Yeah… I was starting to wonder if 2021 was going to be my year for a kayak caught yellowtail! By the way… congratulations on the success of your Hog Squad Fishing channel… you’re absolutely killing it with quality content!🎣😃
Awesome Dan. That must have been Friday when I saw you at the launch at first light. I did not have as good a day as you, I never found bait, even all the way north to Solana Beach. I also trolled my Nomad DTX 140 on the right and a Nomad DTX100 on the left, Trolled around Torrey Pines North of the Golf Course and came back to LJ. Then I caught two Bonitos (about 12") one on the Sabiki and pinned him on my flyline rod right away. Caught another Bonito trowing small P Line minnow on good FF marks. Never had any good bites and never did make normal bait. Congrats on you LJ Yellowtail. Now, you will be down here more often. Nothing makes you come back faster than the sound of the drag screaming and line peeling just when you thought you had gained back a bunch of line. Just a suggestion, but when you get one on board, cut or rip out the gills and let the Yellowtail bleed out. It will make the meat even tastier. I thought it looked 23-26lbs. See, as I say "You were in the right place at the right time". See you out there soon. Tight Lines!
Thanks Mark! It was definitely a lucky catch. I was all bummed out because I couldn’t make bait, that in combination with the super heavy overcast had me thinking it wasn’t going to be my day! Fortunately the Nomad DTX Floating Minnow came through in the end!🎣😃
Nicely done Dan!!!!! One week it's a Sheephead the next it's Yellowtail. I'll have to buy a few of those plugs for the Gulf and try for some Amberjacks; that is if OldTown can ever fulfill my PDL 132 order which I made six months ago. (eyes rolling) Ray
I was trolling into a headwind and it was difficult to maintain more than 3mph, so I was really surprised when that yellowtail slammed the Nomad DTX Floating Minnow!🎣😃
Great catch Dan. We should work on a custom trolling rod for your next pelagic catch...maybe something with yellow & black wraps to match the 555. That spinning set-up looked like it was redlining and about to start leaking oil, yikes!!
Haha… I think that’s a good idea! That Penn Slammer 3 4500 definitely got a work out! If there would have been any kelp or structure beneath me that yellowtail fight would have ended sadly! A custom trolling rod with yellow and black wraps… do you accept PayPal or Apple Pay!🎣😃
Hi Owen… the oil spill shut down fishing in my area from October through December 1st. So I’ve been enjoying the holidays with my family and friends and I will be back to fishing and making videos in January. Thanks for checking in.🎣😃
Do you have a fishfinder installed in your Fisha 555? If yes, is it installed as per the Stealth youtube video? . I will need to install one in the Fisha 500 and I am not sure about cutting the hatch to glue the transducer on the inside of the hull, like the Stealth video shows. Thanks for your videos.
Hi Eduardo… in theory you should not need to cut anything. Inside the main fish hatch there should be a small panel held in place with 4-screws. Basically you remove that cover, which gives you access to the inner hull. That’s the place where you epoxy down your transducer. Once you epoxy down the transducer you shove all of excess transducer cable into that same area. I believe all of the new Profisha and Fisha models have that removable panel. You may have seen a transducer install video on an older Stealth before they started pre-cutting the access panel. Also… I highly recommend using the Nocqua 10ah lithium battery. It has a Velcro flap that allows you to hang the battery from that bungee strap in the fish hatch designed to elevate the rod butts. Definitely let me know if you need any more info. 🎣😃
Hi Martin… thanks for checking in. There’s always a bunch of crazy stuff happening over the holidays, but I’ve been able to squeeze in a bunch of paddling over the last couple of weeks, so I am now good to go!🎣😃
Nice catch! I´m a New suscriber to your channel. Have you tried the "DTX Minnow 120 Floating"? According to the website specs, it sinks the same as the "floating 140" model, but runs slower (1 - 7 mph). Since I have a Hobie Outback I think this might work better for me.
Hi Alex… so far, I’ve used the DTX Floating Minnow in the 140 and 145 size. The 140 dives to 25 feet and the 140 is a shallow diver that dives to 10 feet. I have not used the smaller 120 version. The 145 actually reaches its maximum depth of 25 feet at just 2mph. When I caught a yellowtail at La Jolla on the 145, I was battling both wind and current and had to work to just maintain only 3mph. I didn’t think I had any shot at a yellowtail at such a slow speed and BAM! One advantage to the 120 is that you could probably troll two of them behind your kayak. The 140 is like a little parachute and you can definitely feel the extra drag when your trolling it. But one drawback to trolling two deep dive lures is clearing the other line after you get a hookup! It’s really hard to reel in a deep dive Nomad with one hand! Thanks for subscribing Alex!🎣😃
Hey Mike… as it turned out, all of Huntington Beach extending south just past Dana Point was closed to fishing until December 1st, because of the oil spill. I’m definitely looking forward to getting back out on the water.🎣😃
That is an epic fish on pretty light gear. Good job on not loosing your cool! I would have been foaming at the mouth with excitement. I will be out there launching from la jolla shores in the next few months. It will be my first time launching there. Thanks for helping me build my confidence that I can do it too!
I’m going to have to disagree with you on that one. Jeff has filleted more fish than you and I could ever dream of catching. He grew up in a commercial fishing family and has literally filleted thousands of fish… everything from bass to bluefin tuna!🎣😃
@@losthorizonfishing107 so no I worked in an cannery in Alaska and now work on sport boats down here in SoCal you have no idea I do it for a living every day

Great video Dan. I loved your happiness on your big catch! Great to see someone So passionate about something they love

Good job!! told you they take swim bait. A week ago I got one on slow pitch jig in 40M water while I looking for rock fish.

Dan: Have you heard any updates on them reopening the fishing from the oil spill closure? I've been trying to get some info, but zilch!
Huntington Beach City and State Beaches opened this morning at 6:00am. Surfing and fishing are back in business!🎣😃

Thanks Bryan, not nearly as impressive as the monsters you pull in, but it was definitely a super fun catch for me!🎣😃
Hey, I just noticed that you’re channel has been monetized now - big congrats Dan!
