- Went to recon some of the trails in the Montreat Wilderness close to Black Mountain NC. Awesome views, great trails. Very surprised on how nice this area is.

Good to see you out there livin life! ☮️
Fortune, Thank you for this recon of the Montreat Wilderness. I've been lucky to have hiked the trails there except for the West Ridge, a few of the climbs are butt kickers. I don't believe dispersed camping is allowed within the Montreat Wilderness. Fortune, thank you for your efforts in your scout hikes in WNC.
Thank you for following. And you’re welcome…I love to climb and summit every chance…helping out with recon just gives me more excuses to do that lol
I had picked up a map of the Montreat wilderness and only did the short climb to Overlook Mountain and then the hurricane hit, so I've been unable to make it back there to do some of the other trails. Thanks for the updates - I'd been wanting to know which of the trails were reopened and which weren't. I want to do Greybeard in the spring, or the Seven Sisters.]
Btw, I don't know of this is of interest to you (or anyone else here), but at 17:44, see those two pointy peaks in the distance right in the center of the screen? That's Hawksbill Mountain (on the left) and Table Rock (on the right), which are part of the Linville Gorge. The MST runs right through the gorge. I hope to see you tackle that area one day - I've been on a few hikes there and the views (especially from Shortoff Mountain at the southern end of the gorge) are the best I've ever seen.
