In US news, these incarcerated men and women are taking Ivy League classes in prison thanks to a program in Washington DC. As students wonder how to get into Harvard, how to get into Princeton, how to get into Standford, or how to get into college in general, these prison inmates are getting a valuable education themselves. This is not a traditional method of how to get into an ivy league school, but when faced with the question, 'is an ivy league education worth it,' these prisoners would certainly say so.

prison should and must be a reform center and offer more. This is really good and brings back hope. But this does not overlap the fact that US justice system is messed up.
Well said!
suresh kumar yup had a friend who got busted for possession of weed and mdma and after that he was never able to get a job or house again. Never heard from again because he started living on the street.
Completely agreed!
With an education you get reformed and gain self respect. When released theres a better chance of getting a job. Nice video
suresh kumar You know trump did pass a prison reform bill but y’all to goofy to know
This is what are tax dollars should go to....allowing incarcerated people to have a better future, to be happier and to contribute to the economy. An investment not only in their lives but in and for the country, for the world
Jace Joseph
Government: let’s just throw them on the street and let them have no jobs so they go commit more crimes yup this could never backfire in the future....
@@Kevvyn- sometimes people get desperate just to eat some food and they may see that they don't have a choice but to say rob someone or break into a store. I know someone who was desperate enough to break a store window just so he could get arrested so he could have a roof over his head. People everywhere are going through experiences that they don't want to go through and do desperate things.
Sly Platypus gonna be honest they fact that people are in jail for drug possession and dealing (for some drugs) is really stupid.
Ths might blow your mind but a good part of Europe already does this. Especially Scandinavia and its proven to be much better than the US system. This is just another example of how America has for so long put profits over people.
@@breachperplex8846 yup, and then having a record for possession of say Marijuana follows you around, even if you live in a state where it's legal.
If they had been able to get this type of education in their youth they most likely would never have gone to prison in the first place
I think it still depends on the individual. You can receive a gift, but it must be accepted and put to use through one's autonomy.
YES. Turn the prisons into universities. Turn prisoners into thinkers, activists, and politically active people. Spin straw into gold.
I would TOTALLY volunteer to teach in this kind of program. I love this...LOVE IT. So many people in there just never even had a proper shot.
Your sick
@@jakesterdough huh?
So in other words America is finally starting to do what most countries in Europe already do especially Scandinavia. As we say in Denmark/Norway, take away a man's freedom not his humanity.
No. America is not doing anything. State prisons are extremely localize. We don't have a nationwide policy on education in state prisons and they differ from state to state. Additionally programs like these typically aren't paid for by the state and depend on private donations. We have a long way to go to catch up to the civilized world when it comes to preparing inmates to be productive members of society.
Arie Fraiser but, if this is successful... it could effect change. Not everywhere all at once. But some states would pick it up sure.
Black Cat Infinite ya and guess what even without this we are still number 1
Time to get arrested so i can get my education.
Lol, ikr free ivy league education. But jk I would never do that for many other reasons
Rotflmao
Don’t need to do student loans anymore
You can educated any time.
@@isaact3794 Ivy league have similar extension and remote courses are inexpensive and everyone can take.
The real value of an Ivy League is from the network when you study on-campus.
I know I graduated from an Ivy League school.
Ngl im gunna cry, this is beautiful
This way inmates have a clue of what to do once they're released.
Excellent! educate a person and you educate generations to come. 😁
Absolutely a PERFECT idea!! I've said this for 3yrs that this is what should be done and that I would love to be apart of this as someone getting their PhD... Take down the military budget and start using it for programs like this! I would LOVE for my tax dollars to fund programs like this in order to clean up our communities and keep people safer... How can you fail with that??
So our budge should go towards felons and criminals?
Eli za so you’d rather them waste money on defense that we do not need versus rehabilitating those in our country?? FOR SURE
@@tyrasims2133 no give that money to homeless and people who deserve it not some ungrateful criminal thug
Eli za look at your profile pic. Ignorance is bliss sweetie.

To quote Seth Meyer “THIS IS THE KIND OF NEWS WE NEED RIGHT NOW!!”
I love that series, too. :)
Now, THIS is how you rehabilitate.
1:15 I have high hopes for Joel he stays late and asks more questions to the teacher , taking fully advantage of something that he never did have , better late than ever , watching him enjoying his classes and to see the glow in his eyes is captivating
Only in America must you go to jail to receive free college education
Now this is something I can get behind. This is how you put the "correction" in correctional facilities. By giving them a chance to correct the mistakes that led them to prison in the first place. Policies like this are what will make America truly great.
