The dialogue translation here isn't quite accurate, he doesn't actually say that he thinks Lan Zhan will feel lonely one day and try to find them, but that Lan Zhan will be BORED one day and try to find them. It's the same infamous "wu liao" that Lan Zhan always uses on him.

The translation of "boring" here really doesn't do "wu liao" justice. There's two senses to the word, if you say that you feel "wu liao" then yes, you feel bored. But if you say that someone is "wu liao" it isn't exactly that they're boring, it's more the sense that they're being ridiculous/childish from being so bored. Like they have nothing better to do with their time than do something so silly or nonsensical. It's better translated as "Nonsense."
So like an older brother might call his younger brother "wu liao" for playing a prank. The older brother isn't saying that the younger brother is a boring person, but rather that he's being silly (what he's doing is nonsense) because he has nothing better to occupy his mind and time.

Can we just appreciate Wang Yibo and his skillful expressions? Like yes, Wangji doesn't show much emotion in his features and that alone is extremely hard to pull off, however, the small things such as showing the minuscule reaction that he was surprised when Wuxian wore the mask is beyond talented. I have so much respect for him as an actor.
agreed! it doesn't register to us but pulling off a character like this is very dificult cuz as humans we're used to reacting to things we see, hear, smell etc all the time. Microexpressions are very hard to control.
One other fav drama of mine where the actor pulls this off very well is *My Love From The Stars* .

For all the non-chinese viewers here who are wondering why lan wangji is constantly saying "boring" (无聊) whenever wei ying is doing something very entertaining, it's because 无聊 doesn't directly translate to "boring"; it only translates to "boring" in some situations. It's a term that doesn't really have a perfect english equivalent, but I personally think a better translation is "meaningless" instead. 无聊 is often used to describe doing something that is pointless and only done because you're bored and don't have anything else to do, for example, 无聊 would apply to something like checking your social media for new posts/messages even though you literally did that a minute earlier because you're bored and don't know what to do other than mindlessly scrolling through your phone. However, in other circumstances (as shown in this ep), 无聊 can be used as a derogatory term to criticise what someone is doing as pointless and/or immature - kind of related to the first meaning in that it's similar in meaning to "do you have nothing better to do with your time?" The third meaning, boring, is mainly applies only to when someone says "I'm so bored" (我好无聊). There's probably a fourth meaning, but I can't think of it, so if another person who knows both mandarin and english can think of it, you're welcome to leave a comment explaining it.

17:57 - I'm glad they made mention in the series, what was so blatantly, obvious all along. I didn't even, like his companion tugging at his arm and making him run like that, as it looked so, undignified. As I watch this, I'm becoming so powerfully, drawn to this character myself. Unsure of the name at the moment, but I cannot imagine anyone else, playing this role better than this fellow. He seems to be made for it. Who knows, maybe he was a prince in a previous life.
