Just wait for Poet and the Pendulum(live at Wembley) and The Greatest show on Earth(live from Tampere 2015) both are broken into 5 parts and are emotional rollercoasters that will blow your mind, great watching you again, great live stream, see you next time.
Yeah, they are the real deal.. As for Poet: make sure you do some digging on the background of that masterpiece.. If you know why and how it came to be, that song hits sooo much harder home..
I'm glad that you took another step today, assisting yet to another facet of the band. And the style approached perfectly fits the theme of the song, presented so poetically in the lyrics: the death of romance. Let me tell you a "secret": many Nightwish fans (including myself) have not always listened to metal. Nightwish, as well as other symphonic metal bands, are a "gateway" for us to this musical land. Come with us, and you will enjoy the harmonies of metal :)
I so agree with this so much. I enjoy a good hard metal tune (death and black metal, mostly) just as much as any genre out there. I wonder what she'll think of Shoemaker. Which version would you recommend as a first time listen, gabriel?
Nightwish as a "gateway drug".. That was new one for me.. 😆😅 I started out with Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, DIO, Manowar, Rage Against The Machine, Pantera and Machine Head . In that order 🙂 Those bands sealed me to Metal for life. I loved a lot of other bands as well. But those I mentioned have a high star in my world. Nightwish came up on my radar a few years later when they released the Gary Moore cover "Over the hills and far away" and "Nemo". And the rest is history.
@@mykindamakeup Regarding Shoemaker, the options are: the official lyrics video, the virtual concert from May 2021, and the 3 professionally recorded concerts from 2022, Pinkpop, Hellfest and Deichbrand. For me it is a difficult choice. I would probably recommend Deichbrand 2022, although the recording from the 2021 virtual concert is superb, even without an audience.
@@sulliken77 For me, that's exactly how it was :) I remember listening to some Scorpions ballads with pleasure in my youth, when I attended some party - but it wasn't the music I would have chosen then. My "opening" to the metal genre appeared much more recently, after I passed 40 - 45 years. I remember how much I liked the cover made by Prodigy after Enya (which I adored) and what an inner conflict I was living then because of that!.. Then I started listening to Nightwish, in which I found a certain energy that I started to resonate with, I think , after a certain level of maturity.
@Chris Phoenix What seems special to me in Nightwish's music is that no element (instrumental, vocal, orchestral) is in vain, all of them are subordinated to the narrative. It is a high level of composition. If you get used to it, you become much more selective.
Song is about the death of a Romance, not necessarily the actual death of a person. The lyrics to me are about exploring a toxic relationship, acknowledging your own role in creating it, recognizing it, and having the strength to leave it.
Exactly - if you listen closely it's really "O.D. of lies is killing me" as in an overdose, rather than "ode" as in poetry. Marko and Floor are playing the partners in the toxic relationship: Nightwish often include a bit of musical theatre in their arrangements like this (tone follows content too).
@@rosalieelliottofficial If you like exploring music from all over the world I highly recommend The Hu Band. They are from Mongolia. They combine traditional Mongolian instruments and folk music, and throat singing with metal. Start with the song Wolf Totem.

Love that 3 octave glissando that Floor does in tandem with Marko. The studio version, from the Tarja era, only has his 2 octave slide. Marko sings backing or co-lead on a lot of songs, and lead on a few, including The Islander and their cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. He was lead singer of a band called Tarot before joining Nightwish. Very good breakdown on the lyrics. Yes, the song is about a romance that has died, it's over, time to move on. Song # 11 in this set, GLS was # 13, Storytime #6. You don't need to follow Gabriel's list in order. We do recommend you use his list for links. It's ok to pause, you can go back a few seconds to make sure you don't miss anything before resuming. Recommend Song of Myself next. Gabriel does what he does in memory of Ann Waychoff, this was her favorite song.
Love the Floor-raid siren in this version! And Jukka bashing the cymbals like they owe him money! Marko's "Woof!" and then the pyros! Great video, great reaction! KUTGW!
