Listen to the main character's screams... I don't know about you, but back when I first saw this as a mid-teen, those screams sounded too close to reality, and gave me nightmares.
+Kaiser Redflame This was one of the first anime for me when i was a mid- teen freshman in high school back in the mid 90s. The level of violence in this show really amped up in this episode and it was shocking for me too.
In my crossover stories, Giovanni from Pokemon became Enzyme to kill Alain (Mairin's travelling friend). After the terrible fight, Alain was badly defeated. He became Kamen Rider Shin. Tuxedo Lovelace ordered Enzyme to have self-destruct on him. They both die together.
one of the most memorable scenes in anime for me. Remember watching this as child with my friends and we jus sat in utter silence and disbelief. still recovering!
The way how sho calls guyver, even till this day I get chills. He sounds scared, less confident, really panicking jesus. Why isn't anime like this annymore
+Arthur Lopes Eh, Asuka's death was not that traumatic or even brutal. She gets stabbed in the head, her eva is dead, then the other evas eat her mech, which was kinda a foregone conclusion when her power line got cut and when SHINJI WOULDN'T GET IN THE FUCKING MECH. What drives the point of this scene home is that you're used to seeing the Guyver quite literally curbstomp nearly any foe he's up against, or even the Guyver taking over for him and teaching him some new weapon which he uses and kills his opponent. Here, the battle opens with his most powerful weapon disabled, a foe who's blood MELTS his normally near invincible armor, who takes absurd punishment, and even when Sho discovers a new weapon, it only served to piss his foe off more before he's mercilessly killed in front of his friends. There isn't a backup good guy. This was the only one. Guyver 3 is chaotic neutral at best.
I was in the Kosovo conflict and Iraq war. Seen a lot of death. This little harmless cartoon STILL makes me uncomfortably shocked...in a cool way. You do realize a 10 foot monster just ripped an Alien cyborg implant form this guys SKULL and the suit proceeded to slowly implode his flesh...EPIC!
The VA of Enzyme here is why the US renditions dub of this version is so fucking awesome. He really delivers the lines like a man who's lost EVERYTHING and his only hope of even living is by getting revenge by doing gruesome things to the flesh of the person who put him there. The Manga re-dub just doesn't hold a candle to it. Also, fun fact, Steven Blum did the voice of Guyver 3 (not seen), even in the US renditions version. This was one of his first performances, which dates back to 1986, nearly 30 years ago. It shows as he sounds heck of a lot younger.
+Legion Beast I wholeheartedly agree about this dub being awesome. Especially the voice for Enzyme here. He actually sounds like he lost everything and wanted complete revenge on the guyver himself.
COOLEST FIGHT EVER. Love the genuine fear, desperation, and panic in Sho's voice. It's apparent that he's a weak kid that can't utilize the weapons of the guyver anywhere near their maximum potential.
This fight was indeed the tragic death of Guyver 1. What made me mad was that Guyver 3 was their,(Spoiler to those who hasn't seen the episode), and did nothing to help Sho, aka Guyver 1, when fighting against Enzyme. This series was great. It was sad that the company that was working on the series decided to end it. The new series that came out back in 2005. I quit didn't like it for some strange reasons. But I'm thinking about watching it again.
How does Sho himself live through this battle until the Control Metal is taken? It seems more likely that he would have died from his wounds or from blood loss and the Guyver would've then taken control and continued the fight with Enzyme, like it did later when Sho died in the battle with his father, Enzyme II.
makes a sort of clone of Sho since his dna was still attached to it. As you see in manga the arm becomes a rogue monster until the armor re absorbs it.
@@aaronbuffalo7769the control metal backs up the host's consciousness all I need is DNA to regenerate the host why would the creators make clones of themselves when they create the Guyver unit. Its purpose was to enhance the capabilities of its host to ensure that the hose survive almost any condition and damage.
This is it! the exact version i saw so many years ago ;_; It changed my life (i was 7). They should have never stopped production of this show. This voice acting in this episode is so great xD
I know he came back and all, but I still can’t get over the fact he died so miserably. Like holy fuck dude, you’d never come back from an experience like that.
The newer Americanized series from what, maybe 10 years ago, follows the comics more directly, so there's a big level of appreciation there. However, the LA HERO version (before the god forbid MANGA redubbed it) came into play, this will always stand out for me. I started Guyver in the American movies with Mark Hamill (Skywalker and Joker), and David Hayter (Solid Snake), before I watched the anime... the 12 episodes of the fast-forward levels for me will always stand taller than the newer version, even if the newer version was more direct from the comics....
