I have pretty much every steel except for 15V (which I'll have once the sprint runs and K398. XHP is one of my top three favorite steels. It's the most underrated steel I've seen. Well, elmax is similar. XHP is special

I liked , the sliceyness of the Chaparral, but the blade was just a little to short for my taste. I have an M4 Shaman that I had reground, and it's 9 thousands bte so that's my Spyderco super slicer now.

A shaman that thin is probably super fun to use. Thanks for watching

the blade steel magna cut is pretty awesome, it holds a pretty good edge on it when sharpened

    The big man is back!
Probably a Stupid question but in general, do blades get "smaller" or shrink in a way from excessive sharpening? I feel like a thinner blade would start to shrink, but would it ever get to the point where it's an issue?

    • @itsaknifestyle8482
      @itsaknifestyle8482  ปีที่แล้ว +7

Not a stupid question at all. Technically when you sharpen, you have to remove dull metal from the edge to form a sharp edge. So the blade technically gets smaller.
I don’t think an issue will ever form if you use a sharpening system like a KME or do it freehand. You will form much smaller burrs (remove less metal) compared to sharpening a knife on a belt grinder. I have knives that I have sharpened dozens of times and I don’t notice any issues visually or through measurements. You will probably not see any issues for years and years unless you are using a sharpening method that quickly removes a lot of steel. Thanks for watching

@itsaknifestyle8482 I took alot of steel off of one of my smith and wesson beaters and it's like a completely different knife now. 😆 I started on a 400 and finished on a 600 stone but man this was my tester knife and I removed the smith and wesson label off. 😂it's pretty straight and narrow but that was before I knew what I was doing. Now all my knives sharp but I can't get this sharp at all now and it's pretty much a trash knife now.

@@clavididk1236buy Spyderco knives and Smith & Wesson revolvers. It's not an easy journey learning how to sharpen knives correctly. Also not easy to convince people they can learn to sharpen over time. Also hard to lend out your knife and trust the person won't ruin your knife's edge in 5 seconds.

@user-dm5dm7ql6f yea I freehand sharpen and fucked up a spy 27 spyderco. It looks like a curve point not that leaf shape. Smh idk if I can fix it I'm not good at sharpening but thought it would be easy to pick up but noo lol it's a learning curve fersure.

    Nice review...thanks...
I have a peel-ply CF/G10 Chaparral that I sometimes carry on dress up type events...fancy dinners and such. Usually, I’m indifferent between FRN or G10, but I much prefer the heavier variant for the Chap - kind of weird I guess. But for some reason the FRN version of this knife just feels too unsubstantial for me.
That aside, the blade geometry is excellent. I think it’s about as useful as you can get for this size...and it’s still being made in XHP - which is very cool IMO.

Do you wish it had the solid pocket clip over the thin wire clip? I feel like it would snag and bend easier because of how often my PM2 solid clip gets snagged and never bends out of shape.

      Much delayed response - sorry...
I’m fine with the wire clip in terms of practicality, and I generally prefer it to their solid clip for functionality.
I suppose it would be nice if they offered something a bit more dressy for this knife, but the wire clip has never bothered me.

It’s not weird to say “however “😅. I like that the matriarch looks like a vicious beast.

I really wish this model was getting rex121 instead of the Sage. It's basically the perfect platform.
Definitely looking forward to your updated collection and Spyderco top 10 video!

That would be really cool to see. I didn’t know the sage was getting Rex 121, so thats also good new to me. Thanks for watching

Sal said the sage5 was just what they chose to test rex121 in. In his forum post replying to all the people talking about it Sal said "Slow down. You are up the street and down the block. This model is not being considered for production. I needed a platform to use the steel with and this was the easiest.
      sal"
I can not see nor before knowing he said that them releasing rex121 in the sage series. I would almost bet it will be Mule team first and then followed by the Manix, PM2 or Native 5. I would be totally 100% shocked if a rex121 sage 5 was ever released.

I just got a s30v sage cuz they discontinued but I love it. Very slicey can't wait for the xhp and rex 121 sounds great but I'm waiting for the smock or shaman

If you keep your index finger out of the way you can “Spydie” flick it open all day long.👍🏻

Hard to take this seriously when you can’t just clean the blade.
