I love that trade for Philly. Turned a roster player into a first rounder and also got one of tort’s old favorite players in Johansen. Philly could be a sleeper in the playoffs.

If you look at the Oilers, Henrique is the guy they needed, but in the end he might play a 3rd center role also. Carrick, will just be another depth guy for their 4th line. The first only and the Ducks giving up the 4th rounder to retain the salary should have been it.
idk about the byram deal.. mittelstadt is literally peaking as a 2nd line center on a bad team these days and a healthy byram still has big time 1st pairing potential. Its a trade for needs but i feel like byram is at least a 2nd and a later round pick better than mittelstadt. Byram is producing more points on average than mittelstadt is on his best year in his 7 year NHL career. Colorado got their meh-2nd liner and might win a cup with him. Every other scenario would make this trade feel like a big L
Mittelstadt isn't meh, he's led the Sabres in points so far this season. If he gets on to PP1, and plays with either Lehkonen or Nichushkin at even strength, this guy is going to be a stud for the Avalanche. The thing with Byram, he was stuck behind Makar and Toews, and was glued to PP2... and now in Buffalo he's going to be stuck behind Dahlin and Power. I think he needs to go to a team that needs a clear number 1 QB defenseman for the future, like the Ducks, Coyotes, San Jose.
So much delusion behind Byram as if he's the second coming of Makar. Mittlestadt is going to get an insane bump by playing on a legitimate contending team where he does have to be the #1 or #2 guy, he gets to be the #5 guy in a solid top 6. On top of that it's a long term option since he's an RFA after this season, he more than likely gets a 5 year deal that the Avs can push for multiple cups with.

This is not some kind of potential acquisition. He has already established himself. Colorado is trading a worse player with greater potential for a better player with less potential to improve. I.e. what happens in every trade deadline acquisition for a contender.
Henrique and Carrick are solid additions but it would still be great if the Oilers managed to nab Toffoli or Carrier. I think we can live without that first round pick
Mittelstadt and Byram are now jinxed. Remember the last time these teams got together on a big deal? Maybe Byram wins a Conn Smythe after the Sabres move him for next to nothing lol
The only problem with Mittelstadt, is that Mittelstadt is going to need a center to play center for him. He's sub 50% right off the face offs, so if you want to discuss the point totals that Mittelstadt produces, you'll have to look at Thompson and how much ice time those two played together.
if landeskog gets healthy this year, which it’s looking like he could as he’s been skating and has travelled with the team on their road trip, then he would compliment Mittlestadt nicely. he would be serviceable in the faceoff dot and adds some physicality to a line with Mittlestadt. a guy like Nichushkin when he comes back would also fit well with him. i think they’ll be fine running him 2C
Nah. Suggesting they got a 1st for Walker is highly undervaluing the cost to dump Johansen. Even with the 50% retention from the Nashville trade it was going to cost around a 2nd to dump Johansen's deal. 2 2nds is probably roughly equal to a late 1st, so they got about a 2nd for Walker.

Getting Walker for basically nothing? Complete win. Getting rid of RyJo is awesome and draft picks are pointless for the Avs, they are garbage at drafting and developing so might as well trade the picks
I wish the Nhl would put a freeze on trades 3 or 4 days before the deadline to make deadline day more exciting. I know teams worry about a player getting hurt before being traded but players can get hurt during the first game with a new team .
that’s kind of the whole reason there’s a trade deadline..no reason to freeze trades. it increases the emergence for contenders to go out and make trades before all the players on the block get moved. if you’re snoozin you’re losin
I'm not really liking any of this... Moving Johansen was great. But giving up a 1st for Sean Walker??? Dont get the hype in this guy this season. He wouldnt command near this haul in past seasons, and he's 29. Another Woll situation imo. A 2nd maybe. A 1st... nope. All I can guess is that was the price to move Johansen. And Mittelstadt for Byram.... Mittelstadt is decent, yes. But imo Byram is worth so much more than Mittelstadt. Mittelstadt has had a couple decent seasons. But he was drafted years ago and has never really lived up to the hype. He's a decent 2/3C imo. Hoping I'm wrong and this guy takes off in the Avs system or this can look bad in a few years. Usually Sakic makes homerun deals but in these deals I feel he way overpaid for both players.