Fun fact, this OVA was actually LIKED by the creator of the books and actually applauded the enhanced brutality of scenes. His appreciation of certain aspects, such as Lisker and the Enzyme fight, prompted him to make specific changes when the 10 year ago series was made, such as making the Enzyme fight closer to this one (except it went a little longer, Sho was able to open his left chest panel after it healed, but that's when Enzyme impaled him), and he kept Lister alive until the destruction of Chronos Japan branch so he could conflict with zerububuth.
The 2005 is 99% to the original manga and tells more past 12 episodes including Aptom reason for hating Sho and Chronos and the Council of Twelve especially Archafel, and X-day.
I may hate enzyme for killing guyver. But he was smart to go for the chest plate and stop him from using the mega smasher. That was brilliant strategy.
1:51, Enzyme destroyed a piece of the painted background. Not a conspicuous light patch, but an actual, immovable, supposedly indestructible background item. Dude's not fucking around!
Saw this anime when i was young... still love it today. First time i saw this when i was around 10-11... i was really sad when Sho died. Then the next episode was on a week later... HOLY SHIT! This whole fight is brutal, but especially that scream when Enzyme rips the control medal out of Sho's forehead, is hands down one of the best fights and voice acting moments in anime history. Still get goosebumps watchng it now.
I'm on a serious Guyver kick right now for some reason; likely because this anime is amazing. The way Sho calls the Guyver at 0:37 STILL gives me "awesome-chills".
This is so awesome. I had this crap on VHS, watched up until episode 8. This fighting scene is ultra epic, drawn so fluidly in those days. And its so super violent. Thanks for uploading; i remember every scentence and the horrible, horrible dubs.
Thank you! It's rough when you want to see a specific scene and then have to sit through people attaching songs to it that shouldn't be there. It's much appreciated.
Because his plans to destroy Chronos Japan needed Guyver 1 to be inside the base, so he let him die knowing both that they would take the control medal back to the base and that the control medal would fully regenerate Sho once inside. That and he would've been killed as well if he fought.
I believe I know about Guyver as a child from the live action series but man they need to make another anime or something... the manga still ongoing for so many years now..
Nice work on ripping the actual scene dude! :) I always remember this for being so horrifying; I kept saying to myself "They'd never kill off the main hero right? *his arm gets bitten off* That'll grow back right?* end of clip* Sweet lord almighty!" Kudos to the english actor for this scene man; the screams were horrific and gut wrenching.
He fought to the very end. You know they really need to finish this series. As far as I know it this is the longest running series in anime ever, over 20 years in the making and still isn't over.
yea but the hiatuses are literally years apart. 30 volumes in 30 years, should be at 50 really. It needs a proper conclusion, because it is clear it isn't going to continue .
i have this exact version ....the guitar progression during the pressure cannon segment still gets me excited till this day ...and yes i watched this when i was about 6 or 7 ....im glad i did . Im fucked up and im an artist myself...thank you Japan .
I wish anime and voice actors were both this intense these days. I never see this kind of intense expression in anything current. How did the 80's managed to pump out awesome stuff like this and good anime these days is impossible to find. Berserk is probably the closest to something current(manga) that I've seen that impressed me on this level.
That was probably one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen. I watched the guyver movies as a kid and I think they disturbed me...nice to see I wasn't imagining things
So what if the guyver doesn't have the MEGA-SMASHER...... The guyver could've EASILY defeated ENZYME by hitting him with the GRAVITY CANNON WEAPON more than once which is at 2:43....He should've hit at least FOUR times
The Guyver first appeared in it's own manga(Created by Yoshiki Takaya), a animated movie subtitle: Out of Control, a 12-part OVA(which this vid comes from), and most recently a 26-part series(which is the closest to the manga). You can probably find the 12-part OVA, and 26-part series at FYE. I wish I knew a reliable way to get the manga translated in english though.
This is soooooo good. I used to buy this for £5.99 per video from my comic book shop 1 a month for a year. Wish they would bring this series out on DVD.I would buy it right away
It's brilliant that people are putting up the OVA Guyver up on this site, it really is one of those unfortunately forgotten short series. But I still prefer some of the voice actors and voices that were used when it came to Manga VHS years ago, years after the series was first aired. Genzo/Enzyme is amongst those - since this version I hear his voice... and Sho's voice aren't warped by a synthesizer, nor is Enzyme, it sounds strange to me, but it's just the voices from the original airing.