This is great!💖💖
Give people equal education and opportunity and they will thrive
This makes me so happy
Franklin Eloi yes. it makes me feel happy for those inmates, the contributors and the United States.
@@mrsaye499 I hope the program becomes national
Joel would make an excellent lawyer!
If these people had this type of education before they have these problems, they never would have end up in prison. We need to make sure that education is equal for everyone.
This is amazing everyone deserves a chance to learn with teachers who actually teach and not pass judgement
Great initiative!
All these prisoners are pretty chill. Now I’m curious what everyones in jail for :/
I used to perform music in jails. They kept the hard ones on one side and the good behavior, younger ones on another side. Only the good behavior guys got to come to the chat afterward. Prisoners are sorted pretty carefully for this kind of program.
@@DorothyPotterSnyder what chat are you speaking of?
I love that they are engaging in education about policy and things that affect their communities. I firmly believe that former inmates are the ones who MUST lead & drive real change across society to find the right balance between accountability & intervention/rehabilitation, prevention & reduction of recidivism.
This is what America needs right now!with all going on!!so happy and proud of You all!
AMAZING!!!
If I get rejected I am done
This is what rehabilitation looks like, sadly this gives them an opportunity that they didn’t have and which led them to a life of crime and ultimately led them to prison. Sadly the system is so corrupt that these men and women are given this opportunity after their freedom was taken.
So amazing, like I said this is real rehabilitation
Part of the prison system is dedicated to rehabilitation. This is good in my opinion. Education reduces ignorance, and that can help prevent future crime
Arjun Tandon the worst crime is that so many are wrongfully imprisoned. Who can we educate to erase that ignorance?🤔
I have always believed that studying is the best way to better my life. Recently, however, I had a setback that shook that belief. This video encouraged me a lot.I made up my mind to start over again
THANK YOU, PROGRESS!!!!!
Outstanding program. I strongly believe in Higher Education in the Prisons. Absolutely wonderful!
This is nice!
It gives me so much joy to watch this video , to see that the inmates were so focused and actually enjoy their classes while some students just take for granted , I hope they'll all reduce their sentences and become successful on their choice of career , that's how tax dollars should've been spent , on turning inmates into good law abiding citizens
Wow I love this!! ‼️💖
3:03 this man gets it. I wish our politicians could get it too.
Love ❤️ this!
Curious, no offer of mathematics, science (physics, biology, [not chemistry, of course]).
What about mathematics?
I was curious about that too, but also loved that the other sorts of humanizing things were offered.
Love to hear any clarifications that emerge, here. :-)
Maybe just another attempt to keep them voting Democrat.
@@bonojennett God forbid you realise that most professors in the sciences and PhD holders are also liberal lol. The more obvious explanation is that teaching courses in the scientific disciplines have a limited impact and is less useful for somebody who isn't getting a full education; it's also not going to be discussion-based. Classes in the humanities have far more relevance to these people than classes in the sciences. Learning about ethnic composition and race relations in the Balkans allows for people to expand their horizons, think constructively, develop arguments, etc. in a discussion-based setting that a lecture-based class like Calculus I won't offer. This is also ignoring that science classes like biology and physics often have lab-based components that wouldn't be as accessible in prison.
Kinda gives me goosebumps to see this.
Sad that you have to go to Prison to get a decent education if you come from a economically distressed black community.
Nice try but as long as your marked by the state (have a felony on your record) they wont listen to a word you say
A very positive story
YES.
THIS is redemption. This is reform. This is America
YESSSSSSSSSSSS. Nothing makes me more proud to be a Hoya. This this this. This this. This.
Nice. Education will free your mind.
that's how prisons should be
It's really a good thing happening among us
So after seeing this video, people (in Washington) should be thinking one thing. If these programs IN jail help decrease repeat offenders, then we should put even more into educational. This is even more important in predominantly black communities, since blacks are more likely to be incarcerated if they haven’t finished high school. Right?
Locking someone in a concert room doesn’t teach enough this is a good step in the right direction imagine inmates running a real business from behind bars and when released going into the company they are already a part of with supporter contacts with in the same company !
TFW the ad is for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
Congratulations to you all for getting an Ivy League education I am proud of you all earning that college degree is a great accomplishment keep up the good work!🤗🤗🤗
again, fixing a problem instead of preventing one. If education was more obtainable, maybe they would have been educated enough to not do what put them in there in the first place.
georgetown university is not ivy league... clickbait
Are you serious? Yes it is!
