    Thanks foe making this review, I just found this kit on Buce plants and I’m trying to upgrade my 5 gallon tank to a 10 gallon and put more plants in as well as starting a carpet. Definitely going to buy it, amazing review :)

    So since you can't stop the production of CO2, do you just turn on a bubbler when it's lights off?

      So long as you’re not using it in a very small tank, surface agitation at night should ensure the livestock are fine.

    Awesome video! I really enjoyed your thorough review. Are you also in Toronto? TH-cam shows your location to be in Toronto. I ask because I am in Toronto and I am wondering where you picked this set up? I'd like to get back into using a system like this.
    I wanted to share that I used a system much like this from 2001-2005 from Hagen/Fluval under their nutrafin banner/brand. Although I had to supply my own sugar, they provided the yeast and bacteria. Interesting how most of the manufacturers have moved onto to passive CO2 in canisters and pressurized CO2 and finding a system like this is rare. I used the nutrafin system in my 60 gallon and it was very effective (although most would say you need a pressurized system for that size). So glad you did this review because I have been trying to find a system like this again and I see that hagen has abandoned this system for pressurized only (recently got back into the hobby as I have been out of it since 2005). Thank you so much!!!

      Im currently running it 24/7 on my 5 gallon, but I have constant surface agitation (filter spray bar tilted slightly upwards). Works like a charm. In a 5 gallon and with surface agitation, dropchecker stays dark green, but the plants seem to be happy. Definitely better than without CO2. I had bought it as a starter kit with intention to move to a pressure bottle, but im seriously considering using this set only - its just that good.

    So, the gel(?) comes pre-installed in the botte, then you add the powder? And then you re-add powder every few weeks to 'recharge' it? In the refill kit, are you getting more gel as well as powder? If not, what happens when the gel is all gone - do you just buy a whole new kit?

    A problem I can see with this design is that the amount of CO2 being released into your tank is completely uncontrolled and is being released 24 hours per day. If you do a little research on CO2 injection you will quickly learn CO2 is optimal only at a concentration around 30ppm which can easily be measured with a CO2 drop checker which I noticed is not mentioned in this review. Anything above 30ppm concentration can be hazardous to your livestock and anything below this can render the benefits to your planted aquarium virtually useless. So if you have 5 gallon tank will it kill my fish? If I have a 50 gallon will it be enough so that my plants are getting enough of the intended benefit? Also take in mind that plants only consume CO2 when the lights are on. During the night the CO2 is wasted with this model. If I put a shut off valve on the line will the bottle burst or blow the lines off? So I guess this may be an okay experiment for a planted aquarium or when deciding if CO2 is a serious objective for the future of your tank setup. Otherwise I suspect this could be a waste of money or a deadly addition to your small tank. Just my first impression.

    • @GreatAscape
      @GreatAscape  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tomb Raider. Appreciate the reply ! One thing I should have mentioned is that it does state optimal usage is between 10-30 Gallons and that usage on anything less than that could result in suffocating of wildlife unless sufficient surface agitation is supplied during the night hours of the cycle. I only reviewed what was provided in the package and they claim it produces optimal levels of Co2, I myself am curious but this would be the reason as to why a Drop check was not included. Adding any sort of valves would most likely result in a damaged product. I would definitely recommend this product to someone who is looking for the added benefit of co2 in a smaller aquarium without wanting to initially commit the hundreds of dollars of a high tech setup.

      @@GreatAscape This is the answer I've been looking for upon buying this stuff. I just bought the product and will use it in my planted 10gal tank to give boost to my new plants with no livestock yet. I didn't read the part that the product claims it produces optimal levels of Co2 and that could be running in 24hrs mode. This is cost effective if you'd compute it for a year of use than using Co2 Cylinder tanks. With this product, is it safe to say to use it as the an alternative all the way than cylinder tanks? I was initially discouraged by the store where I bought and urged me to buy tanks instead as better options. Sales is probably the reason why, but since I saw your video, for someone who don't have the budget yet after the whole setting up cost for the aquascape, gladly and hoping this would work as a great alternative!
