I've split 5 cords through it so far. Does what I need it to. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUyQswtttSffRMblGbrhCvZn7JkhtG1-7 I scrounge all my firewood and am not equipped to handle big wood, but for logs up to 24 inch diameter or so, it works great. I've been amazed by some of the gnarly bur oak and elm crotches it has split. For the tougher stuff within it's size range, you might have to study the piece a bit to decide the best attack, but if you split smart it's up to the job. It did arrive low on oil, and I was would have nicked it half a star for that, but it has regained my full confidence. UPDATE NOVEMBER 2021: Still going strong after all these years. I love the one-handed operation. Hope it's still in production if I ever need to replace it

Really satisfying to watch the woods breaking easily

Best design for this kind of splitter I have ever seen. The wedge underneath is a good idea and the balanced flywheel. I need to find a large carrot to make one.

    Genius. Pure genius.
What You can do to secure the carrot - build a big steel or hardwood box around it , sort of a loader in which logs are put, then You just push the box, not the wood or carrot itself...
You can build the box out of a rebar rods - good to see how the carrot spins...

Very nice, almost looks like mine. I think I have the only screw splitter in the state of California.

Good job! A little trick would be to "lubricate" both the table and the screw with some wax: it really helps

I have done alot of logs in my younger years with this type of log splitter on a small tractor and pto and from my experience your running your's at to higher rpm this type of splitter works better spun slower and it's far safer as well

what is your carrot speed in the end?. I'm just finishing my project powered from my tractor with a 100mm carrot

    • @Newterafox
      @Newterafox  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

With such a carrot, 300-400 rpm will be enough.

Thanks for that, the tractor has a shaft speed of 540 RPM for 35hp @2400rpm motor speed . Clearly I won't need that much power so running it at half speed will be enough@@Newterafox

I don't know motor strenght.. what size or rpm or torque do I need for a 110 motor for splitting red oak... very hard wood

Why not use a large pulley on the top and a decent size engine slow the whole thing down give it some actual torque and make it safer

love the video thank you , whats the reason for the metal wedge under the carrot, some people have them some do not , always wondered whats it for .does it split the wood better

I would like to be able to get one of the screws like you bought for $20. Is there anyway you can help me get one and ship it to USA? Thank you.

A Polish company called Forsplit sell them on line. I imagine the shipping will be high to get it to the states as they are heavy.

Other than that bolt head whipping around at 4200 rpm's just waiting to peel your knuckles or launch a piece of wood into a low orbit, I like the design

Seems like an awful lot of extra work. I'm going to do my one with a single phase motor with reduction gear and keep my fabricated assembly low and bolted to the floor so I can sit on my arse while I split my logs.
