtually every fan. It was insane, going to Millville a few years straight during Ricky's reign was just insane, each lap when he'd come through the sandwhoops the entire crowd would erupt for the entirety of the moto. Usually for at least every 2 or 3 cheers there's 1 boo for the top guy but not Ricky somehow.