The guitar solo by Emppu is the treat of this song. Some fans do know it as can be seen. Marco also shows his capacity to sing growly style and together with Floor to make that awesome summit. The drumming by Jukka is also so grand. Naturally Tuomas makes it all possible. Metal Mozart+Keats+Shakespeare = Tuomas equation is pretty valid.

1) I love how deep you go into this. Most reactors just watch the thing, say a few words, and that´s it. But you even go through lyrics and try to find the meaning, even though with Tuomas´ poetry it´s tough. 2) I learned from psychologist Jordan Peterson that one has to integrate their shadow, so they cannot be pushed around, and they can stand for themselves. That´s what happens in metal in my opinion. What I´ve seen here in comments are people who can bite, no doubt, but have consciously decided not to. And that´s what make them good, and that´s why the atmosphere in comments is so positive.
Oh snap! I love your comment! And how you just worded that. Yes! That makes a lot of sense. And thank you also for the kind words. I appreciate that a lot
Rosalie, I luv your reactions and analysis. Good to know that you're approaching Fangirl status towards Nightwish ... Shine on my dear ... Regards from a 73 year old Nightwish fanguy from The Netherlands ...
Another great job young lady. I can hardly wait for you to get around to Nightwish's epic piece, "The Greatest Show on Earth" from Tampere 2015. It's about twenty minutes long but literally flies by in what seems more like five minutes. And speaking of timing...well, we'll wait and let you see for yourself!!!
Powerful and heavy song and great analysis! I was never into metal but always checked out the lyrics, message or poetry as a story line before I actually checked out.... soon is time for the next piece of art - The Greatest Show On Earth
This is metal love song by Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) 💘 Nightwish is Finnish gift to metal music and Floor Jansen is "God's" gift to Nightwish. I cannot say enough about drumming, Jukka here oh man I love his drumming and his style 🥁💕
Don't worry, no one was saying please stop and interrupt the flow. Love this format so much more than constant breaking in. Great enthusiasm still, great vid. Thx Rosalie, me thinks you might be on to something here. 🥰
You'll always find poetic lyrics with Nightwish, a story, a fantastic composition, even when they're going into something like "Yous is an Empty Hope." It's always artistic. There's such a range in what they do, and it is very, very well thought out, with intricate changes and transitions. Part of the joy of Nightwish, beyond the joy and passion of all of them on stage, and the energy of the crowd, is every time you hear the same song again, you'll find new little details and things to appreciate. Floor's 3 octave glissando might be one of the most impressive things in this song, but you get Empuu able to show a little more of his flair on the guitar, Marco showing one side of his voice, Jukka going to town with the double kick. As you explore more Nightwish, one thing to maybe listen for, among so many, is Empuu's guitar solos. I point that out, because in a lot of metal, it's a real staple for the guitar solos to be really flashy, longer, with a lot of fast notes, "shredding" it. Empuu is really talented, and really understated. His style is more to give the song only what it needs. You'll see melodic solos, as in Ghost Love Score, where he picks up the melody of the vocals for a bit and echoes it. Sometimes he'll be the transition, and the last guitar note will lead directly into the vocal phrase. I think he carries a lot of emotion in the tones he plays, too, like in Nemo. There's a lot more you could focus on, I only raised Empuu here because here, you get to see him shred it a bit more than you might usually. 🙂 Anyway, great reaction!
I recommend for the next NW songs "Nightwish - Ever Dream (Wacken 2013)" (it is about a Woman calling out for the mystery Love of her life) or "Nightwish - Sahara (Live At Tampa) [HD]" (about a Queen escaping through Sahara from the the pharaoh's wrath) - Both really good songs especially showing Floors voice techniques..
Sahara, I believe, also references an ancient Arabic myth of the 1001 nights (Arabian Nights is the collective work, if I'm remembering correctly). The Pharoah thought that no woman was pure enough for him. The Visir's daughter eventually offered up herself. In order to keep the Pharoah from killing her in her sleep (he had a tendency to behead the former wives while they slept), she would tell him a bedtime story every night, but not tell him the ending until the next morning. Thus, the 1001 nights. I believe I have stated that correctly, please someone correct me if I'm wrong! I'm working off of memory, not checking Google at the moment. I love how Tuomas weaves in literature and myth into his works! It's one of my many favorite things about Nightwish!
