Mathas. My dude. You had me with Rimworld, Kenshi, Zomboid, and your Chilluminati podcast, and here you go and begin a Caves of Qud LP?? They said the perfect channel doesn't exist. They just haven't looked hard enough. LET'S GET THIS LP STARTED!!! >:D
FYI, many months of old builds are available on Steam under the Beta's tab of the game properties; you can set a version like "2.0.173" and keep it there until you're ready to start a new game, or to recover one that the latest will no longer load.
Is the salt sea not... a desert? I always thought it was a sea before the world ended, but now it's just an endless expanse of crystallized salt. From the wiki - "The ivory sea's dunes are like waves frozen in place. There are cracks in the salt from where the earth, blistered by the jeweled sun, contracted and broke. The horizon melts the sky together with the vast plain of Moghra'yi, the Great Salt Desert."
Just as a bit of a warning mathas, when you trade and the amount that you recieve goes over the amount you give it it will auto-round up to cover the cost. (For example when you bought 4.0 drams worth of ammo you traded 3.99 drams of torches plus an additional dram of water to make an "even trade" of 4 drams. 25% loss pretty much) Not a huge loss, but it can add up. Don't worry a ton about food either because (default difficulty at least) when you camp you can scrounge for food to fill yourself with junk. If you use actual ingredients though you get buffs based on what you popped in. Final bit, if you perform the water ritual (I know it works for major npcs like the elder, not sure about normal dudes) you open up new convo options because they trust you now. (Learning skills and secrets)
havvik is basically a holy nation person, and i feel rusthilt and him would hate eachother, but at the same time, they both have so much in common. they're both relatively self made, they both have grand aspirations, they both carry around dead people for fun.
I’m so intimidated by games like this but you really make me want to give it a shot, I love the background music and role playing when you read dialogue. It always feel like an adventure from the perspective of your character
I'm new to your channel but I absolutely love the way this lp is being made the story, the editor's notes are a nice touch for additional info or quips, and of course you!
There has only been one other person i have found so far that i have been able to watch and enjoy Caves of Qud and that was Aavak. I am really digging the storytelling for this it fits pretty much perfectly so keep it coming Mathas and i wish you all the success.
Nice! You're playing Caves of Qud! It's an incredibly deep game, with so many possibilities. As it is with Project Zomboid, it's very easy to get overconfident and reduced to mush by an annoyed Slumberling :) Hope you return to it, even though it might have smaller audience. It is actually so deep, that without experience or your detailed explanation, people will get lost as to what is going on. Keep it up!
I'm a year old to this (and for your channel in general) but I just discovered CoQ and this is by far the most high effort playthrough I've seen of it. You've seriously knocked it out of the park and I can't wait to check out all your other stuff, dude. Props!
Yoo, I knew your tweets were hinting at a series and so I bought the game weeks ago im anticipation of waiting til I can learn the base mechanics from your videos ^^
NORMALLY, I click through the intro of any Let's Play videos to get to the character customization and playthrough.. Just for the sane reason that the director of said video like to run their gums.. BUT. This was an amazing introduction!! I watched, enthralled, in the entire 5:45. You, sir. Thank you.
Thank you so much for playing this on your channel. I catch you on the NLSS sometimes but haven't watched any of your vids till now. Found this because you were playing Qud.
I know I'm really late but for those that have never played, the water ritual makes that group LOVE you and they're enemies despise you, however if you kill your water brother than everyone will hate you as kin slayer
Holy shit, I fucking love Caves of Qud, I can't believe you're doing a series on it! This game is an absolute gem, best $10 I've ever spent (though the price raised recently to $15, but even that's a deal). My personal favorite build is a four armed axe wielding marauder with flaming hands for those free ranged attacks, though I've accidentally set myself on fire more than once lol
Just for anyone who else happens along... there's three limits to the amount of Cybernetics you can install on your true kin. What you can find, the "slots" on your body and finally, cybernetic credits. Credits and implants are mostly found randomly in the world and are fairly rare. every implant costs a certain amount of credits and you can not break that limit.
Something must have changed, since I was watching this to get a feel for the game and tried the same start and was murdered by the Warden and Mahmet as soon as I took the furs from the first chest in town. Oops. There's a really nice new UI layout to it too. On to the next episode!
Oh yeah. Lots of these things have changed rapidly. I don't know if Mathis listed the seed somewhere. But on top of that the game itself has been changing rapidly in many ways.
Ian Mitchell not sure what an appreciation mode is but if roguelikes had a mode where you couldn’t die so easily, an exploration mode, I could explore the game world more and enjoy the mechanics better. It would feel more like an exploration game instead of a survival/horror game. Horror on account of not knowing what could kill you at any moment lol.
@@ifstatementifstatement2704 I guess I was just suggesting "appreciation mode" as a possible name for a mode where you are tougher and get to go around appreciating the details of the game.
Gonna toss up a couple things, some opinion and some fact. True Kin, eh? Well, when you die-- and I mean WHEN (this game is unforgiving and your character isn't meant to last, unless you're not playing on permadeath which is recommended) you should try Mutated Human. True Kin plays as the high ranking in the social hierarchy and can modify themselves mechanically, but Mutated starts from almost nothing but raw power and hope. It's, no offense, the much more entertaining way to play in my personal opinion, and the options are VAST. Now for a fact. That thing to the west is just straight-up desert, not salt water.
intro to 1:48 Hmm Agree. The problem of "PA" is that your doing "PA" why must all "PA" be Dark, Edge, all the buzz word you hear. Why can't there be "Light" in "PA" Hell Factorio have it other type. Where Factorio consume it. Terra Nil From desert waste like to an Oasis
Mathas you either need to pay Dean more or threaten to pay him less. One or the other, because there are so many editing mistakes in this video that I lost count.
I had no idea what a dram was. Now I know too much. 8 drams = 1 US ounce. You had 12 ounces of water at the start. the water alone would only weigh 3/4 of a pound. I'm calling the game out on making a glass of water weigh 24 pounds (I subtracted the 1 pound for each waterskin)
The premise seems very nice but the UI is simply horrible, I mean, painfuly put together - Dwarf Fortress grade. I understand ADOM being full keyboard controlled but it is a very old game. It's 2021, the minimum I can ask is mouse support. It's already taxing having most elements represented via text, let alone the options to operate them.
This is an old comment by now so you might’ve looked into it already, but much of the UI has been significantly changed since this video came out. Though I believe even at the time of recording there was already mouse support but he wasn’t using it.
Can I enjoy this game if I'm not a pretentious prick with my head situated firmly up my own arse? Only joking - the game looks interesting, I just don't have the attention span for it.
I'm not trying to start a scene, not trying to guilt-trip, merely interrogate as to your philosophical outlook, and the realpolitik of Havvik's "crusade" against mutantdom. You're playing Havvik as people who play Imperium soldiers in Warhammer 40K; as an intolerant warmonger who wages an ideological war on those you feel are unworthy of existing? I mean, you already have the Putus Templars, who going by lore and actions in game, not only kill mutated humans, but keep them as slaves. And in your journey into Qud, there's more mutants than there are True Kin, such as yourself. You're the outsider, wandering into their lands, leaving the relative safety of your Arcology, to pass judgement on them for trying to survive. Do you honestly believe that they'd want to deal with you, sell you salve injectors, ammo, armor, etc., and fight alongside you knowing that you're probably orchestrating their holocaust? Because I'd suspect they'd overcharge you for anything you buy, shoot you sidelong glances whenever they talk about anything near you, and generally wouldn't like being around you. What are your RoE (Rules of Engagement), your ethical metrics for determining who lives and who dies? What measure is a non-human? And how does being a cybernetically-augmented human make you superior or in anyway different from biologically-empowered humans? From the perspective of an un-augmented human, you'd probably be equally as monstrous, with your metallic parts and odd noises, and lack of empathy. Think deep, take as long as you need to formulate a response. This is not an accusation, not meant to start fights. It is simply a roleplaying character examination, a social studies assignment. In short, it is a question. Not just for you, but for anyone who reads this, for anyone who plays True Kin (personally, I've played both, though my starting character was an Esper Water Merchant). There are no wrong answers. But neither are there any right ones. Just choices one must live with, especially when it negatively impacts someone else and the justifications for those choices.
Is there mouse controls in this game? i hate cumbersome idiotic hotkeys from the 80-90s, who the fuck plays with numpad in 2019... (does the game atleast have changable hotkeys) ?