A few years ago, I watched all of them on some website. There were more episodes after this one but unfortunately the whole series ended on a cliff hanger. I wish they kept making them.
1st series ends after aptom battle #2 , remake series ends with Guyver Gigantic appearance and fall of chronos, death of ZXtole etc, but doesn't continue . The latest chapter the kids are teleported to an ancient temple that was I think home to the creators, as the ship designs were there, But that is where it ends
The guyver died a hero's death by fighting evil until the very end with all his strength regardless of the pain he ws in. However, even in death the guyver doesn't stop. Due to it's regenerating powers it comes back to life stronger then ever.
HAHA dude that's exactly where i got all my episodes, but i had to wait even LONGER! like a whole 3 months! that was terribly the worst for me waiting. but definitely worth getting all of them.
@zhongyang3 That is because this is the one created in around 1985 or so I believe. The other one you more then likely saw was either the newer one known as Guyver 2005, or it could be the one part thing with the female Guyver 2 called Guyver:Out of Control I think.
It's weird going back and watching the classic series after seeing some of the new series... I think I know which I prefer. While in this, Sho screams in agony with the blood streaming down his face (well, Guyver's face), in the new series, sho kneels there looking quite well and says "I cant lose. I promised Tetsuro." Great. =/
@MrCreeper069 Good point. I think it may be a combination of that and his determination to save his friends. At this point Sho had no idea the Guyver would fully recreate his body if it was ever destroyed, so without that knowledge Sho probably thinks that is he dies then all hope of his friends surviving vanish completely causing him to struggle his hardest to stay alive so he can keep his friends safe. Idk just a thought
I actually want to say thanks for uploading this without a fucking song attached to it. The amount of times I've tried to watch something on youtube only to find it has Linkin Park or Rise Against OR FUCKING DROWNING POOL over the original audio is ridiculous. While I'm at it, fan made trailers piss me the fuck off as well.
I was traumatized by this particular Guyver episode for years. I'm 20 and I grew up watching this show. And, last night, I had a dream I was the Guyver running away from Enzyme unable to hurt him. I've had that dream many times before, and it's weird how I still dream about it even now.
dude i totally get you i was 4 and it left me with a serious death complex for most of my life i eventually shook it off and now love these brutal types of anime's
@serioushamster his voice was different in the original one, Enzymes voice has been re-dubbed in this one to cut down on the swearing in the original one
This was never an ova, this was suppose to be the first running series of guyver but the project was shut down and then in 06 I think was when they tried to relaunch a new series of guyver (probably the one you know). Still what frustrates me is not knowing if this series will ever be over, because there is too many questions left unanswered in the manga.
lol this sounds like a different dub from the original. The voice for enzym is different on the old VHS tapes. If i could figure out how i would record it from the tapes and upload but i cant :S, Nice to see people keeping this alive though
It continues in the manga. But sadly for some reason I've waited over 1 year for the next release of the newest issue so I'm thinking it was shut down at ep 186 in the manga.
i wish they made more episodes of this one i remember watching it at my friends house when i was 15 on VHS. I have always liked blood and guts and Guyver is the fucking ultimate weapon after all.
This seems to be different than the VHS version I used to have. Sho's voice hasn't been put through a synthesizer and Genzo/Enzyme has been re-dubbed completely (this voice sounds worse).
Listen to the main character's screams... I don't know about you, but back when I first saw this as a mid-teen, those screams sounded too close to reality, and gave me nightmares.

Kaiser Redflame them screams is real deal, i would like to see how the guy looked whiled recording.
Damn, you normally wouldn't expect old anime's dub to be good. This tho,is the greatest I've heard
one of the most memorable scenes in anime for me. Remember watching this as child with my friends and we jus sat in utter silence and disbelief. still recovering!
This is how I imagine Thanos will rip the Mind stone out of Vision's head.
It's a Disney movie, though, so it will not be even a 1000th as brutal.
Dreadjaws since vision is an android they could actually get pretty graphic with the maiming as long as it's not too analogous to human flesh.
Oh, sure, visually the maiming can get a bit graphic, but there's certainly not going to be a blood-curling scream of pain.
Dude, are you a time traveller
It sucked
damn, Sho dub voice actor was amazing. I never felt the agony of a MC dying like that...