The duet is amazing! You spotted the inflatable pink guitar! With two of the three Musketeers :) Jukka "the pirate", on drums. That glissando! with Marko. The synced fire... You can feel the fun they are having, it's infectious! Killing of the Romance, not the person.
Your facial expressions are priceless and telling it all. As stated in other reactions, you’re in for a treat for the big ones still have to be experienced 🙏
That look on your face when Marko digs in on his own for the first time - we like to keep all the newbies in the dark about Marko…. Just for the reaction!
and you don't see "devil and the deep dark ocean" (live at Buenos Aires) and Marko voice in the incredible "high hopes" :) ! Floor did also great songs at "beste zangers 2019" TV show. The most viewed (19M !): "Phantom of the opera" with Henk Poort (the dutch phantom during several years).
Very well made point about the stereotypes. I'm into all sorts of music too, but I initially steered myself well clear of any hip hop or rap, thinking it was all bling and guns xD Now I have several favourite artists in these genres. You just never know. Great reaction! Much love.
Thanks for the open mindedness to check these types of songs out. It is just all about the proper vibe for the story of the lyrics. This one is all about a bad relationship coming to the end of the line. Romanticide is all about the death or killing of romance. Time to move on and find a new love. Musical dynamics are one of the keys to great storytelling and emotional impact. There are many softer songs to come. Hang in there. Loved it Rosalie! 🙏🙏 Being into psychology as you are, I will be very interested in your reaction to one of Tuomas' artistic masterpieces, "Poet and The Pendulum". It is loosely inspire by the Edgar Allen Poe story "The Pit and The Pendulum". A psychological horror story. However, before you check it out you should learn a little bit about the backstory. It involves the firing of the 1st Nightwish vocalist Tarja. The original fans loved her for her unique operatic vocal style. The were very unhappy when she was fired and Tuomas was the target of their disappointment and scorn. This song was written in response to the mental anguish and depression that followed. When you are ready, be sure to do the Wembley 2015 version with lyrics. This way you will be able to follow the imagery and poetic metaphors used to convey the emotion and turmoil of the composition.
@@rosalieelliottofficial You're starting the journey with Nightwish, so don't be in a hurry, there's a lot of good stuff to listen to, it would be good to hear Tarja's (first singer) versions before going head and heart into "the poet and the pendulum", so I'll be here for you following until we get there, congratulations for the reactions!
@@rosalieelliottofficial I´ll agree that you should do at least one or two songs with Tarija before doing "Poet and the pendulum" even I also agree that especially from the psychological aspect this song is a "must do" for your channel. My Personal favourites of Tarija performances are "Phantom of the opera - live end of an era", "Sleeping sun - official video" and also to show that Tarija and Floor are still friends the performance of them two in 2013 where they perform Gary Moore´s "Over the Hills". There are two unofficial videos of that song on youtube. Not sure though which one has the better quality but here´s one of them th-cam.com/video/XGwmQk_bBNg/w-d-xo.html You may also notice that they had some issues with Floors mic in that session. They know each other a long while now and if my memory works correct Floor asked Tarija if it´s ok for her if she would join Nightwish. As Tarija and Floor are still friends (in the pandemic they also made some live videos together on Instagram) Toumas and Tarija from my understanding are not so much friends anymore. Hard to say what they exactly think about each other today as both try to not talk to much about it.
I have been to a lot of festivals and concerts from very different genres and i must say the metal community is by far the nicest and best. I have been to metal festivals with 10ths of thousands of people but have never even seen a fight. I can't say that about any of the other genres. The community is warm, friendly, respectful and including.
Great reaction. I can’t wait to see the next one. You are in for an adventure and I’ll be sure to be here watching it. Much love from the Nightwish army, danish division. 🤘
So fun to see/be with you on your journey into metal with Nightwish, thanks for sharing. And regarding Nightwish (Tuomas/keyboardist) songwriting, he is just a master of composition. Called metal Mozart ;) And as an other famous Nightwish reactor says "Nightwish doing Nightwish things..." Looking forward to next one already.