As a Redwings long term fan (since 1995) can I say that I am more concerned that we have not made any trades!?!?!?
yes, Steve needs to get some guys up in there.
I like Henrique for the oilers. I don’t mind the trade. I hope they find away to add a top 4 dman though. Ceci needs to go.
I’m a kraken fan and I don’t like live that trade in my opinion wennberg is worth a first round pick at least
Avs still have this years 1st, 5 million in cap space and all our non-nhl prospects, so we're not all in.... yet
why is walker in an oil jersey
Wow I’m not sure how I screwed that one up haha, thank you for saying this. Changing it to Henrique now for the thumbnail at least.
hahaha

Let’s g9 aves!, sad to see byram go tho
Why is Walker in an oilers jersey lol
That’s Henrique
@@ericschuette9864check end of video
@@ericschuette9864 he changed it, it was Walker before. See another comment from him below
0:40 im sorry, this is a lose-lose trade
Noah Jamison got traded to the golden knights
Buffalo already had 3 lefties in their top 4 this trade makes 4. They really could use a right shot dman
This kind of gives them a right shot D. Because Dahlin has been playing on the left lately, but he's just as good on the right. So he'll move over to the right now which will bump Jokiharju down to one of the other pairs and they'll then have a RD for every pair if they so chose.
With this Mitts/Byram blockbuster, does this mean Landeskog isn't returning? Mittelstadt is expiring and will want 6-7.5 million...
He should not get more than 6 million. Hopefully he likes it in Colorado and it's in the 5's.
From what I hear he's worth 6-6.5 and want 7\7 from Buffalo.
Sean Walker in the Oilers jersey 😂
That’s Henrique
...what?
Philadelphia got the better part of that deal. Walker will not provide much for the Avalanche. This is one of the trades that the Avs will look back on and regret it.
Love the chaos but i think avs mighta made a mistake. I still believe in byram to become a top pairing guy. Could be wrong and maybe he will remain as he is. Either way im sure mittelstadt will pop off in Colorado
After today, I’d be okay if the Wings sold. Florida game convinced me we’re not ready for the show.
Florida has been doing that same thing to cup contenders all season
@@leviklynstra8975they’re the best team in the NHL - those fans better savor this moment
Nope. The trade deadline is today. Not Firday. Middlestat. Henrique Tarasanko. Byram. Walker. Wennberg. Wow big names.
He's got middle stats
And the Avs could've had Mo Seider
i doubt mo is on the block but even if he was the avs have no need for him.
I could be wrong but I think he means that they could've drafted Moritz Seider instead of Bowen Byram in 2019
You are like tsn or sportceter i can get all the News
As much as I like the trade for Buffalo why not tender in the offseason and let someone else pick Mittelstadt up and take your picks
They wanna contend asap, probably would have preferred someone who can play right away with upside as opposed to pick.
Because they can get Byram now
Did the Sabres not learn from the Sens having all LHD especially with the Sabres coaching staff isnt gonna work they now are gonna have to choose between Power and Byram in a year which is a good problem cause you shoukd get good assets for either of them but not sure this will work out how Buffalo fans would hope. Sabres and Sens should be helping eachother get out of their dumpsters not copying eachothers moves
Lol what? Why would they need to chose between Power and Byram?
So weird seeing a highschool classmate in the thumbnail. Surreal.
Honestly, Buff did not need another left-shot D. This is not a positive trade.
Sure. But they don’t need any Gophers on their team. (I live in Madison. 😅)
Walker will have five games where he’s better than Makar
Weird but okay
Byram was our worst defenseman this season, and our blue line is very deep, so it's no big deal.
Buffalo having the best left side on hockey??? A left side that isnt physical , shows little interest in playong hard defense and has shown very little "winning culture " . Power forwards will feast on this left side , buffalo is never going to be in the playoffs again , are they?
I said potential to have!
@@OhNyquist very true and full transparency , I'm a Montreal fan and can't stand Buffalo , they bleed talent off talent to the rest of the nhl .
Mittelstadt's best season was 15 goals. He might get 20 this year. You call that a fantastic trade?
Byram has a bright future, so this looks good for Buffalo.
byram may become the better player. he may also not, he may get another hit to the head and be done for good. mittelstadt slots in perfectly on the second line for colorado and is an rfa at the end of the year. he is exactly what the avs needed. yeah it hurts to lose bo, but this is exactly what the avs needed to do. they had too many d-men and needed a 2c desperately.
Ever heard of a playmaker?
@@nonyabusiness-f9e - Yes, the Avs need a 2c, but with his numbers Mittellestadt is a 3c.
@@bajjanitor - He gets about one assist every other game.
@@deanschulze3129 I'll take that as a no. lol