Nothing like carrying a smelly hyena-man corpse in your bag. Such a great conversation starter!

oh shit, im surprised you havent done a video on this. not the game, just a reaction to his channel
That opening, I am so happy this game is getting a series this beautiful.
Drop the corpse Mathas, it's weight is 120 lbs...
I've been screaming that at the screen the entire time.

Dear Editor, great job. Just be sure to remove the takes he restarts when reading. Can't wait to see more of this!! Going to buy this game right now!
I'd love to watch a series starring Yung Mithis, edited by Don Cheadle, funded by criminal activities.

Huh, that's pretty good name, I must admit
A solid name it is.
Old video, but your narrative style definitely tells me you are a game master for table top rpgs. Very cool play through so far.
You're carrying a whole corpse around, my dude
if you're coming to mathas for inventory management, you're gonna have a bad time
The Rusthilt Condition has evolved...What was once just legs, is now entire corpses!
He completely skipped the motions of moving up to arms, torsos, and heads and went straight to complete bodies xD
I am just floored by the fact he glanced over the 120lbs when trying to manage weight (TAKE YOUR FUR GIMME YOUR BODY!)
In Qud, thats just a packed lunch.

I like Splattercat Gaming's, but he only went several episodes. I'll have to check the one you mentioned.

This was very entertaining. Reminds me of the guy narrating his dwarf fortress plays.
This game gives me dwarf fortresses vibes
Why have I missed this game? Thank you for bringing it up!
Hey! A cyborg! All hail Manny of machine. Oops, wrong roguelike.
Okay so before I start the video. I am so excited because I love this game holy hell I am so happy you're playing it. Thank you
Damn this game is wonderful. Basically my favorite rogue like
Love seeing the pop up of Ryan playing Isaac toward the end. Glad to see things never change :)
play for 10 minutes a day, scream and rage quit then return the next day for more punishment
wonderful ❤️❤️❤️
