I would like to see more Japanese phrase videos, because I enjoy them. I would like to see one about conversation phrases: Hello, how are you? (I had attempted to learn those myself several years ago. Unfortunately, I have recently realized I had been mispronouncing the phrase the ENTIRE time.) Sigh...anyway, keep up the good work!!

I THINK trying can be enough sometimes. As long as you aren't down right being rude, I'd imagine most people would be understanding. Maybe it can vary though. I think please and thank you is pretty universal.
There is a number of little things that one wouldn't think of though... That is exactly what I worry about too!
Learning a couple of phrases like in this video is pretty helpful, as well as maybe bowing. Most people SHOULD be understanding of foreigners.

For the last 3 weeks, I was in Japan with my girlfriend. We are both from germany and took some japanese lessons before our vacation, and yeah, sometimes even trying to speak in japanese felt like that the people were somehow impressed that we took the effort, so dont you worry about offending anybody if you are not properly speaking the language, the people really appriciate the effort. btw: we were treated so nicely everywhere we went, both people and country are awesome.

    • @BakaTaco

@@Norman0507 The level of politeness and kindness that I experienced on my trip was above and beyond, for the most part.

Japanese people give foreigners a lot of slack. Especially when it comes to being socially clumsy or even rude. The strict politeness culture only comes into play with japanese people themselves.

This was one of the very best video's. The combination of you explaining and Maiko doing the pronunciations was FABULOUS. Do more of these. Maiko Says it, I try and say it, my wife corrects me. It's BRILLIANT. If i pronounce a word wrong my wife just gives me a blank stair and goes, What was that? Then giggling says, did you mean...... then i just say Karaoke the american way and she runs away holding her ears. :-)

These were helpful. I want to avoid being 'that rude foreigner' when I visit so it was great to have Maiko breakdown the pronunciation like this. Now I just need to learn/memorize how to say 'Sorry, I don't speak Japanese. Can we speak English?'...I always learn this phrase (replacing Japanese with whatever language) in the native tongue of places I visit...at least that gives them the chance to say no, instead of me just barging in with English.

Funny story about #7 from a friend of mine who studied Japanese in University:
During the unit about shopping, the professor had all of the students break out into groups and roleplay a shopping scenario. Midway through, the professor stopped every group, because they were pronouncing the words wrong. It was at that moment that he learned something very fascinating:
Kore wa Ikura desu ka = How much is this?
Kore wa iKUra desu ka = Is this caviar?
Too many of my friend's class (himself included) were putting emphasis on the second phrase and not the first. Lesson learned, and a little laugh along the way!

@@PraveenKumar-ge2tg ありがとう"arigato" is actually ok but ごちそうさまでした"gochisousamadeshita" is better word in that situation.

    Hi Paolo :)
I think it could be usefull :
A video for the main sentences to say when arriving at your hotel or in a house with hosts and when leaving and throughout the reservation if you have to ask the staff for things.
I'm going to Japan in two months with my girlfriend for the first time so your channel is life-saving !

I found this Video VERY interesting and helpful. I do go to Japanese Restaurants - I LOVE the food, and I can use Chop Sticks.

Brother P. Thanks so much for all of these videos. Just got back from Tokyo and I must have went to 99% of the places you recommended in the areas you recommended. What a magical trip! However !!!! I could have used this video about two weeks ago! Think of all the extra fried chicken and beer I could have ordered had I known how! 🤔🍺
