Seems like when i tie foam off in the front like that, the fly is less stealthy as it loudly pops out of the water like a gurgler when back casting. Do you notice that with this midge?
I've seen you "Sharpie rib" a couple of patterns. Do you ever flip the script and use a sharpie on the body and rib with white (e.g on a top secret midge)? I'm experimenting with that approach and so far I like it! I would love a future where I only have ~5 different white threads that take marker well and maybe some GSP and mono in the thread drawer........maybe not what a fly shop owner wants to hear but I figure that just leaves more money (and storage space!) for feathers and such.......
Cost is almost negligible with thread and wire. The issue with coloring a dark body and ribbing a light color through is that the dark color always bleeds out the light strand, making them all the same color.
No need for the foam. CDC and thread will float all day with amadou and some cdc floatant. Just clean off the slime after each fish. I also like to use a cdc twister tool and twist the steams to get my puffs. 54 Dean St and Stonfo sell them. The Semperfli Kapok makes these float even higher if you want dubbing.
Gee, it's good to see the purple popsicle! Oh yeah, slick midge pattern too.
The trout by me have been hammering midges in the surface film lately. We haven't got much snow in NorCal yet so this pattern is going to crush 🍻
The sharpie trick just made my day
It’s a good one! Try light brown marker over cream thread… money
Very cool, I need to make a few of these for my box now
Will we see Fly Fish Food at the Denver fly fishing show in a few weeks?

Chech is right the bleed through is real.
Chech is wrong the thread price and storage of thread is real :)
Привет а делаете мушки обманки на хариуса ленка
After a couple puffs, I’ll eat it.
Someone at the shop whose name I won't mention, (but rhymes with peach) doesn't know about the midge-sized Tiemco Whip Finish Tool.
I have it. It’s decent.
