(Ávila, 1548 / Madrid, 1611)
Animam meam dilectam tradidi in manus
iniquorum, et facta est mihi haereditas mea,
sicut leo in silva:
dedit contra me voces adversarius meus,
"Congregamini, et properate ad devorandum illum."
Posuerunt me in deserto solitudinis,
et luxit super me omnis terra:
Quia non est inventus qui me agnosceret,
et faceret bene.
Insurrexerunt in me viri absque misericordia,
et non pepercerunt animae meae.
Quia non est inventus qui me agnosceret,
et faceret bene.
Animam meam dilectam tradidi in manus iniquorum,
et facta est mihi haereditas mea,
sicut leo in silva:
dedit contra me voces adversarius meus,
"Congregamini, et properate ad devorandum illum."
Posuerunt me in deserto solitudinis,
et luxit super me omnis terra:
Quia non est inventus qui me agnosceret,

y no perdonaron mi vida.
porque no hubo quien me reconociera
y me hiciera el bien

Tenebrae Responsories
The life that I held dear I delivered into the
hands of the unrighteous, and my inheritance
has become for me like a lion in the forest.
My enemy spoke out against me,
"Come, gather together and hasten to
devour him."
They placed me in a wasteland of desolation,
and all the earth mourned for me.
For there was no one who would acknowledge
me or give me help.
Men rose up against me without mercy and
spared not my life.
For there was no one who would acknowledge
me or give me help.
The life that I held dear I delivered into the
hands of the unrighteous, and my inheritance
has become for me like a lion in the forest.
My enemy spoke out against me:
"Come, gather together and haste to
devour him."
They placed me in a wasteland of desolation
and all the earth mourned for me.
For there was no one who would acknowledge
me or give me help.

Thank you very much indeed for uploading this fine performance by a rarely heard composer - es verdad, la musica atigua me encanta mucho...
Thanks for this great upload I really love those old songs and appreciate the translation too !!
Amen!
This soulful organum music is one of the main reasons I love Medieval music
I agree this is beautiful music and I'm glad you like it. Organum is something a bit different though - two voices separated by a perfect fourth or fifth, singing the exact same melody at the same time. Also this music is not medieval but rather from the Renaissance, which began around 1420; de Victoria lived from 1548 to 1611.
How did I miss this motet? I thought I had heard all of Tomas Luis.
Git you got mad flow
MÜSICA CELESTIAL.
Beautiful motet by one of the greats. Some of the interpretation is up to the quality of the music, but in moments of directorial encouragement the lower parts sound somewhat too "loud and lusty", I feel, to the detriment of the sound and spirit of the music.
it's too bad that only few people are fond of this kind of music. nowadays we're full of pointless songs and "musicians".
thanosalimos thank goodness it’s sort of making a comeback in contemporary electronic avant-garde! Holly Herndon and others that understand the power of polyphonic voices!
@@rvufo giving her album "Proto" a shot here--thanks for the rec! Any other suggestions, maybe in the more ambient/new-age direction?
@@rummyraisin Helium Vola uses elements of medieval and rennaissance music and combines it with electronic instrumentation. Qntal also comes to mind, though I feel Helium Vola is a bit more complex in the writing of music.