Great reaction again Rosalie, particularly your honest comments and insight so thank you for that. Quickly becoming one of our favorite reactors. So looking forward to the next one! You saying Floor is a 'Powerhouse' is a great way of recognizing all of her talent not only vocally but also her stage presence and crowd control and acting the part and looking the part and everything in between... in general it's how she "commands the stage" as others have said, and that's why she's -to me- the absolute best singer out there. Our very own Valkyrie Queen. Cheers!
Great reaction and "think tank moment" afterwards , so you can understand Tuomas's WONDERFUL LYRICS . Every song/melody, has a message behind it. Tuomas is not "only" our METAL MOZART... He's a Poet as well. And...just so you know...; Tuomas composes ALL THE INSTRUMENTS, in every song. And then he sends it to the very talented musicians and singers in London. So Tuomas KNOWS EVERY BACKGROUND NOTE, in everything you as the audience hear on stage. After sending these notes to London Symphony Orchestra, Tuomas travels there and listens to them play his music. And if there's a discrepancy in just "one note"; our Metal Mozart will hear it. 😘 He's so talented!; and of course they ALL ARE. ❤❤❤ You should try listening to "My Walden" next. Just to get Nightwish's AMAZING DIVERSITY. "This mission report was written by Sargeant Emma, Las Vegas Chapter of The Nightwish Army" 🥰🥰🥰 Ps.... I see many of my fellow army-buddies , suggesting "The Poet And The Pendulum" to you, but I think it better if you do a couple of more reactions, before getting into that song. The experience will be better for you, I believe. 😘 Just a thought/suggestion, sent with Looove ❤

Straight out of Jung's work
@@DarkpowderUK Yes, Peterson mentions Jung all the time.
Oh snap! I love your comment! And how you just worded that. Yes! That makes a lot of sense.
And thank you also for the kind words. I appreciate that a lot
holy crapppp!! that does wake you up!!!
No matter how intense dark or heavy, Nightwish’s songs are always so listenable. Dope reaction Rosalie 💥💥💥💥
Agreed!! Thank you, Gene 😊
I love Nightwish, Marko Hietala and his voice :D the best
Great reaction Rosalie..Get ready, you will be impressed so many more times. They are so awesome. Loving your reactions.
Awww she's getting it.
Great reaction! Love the post music breakdown. Enjoy your journey. The Rabbit holes goes deep. Cheers from the Nightwish UK Army.
Great to see you enjoy this type of music.
OD of lies: Over Doses of Lies
Powerful and heavy song and great analysis! I was never into metal but always checked out the lyrics, message or poetry as a story line before I actually checked out.... soon is time for the next piece of art - The Greatest Show On Earth
This is metal love song by Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) 💘 Nightwish is Finnish gift to metal music and Floor Jansen is "God's" gift to Nightwish. I cannot say enough about drumming, Jukka here oh man I love his drumming and his style 🥁💕
Sad that Jukka had to quit as drummer, because his insomnia was too bad.
@@thamor4746agreed😢 his buddy sure did step up though
Ok, you've just reacted nicely, their heaviest song, almost thrash metal. Everthing else is more melodic, poetic and symphonic. Greetings from Greece!
Well, no, I’d say ‘master passion greed” is the heaviest …
Nice to see you enjoying your journey! If it's not too distracting, all these videos have the option to turn on lyric cations.
Girl I don't know how you can set still during their music! But your expressions are priceless!
Anyway, great reaction!
With two of the three Musketeers :)
Jukka "the pirate", on drums.
That glissando! with Marko.
The synced fire...
You can feel the fun they are having, it's infectious!
Killing of the Romance, not the person.
Love your reactions! I’m like you; not a big metal fan, but amazed by this band. Much love from The Netherlands!🌷🌷🌷
Your facial expressions are priceless and telling it all. As stated in other reactions, you’re in for a treat for the big ones still have to be experienced 🙏
thank you :) enjoying this journey
Much love.