Tom Fahn, the same dude who voiced Agumon
@Incoductic omg! Your right!
This is probably one of the most brutal deaths of a main character in anything.
That scream was unbelievably incredible voice acting.
The way how sho calls guyver, even till this day I get chills. He sounds scared, less confident, really panicking jesus. Why isn't anime like this annymore
Goddamn, that has to be the most brutal death of a main character I've seen
+SaiyanZ3 I would suggest you watch The End of Evangelion.
Arthur Lopes Shinji dies? Or do you mean when Asuka gets eaten?
When Asuka gets curbstomped, yes.
First saw this when i was 7 yrs old those screams ingrained in my mind for ever. Epic scene , still following scans of the manga now
Same I was 7 when I saw this, those screams traumatized me lol
I think I was 6 when I first watched this and it scared the crap out of me but now I miss this art style and gore

Carl Hampton Jr Thank you kindly.
+Legion Beast I wholeheartedly agree about this dub being awesome. Especially the voice for Enzyme here. He actually sounds like he lost everything and wanted complete revenge on the guyver himself.
This is as gory and disturbing as Alex Murphy's death in Robocop.
Thank you for keeping the original music and sound
D THE CHEMIST yeah the redub version is garbage compared to the original
Dude the scream shos making when hes tearing it off his face 😫 jessus fucking christ!
COOLEST FIGHT EVER. Love the genuine fear, desperation, and panic in Sho's voice. It's apparent that he's a weak kid that can't utilize the weapons of the guyver anywhere near their maximum potential.
I know it sounds a bit silly but I love the dubbing for " now il have my revenge you SON OF A BITCH ! " just sounds hilarious .
+Matthew Trotman This guy sure as hell knew how to deliver his lines.
I've always loved that line and the rest of the dialogue in this fight too
i couldnt stop laughing at that either
I officially lost my shit when he said that
ikr
The way he yelled guyver was so original
Torture, mutilation and death. Followed immediately by the most upbeat closing credits ever!
That scream still terrifies me. The Voice actor did a fantastic job

Guyver 3 didn't help cuz he knew that he would come back to life. And I guess it was easier to get him into Kroanos headquarters that way.

This show should have changed the way anime and manga were done, but I don't think many people noticed it.
i feel the same way with the pressure cannon scene. the soundtrack in that series is the BEST!
What happens to him makes you wish you never become the guyver D:
The first time I saw this scene, I was seven.
The blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment at 5:24 only amplifies how painful this was for Sho, because you can see how everything was _connected_ .
Damn. I've never watched Guyver in my life, but this is freaky. That screaming is really haunting me right now.

@gottadaba Other way around. This Guyver series was made in the late 1980's. The Return/Revenge of Cooler movies were made sometime mid-2000
@LordSpleach I have really read the manga comic form, so only judge it from the animated series. But thank you for pointing that out to me. :)

Good point. Idk just a thought
sho's scream is haunting
i love this anime, it was my first anime ive ever seen ( 3 years old) so im always a big fan of the guyver
@seaofglass123
The control metal only takes over the guyver armour if the host ( Sho ) loses conciousness for a period.
I was shivering through half of that, I was so scared and wanted ot cry watching this part as a child.
Mizuki: SHOOOOOOOO!
Tetsuro: We've Lost.
dude i totally get you i was 4 and it left me with a serious death complex for most of my life i eventually shook it off and now love these brutal types of anime's
This original voice-cast, especially Makashima, is a lot better than the redubbing when this was re-released.
i have this entire series that showed up in the us and the new series. love the guyver.
Curses, Blood, Screams...Fuck Yeah!
@airtec87
Genzo Makashima was Agito's adoptive father, Fumio was Sho's real father:P
lol this sounds like a different dub from the original. The voice for enzym is different on the old VHS tapes. If i could figure out how i would record it from the tapes and upload but i cant :S, Nice to see people keeping this alive though
This was a good series, got them all on VHS. This episode still can't beat the one where the zoanoids attack the school, that was EPIC!
For some reason the animation in this episode is nicer than the others and sharper
Guyver is sooooooooooooooo cool! I wish the manga chapters come out faster, i can't wait to see what happens next.
@holdingholder Your right, sorry got the originals confused with the Remastereds. But still the point remains that It is still the other way around.
Welp... looks like I found THAT part of TH-cam again...
When I was young I didn't notice how violent it was until now. I thought it was really cool though.
