I noticed that Trudy doesn’t have much of an active role in the reboot as she did in the og series. The season focused too much on Penny and Oscar’s dynamic. Trudy and Suga Mama from the og series would’ve NEVER put up with Ms. Hill’s disrespect.
Trudy low-key would because she has that confrontation philosophy that makes her put up with certain things, but you’re right. Most of the time she stood up for herself, and I don’t think OG Trudy would have stood for Ms.Hill as much as reboot Trudy did.
I like that this ep was teaching hospitality and Ms. Hill ended up being so great full that penny raised money for her to fund housing n promised to be a great teacher but how did the family let her take over their house like that 😭?

This reminds me of one of my moms guests. My mom always cooked extra and had leftovers for anyone to get. My mom’s friend cooked food and left it out, so I took a plate… instead of being like “oh, that wasn’t for sharing.” She asked my mom for my number without telling her a reason and texted me the most degrading pages of text. This lady who I literally had the one unknowing interaction with completely lost it on me. My mom didn’t do anything about it, not even apologized for giving out my phone number to some random.

I love how every time there's a feud with Suga Momma, she's shown to have been in the wrong instead of making her out as a saint. Just because she's a cool chick now it doesn't mean she hasn't done something dirty in the past. It also explains why Bobby really can't take care of himself due to his mother's coddling. I bet if he and Lisa stayed together during high school, he probably would have had a reason to man/adult up to her level. Trudy should have kicked Miss Hill out as soon as she started talking smack about her baby and the cleanliness of her home. What is it with her always being the peacemaker/peacekeeper by letting people walk over her and her family in the name of being polite? There's a story behind this for sure, and it probably has to do with her sister Diana.
I could have sworn the episode where Trudy’s and Oscar’s respective families come over we see that Trudy was the peacemaker in her family, and carried that role into her and Oscar’s relationship. Also, in other episodes Diana was for sure one of the reasons why Trudy is the peacemaker, or why she usually gives up her happiness for others. At the same time Diana low-key pays Trudy back by giving her lavish gifts like the Diamond earrings and expensive coat, so it’s not like Diana is completely bad to Trudy, but she has done some emotional damage.
That's always been my issue with Trudy, the obsession with only having her be the peacemaker means in a sense she has no character. She doesn't do anything not even react, she just allows stuff or have the perfect answer at the end when making Penny feel better. She doesn't do anything else, at least Oscar and Suga Mama say funny shit and does fun stuff. Trudy is basically that stereotype about sitcom moms where they aren't allowed to be fun, just the buzzkill wet blanket. Its like Marge Simpson but worse because at least Marge is regularly involved in plotlines and even has episodes to herself. Trudy doesn't do anything at all.
Isn’t it amazing how these characters reflect the reality of black men and women? The coddling of sons (typical black mama and son dynamic) and Trudy playing that typical black maternal role of putting everyone else’s feelings and well-being before her own.

I had a supervisor who was like this. He was always looking for an excuse to be angry with the consumers because he had to watch over them rather than mow the lawn as he liked to do, and he ended up getting fired too. Point is, people often do this because they have something else to be miserable about.

Suga Mama always reminded of Benny from the George Lopez Show, being similar obnoxious nasty grandma's who hilariously abuse their sons. The difference is Goerge's relationship with Benny is more equal with George being allowed to talk and argue back with Benny, and does score victories against her to pay her back for her abuse especially forcing her on multiple occasions to give him respect and love. Its why I like Benny and George's dynamic more. Because Suga Mama's abuse of Oscar is so one-sided it becomes sad than funny at times. Suga Mama can be just as much a jerk as Oscar so it can be infuriating that nothing happens to her despite her awful behavior and horrible treatment of her sons.
Suga Mama is aware of it, but denies it. Serval episodes of the OG series shows this. Oscar and Trudy even called her out on it, and that’s when we learn Suga Mama was the “Oscar” of her family while Sistah Spice was the “Bobby”.
What was even the lesson in this episode? Sure Penny inadvertently loaded this metaphorical gun by taking pics of her but Dejonay pulled the trigger by snitching. Penny tried making amends by giving her a place to stay free of charge and she just took over a household that she was a guest in. Then at the end of it all she rides off into the sunset pockets full of money. I ask again, what was the lesson?

I love Suga Mama but she needs to be called out for her shitty parenting honestly. Oscar is very clearly the scapegoat while Bobby is the golden child.
I also think its unfair how she favors the jobless freeloading son who still acts like a child over Oscar who; married an incredible professional woman, gave her 3 grandchildren and actually owns a business despite it’s bad reputation. Even though she’s my favorite character from this series, I still enjoyed the satisfying episodes of the reboot where she got owned by karma. 😂
This episode had a confusing moral. I get being the bigger person but that also includes setting boundaries. She lost her job and is homeless? That is awful, but taking your anger out on everyone around you even people that are being hospitable is not the answer. Her getting rewarded and the family suffering is not the right approach. Original Proud Family would never.

I mean she's not wrong. What she says does make sense, but she could be nicer about it. It's like The Devil Wears Prada and Miranda Priestly, the details are important and if you so manage to spot and correct them you will be successful. You could go through life cutting corners and cheating but it's not as rewarding because it just shows you were never capable in the first place. Miss Hill is a capable teacher and person but she's also a very bitter person.

I don't think ms hill understands that as a guest she meant to be polite and humble that they're letting her stay with them and that she also has no athurity outside of school to give detention to her student outside of school hour and I'm espcially sure that trapping a family in their own home is illegal.
Probably best to have no relationship with extremely strict authorities like teachers, which includes Miss Hill, coaches, mentors, group leaders. They will definitely make a living hell for anybody. If this were real life, school authorities would’ve fired her on the spot, Trudy would’ve sued Miss Hill and directly report her to police like Sunset Boulevardez, who would take her down to court, where she would land in prison for abusing people like students. Trudy could possibly sue Miss Hill, although that’s expensive and would take a very long time. Miss Hill would probably feel better off getting another job that pays her more, which could allow herself to afford her own place.

Agreed. Trudy is an interesting character with many mood swings and storylines in the original. Here she just has one to three lines every episode.

It's like The Devil Wears Prada and Miranda Priestly, the details are important and if you so manage to spot and correct them you will be successful. You could go through life cutting corners and cheating but it's not as rewarding because it just shows you were never capable in the first place. Miss Hill is a capable teacher and person but she's also a very bitter person.
