I don't know why, maybe it's because I rewatched Avatar the last airbender this week again, but I think this song would fit Azula perfectly. So I have never seen this channel before in my life, but when it recommended a video called 'Empire' I knew this was the Beth Crowley song, so naturally, I clicked. This was no disappointment.

I tried to build something I would have called a modern day "empire", a business and a mansion with my dog at my side... He'd have his own room... But that's gone... A "empire" is lonely.... Never got this "empire" never had the chance since he had died due to old age... He was my best friend, hero, someone who would listen when no one else would, and he was another reason to live for.... He made days better... He made me happy when I thought it was not possible... He made me smile when I thought it wasn't possible... I gave him everything and made sure he was fed before I even ate anything... Nearly failed one of my classes by not doing my homework and spending the time that would have been spent doing homework with him instead...

The young girl thought to herself as she pulled herself up onto the tower.
"Ah, young Princess. You have come as I asked." A man, with raven black hair and matching eyes turned to face her.
"I do not obey your requests." She spat, indigo eyes flashing with fury. Her hands were balled up to fists, and she was crouched in a fighting stance.
"Then why have you come?" The man asked, clasping his hands behind him.
"To know the truth." The girl said. "Why?"
"Princess." The man shook his head. "I cannot just tell you the answers. You must find them yourself."
"Tell me why they were killed." The girl growled.
"I cannot."
"I'll kill you then." The girl whispered, letting the fire inside her burn into fury.
"You will be missing lots of opportunities then." The man smiled, but it was not one of kindness. "Join me, Princess, and we shall lead the world to greatness."
"Your opinion of greatness is different from mine." She snarled.
"Tell me about your idea of greatness then." the man said calmly.
"Why would I? You would twist all the ideas." The girl laughed with a malicious amusement.
"Princess." The man was no long smiling. "Do not tell me you will not lead."
"Not with you." The girl declared. "Never with you."
"Do not tell me I killed them for nothing." The man's face was twisted with anger.
The young girl stood there, frozen with shock, as her sluggish mind pieced together the meaning of his words. "You killed them." She whispered. "Wh-why?! Why did you do it?"
"Because it was their destiny! Just like how your destiny will be to continue their lead with me by your side!" The man growled.
"I'll never lead with you!" The girl cried, rushing forwards to punch the man who she had trusted for so long. "NEVER!!!"
The man blocked her attack easily and threw the girl back so hard she landed on her back. "Don't you see, Princess?" He asked, standing over her. "It's all just a game. And you were born to be a major player." He held out his hand. "Let me guide you in this, and you'll reach greatness."
"Greatness and madness can share a face." The girl whispered. "No. I do not want your guidance."
"You have no choice." The man pushed her forwards with his foot, towards the edge of the tower. "Rebuild our empire."
"It's not your empire!" The girl spat. "I'll build myself an empire, and it's be just me!"
"You'll be lonely then." The man smirked. "People will love you if you join me. Come on!"
"I don't care if you fear or love me!" The girl said, determined.
"I'll push you off without hesitation." The man warned.
"You can throw me to the wolves, and I'll be alright." She told him.
"Very well. I'll rebuild this empire by myself." And with a single push, she was falling.
The girl watched as the man shrunk before her eye. The wind brushed by her, pushing her hair into her face. Her mouth opened in a silent scream, lost in the storm. The girl closed her eyes as the ground rushed onto her.
A pair of hands caught her. She opened her eyes and stared into a pair of black eyes. An involuntary shudder ran through her. Those eyes...
"It's alright, Princess." The young man set her down. "I'm here for you."
"Your father..." She whispered.
The young man froze. His black eyes, so much like his father's, narrowed. "I'm not my father."
"Did you know he was the one who killed them?" The girl trembled. "My parents?"
Horror showed clearly through his eyes. "He did?" He whispered, wrapping the girl into his arms. "I'm sorry."
"It wasn't your fault." The girl said, but she sobbed into his shoulder. "I trusted him..."
"As did I." The young man said. He cupped the girl's cheek in his hands. "Princess." She looked up. "I'm here for you."
A soft smile broke on her face. "I know."
"Together?" He asked, wiping tears off her face.
"Together."
I got really inspired by this song! I really had to write something. Maybe I'll turn this into a full on story! I'll have to sort out the plot.

Edit: just a clarification, the girl's name is not 'Princess', that's her title. Her parents were the rulers. (I'm also writing this to myself in case I forget and actually called her 'Princess' if I make this a novel)

I used to always try really hard to lift people up, but now I'm trying so damn hard to keep my head above the water and well whatever.