Jaren C ivy league is an athletic conference, not just all schools like that
ethan 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
@@ethan-tz3ow Georgetown isn't an Ivy League because it's a Jesuit University, yet it still ranks higher than most Ivy League universities.
University of Chicago is Ivy League education but not athletics. What’s it matter what school is giving it? If the course they are teaching is on par with Ivy League schools, it’s an Ivy League education
Good.....positive. Why I was so happy to see guccimane doing well.
I have no idea why this makes me cry but it does. Maybe because I’m such a big believer in second chances and know no one is born bad or good. Some people just do what they gotta do to get out . Seeing these people so focused and so determined makes me sad as I know maybe if xyz had not happened in their life they’d be xyz. I just thnk everyone part of this
Amen!!!!
Further proof that education (from K on up) is a good chunk of the answer regarding prison reform.
We've been defunding education and dumbing down the populace for decades.
So, what do I have to do so I can get a free Ivory league education for basically free ?
Go to jail!
How is Georgetown "Ivy League"?
Just fyi - Georgetown isn't an Ivy League school... It's a clickbait title
That is why education is important and we shouldn’t take it for granted
why are there 2 people who dislike this video? ridiculous
This is awesome! Although calling it an ivy league education is click-bate, not that Georgetown isn't an amazing school.
Shame they can't vote when they come out
They can still make a difference. It only takes a spark to start a 🔥.
Another example of you prisoners are treated better then honest law abiding citizens.
This is what prison should be! A place to heighten the people not oppress them and make them better members of society.
Georgetown is not Ivy League. There are 8 Ivies and Georgetown isnt one of them
Halloween Bloodfrost they were just using the Ivy League name for clout cause it’s prestigious
Thats irrelevant. These prisoners are going to leave thinking they got an Ivy League education. Misinformation does no good. By that logic my FiAT is really a Lamborghini
Halloween Bloodfrost yeah all I was saying is that’s why these reporters used that choice of words, not justifying that they should have
But did they receive their proof?
I am happy 4 them, only God knows what happened in there childhood. Glad they got a second change 4 free.Praises The Lord!
This is an amazing idea, I think people should be educated and given a chance, that, in my opinion, is the only way to reform. Awesome awesome awesome!!
You mean a Big East program.
This is how prison should have been all along, people.
How much they pay? I have no felonies or a record period and I pay a couple thousand a year.
Ivy League education
You just gotta remember that these people are in here for crimes.
is it free?
Georgetown isn't an Ivy lol
Oh, haha that is so funny. Like omg....smh
First thing that came to mind was exactly this, so confused. Georgetown?!
It's good that these prisoners are getting educated but it's not an ivy school education. Ivy league education is identical to non ivy. All the "ivy" means is a status symbol which will be cancelled out by the status that comes with a prison sentence. But if they are truly educated they'll be able to figure something out, so that's good.
Jesus I gotta go commit something wrong and get arrested so I can stop working and get a free education, why didnt I think of this sooner! Free food, free wifi, free cable, free education,I've been doing it all wrong.
Amanda H how little you value your freedom.🙁
Sorry, GOP....this is happening!
Hopefully the US splits in the next few years
why is he teaching them about Kosova lol!
Meanwhile students IN Ivy League school have $150k+ debt. Personally, my friend had to take out a $250k loan. Another friend if mine got into Columbia but had no money to attend it.
Can you be a felon and get the same education
Below 100 squad.
This is the way it should be everywhere. Instead of punishing them with long sentences and leaving them uneducated, it is better to educate them that way they have something to bring back to their communities instead of leaving them with nothing when they come out and having to fall back to square one.
Only in America you have to go to prison to take Ivy League courses lol
You know trump did pass a prison reform bill but y’all to goofy to know
The bill did not affect state prisons. It only covers federal prisoners, who make up less than 10 percent of America's prison population.
Also this program started in 2016, before Trump was president.
@@koi3554 lmao that when he becam president my guy and did sign bill for the state level
@@jred4511 He won the 2016 election, but wasn't sworn in until January 2017. Obama was still president when this program started. Do you think he won the election and became president the next day?
@@jred4511 Also it still doesn't affect state level, please do some research.
This is what Bernie was talking about. Why can't incarcerated individuals vote. Some people in jail are smarter than some people who are not.
Life begins at conception!
yASS!...
Lol let's be honest here prisoners are only motivated to study as it's an escape from dropping the soap in prison
Don't get me wrong I'd do the same
More African-American men in this program thought by only caucasian lecturing men.
More and more Russians doing the work that should have been done by Americans.
you dont have to pay prisoners