That's a fire one lol
Excited for this new experience of yours 😄
NW Army UK popping in for a little Romanticide :)
Tampere ! 😘
Hiya again Rosalie You picked perhaps one Nightwish's "harshest" songs! and i found your reaction to this curiously fun! Keep the reactions coming!!
Nightwish is a rare band that is amazing live. I would however recommend the music video for the song “noise” because it explains the song so well.
Being into psychology as you are, I will be very interested in your reaction to one of Tuomas' artistic masterpieces, "Poet and The Pendulum".
Thank you so much for that suggestion and the information. I’ll make sure to do that. Good to know. This is super helpful
Not sure though which one has the better quality but here´s one of them th-cam.com/video/XGwmQk_bBNg/w-d-xo.html
You may also notice that they had some issues with Floors mic in that session.
Another great reaction!
Light wouldn't exist without dark
🤓🇸🇪🇺🇦🕊
Great reaction fun to watch thanks, Ronnie James Dio used this 🤘 to s symbolise long live rock and roll.
Thanks
Great reaction. I can’t wait to see the next one. You are in for an adventure and I’ll be sure to be here watching it. Much love from the Nightwish army, danish division. 🤘
Good one.
you have a lot of songs to go. Do Floor Solo as well, please also do "Hows is your heart (accoustic)" or Shoemaker...
Great reaction, your face was an absolute picture - and much respect for your willingness to push through your negative preconceptions 👍🤘
thank you, Jim. Learning as I go :)
@@rosalieelliottofficial no one can ask more 👍
So fun to see/be with you on your journey into metal with Nightwish, thanks for sharing.
And regarding Nightwish (Tuomas/keyboardist) songwriting, he is just a master of composition. Called metal Mozart ;)
And as an other famous Nightwish reactor says "Nightwish doing Nightwish things..."
Looking forward to next one already.
Cheers!
thank you very much!! Agreed. It’s the whole package
He's so talented!; and of course they ALL ARE. ❤❤❤
You should try listening to "My Walden" next. Just to get Nightwish's AMAZING DIVERSITY.

🥰🥰🥰
Ps.... I see many of my fellow army-buddies , suggesting "The Poet And The Pendulum" to you, but I think it better if you do a couple of more reactions, before getting into that song. The experience will be better for you, I believe. 😘
Just a thought/suggestion, sent with Looove ❤
Hi, beautiful reaction, I'm glad that you are convinced of symphonic metal, which does not mean that Floor can't scream, listen to the band ReVamp, which she founded after the break-up of After Forever, best regards
Love to hear where the RJD sign came from. I've been a metalhead for over 40 years, Today i learned something new. Thanks to everyone whom shared this information
Hi Rosalie. Great reaction. It's great to see how you're slowly turning into a ('symphonic') metal fan. I knew you had it in you when I first recommended Nightwish to you 😉 Maybe you should check out their Celtic sound next. Try 'I Want My Tears Back' (Buenos Aires). It's an uplifting song, with lovely melancholic lyrics and some wonderful crowd participation. Greetings from the Netherlands.
thank you :) haha yes I just might be. Thank you for the suggestion. Sounds very interesting. I made a note

Thanks for another great reaction. To see another side of Nightwish, try My Walden from Wembley 2015. This song includes an intro from the English multi instrumentalist, Troy. He has not been featured in any you've seen so far.
Definitely would take her down another side tunnel of the awesome Nightwish rabbit hole
This is my 3rd video I have watched from your channel, I love your musical knowledge, your intilect, your passion. Keep it going, great job. I came late to Nightwish (only a few years ago) they are amazing. Hope you might become a fan I still have not seen them live, hopefully one day.
also poet and the pendulum, so very sad but also awesome
Dead Boys Poem live w/ Floor fronting is a MUST. 🎶👍🏻🎶
You’ll know you’re a true fan when you can tell when a song occurs at Wacken 2013 by which outfit Floor is wearing. 🤣🤣🤣
💙💙💙All Hail Floor !! 💙💙💙
