He continually gets denied anything and everything he ever tries to obtain. Finally, and for only one moment, Lane took charge, fought back (literally and figuratively), and took control of his life. I think Lane's problem is he DIDN'T really ever try to obtain things. He was an intelligent, competent man who was "good at doing what he was told." However, he was never satisfied with what obedience alone will get a man. He wanted the things that require ambition, but he lacked either the courage or the will to become ambitious.

He was forced to. You could see him looking around trying to get out of an actual physical fight/to have someone be a minion and defend him and/or pick on Pryce. And no, him going back to Trudy after abandoning the other woman was not a redeemable course of action.
Lane was such a great character, and the show started to fade after his departure. That whole scene is gold, when Lane first comes in and tells them, tragedy struck, and everyone cracks up.
the body language and expressions of everyone, along with the editing is everything. What a magnificent scene! This show is just brilliant in so many ways
I love Mad Men it’s absolutely my favourite show of all time (even above Sopranos which is also great). As a Brit, I loved the way the characters mercilessly take the piss out of us (the exchange between Joan and John Hooker on the Profumo affair was priceless…. And Roger, “Cup of what?”) but I must admit I felt a significant amount of pride at this scene. Well done Lane!
My favourite part of this scene is when Don leans forward slightly when Lane says "That'll be enough of that" 0:34 because Don knows exactly what Lane is going to do and for someone as reserved as Don a slight lean forward is basically jumping out of his chair in excitement
I love the difference in fighting stances. Lane still has that traditional rolling knuckles old timey thing going Roger's cooler heads line with Don closing the curtains legitimately had me laughing out loud when I first saw this
Don, Cooper and Sterling’s reactions are like schoolboys when a fights about to break out on the schoolyard. Joan listening in like a little girl rooting for her crush, all the cool kids rooting for Lane!

1:12 I love that look Campbell gives Don like "Aren't you going to give a cool speech to stop this? Oh what, now you're closing the drapes, really living up to your name."
The dialogue, Roger's great one liners and Lane's fabulous delivery aside what I really like about this scene is the attention to sartorial detail: even at the height of passion Lane remembers to remove and fold his jacket correctly at 0:33 and Pete tucking his tie into the shirt at 1:04 ?? Just wonderful
And in this context, “gentlemen” translates to “pretentious twits with fragile egos, outdated mores, and nothing better to do” :) Update: Also, I know the disciplines are completely different, but as a Krav Maga practitioner, that fighting stance of Lane’s just seems wholly impractical to me.
@@Hallows4 Yes his stance is just ridiculous. I have a blackbelt in taekwondo and doing that would easily get you hurt. None the less it still looks pretty funny. Taking the business Coats off, rolling up the sleeves, comma gotta make sure to keep it clean.
I just can't stop watching Jon Hamm through this whole scene. Don Draper has such an empathy for other wounded people, for dysfunctional people, but he's also a bastard at heart. All of that comes through in half seconds of screen time, in the smallest gesture and expression. He disgusted by both men, and utterly sympathetic to both at the same time.

I like how Peter actually stands up for the challenge and from this point on he becomes a much better person
No he doesnt 😂
Yeah I notice that too he acts like a child he doesn't take his job seriously I dont think a career like this is fit for him.
He was forced to. You could see him looking around trying to get out of an actual physical fight/to have someone be a minion and defend him and/or pick on Pryce. And no, him going back to Trudy after abandoning the other woman was not a redeemable course of action.
Sometimes all you need is an ass whoopin
@@chrisspedling75 He actually does become a much better person for it.
Lane was such a great character, and the show started to fade after his departure. That whole scene is gold, when Lane first comes in and tells them, tragedy struck, and everyone cracks up.
Lol at Don’s side-eye glance as Pete looks to him for help 😂 0:49
This scene was so hilarious when he called him a "grimy little pimp"!
I love it at 2:07 when Lane just turns and calmly walks away to gather his jacket after flattening him. Like "yeah, I do this this all the time".
the body language and expressions of everyone, along with the editing is everything. What a magnificent scene! This show is just brilliant in so many ways
"I know cooler heads should prevail but am I the only one who wants to see this?"
2:07 - He did what we all wanted to do for the whole series.
Not every day you see the son of two vampires beaten by Sherlock Holmes arch nemesis
Holy crap, an Angel reference.
Damn I had forgotten Pete was even in Angel
Oh wow, I totally forgot he was in Angel
I love Mad Men it’s absolutely my favourite show of all time (even above Sopranos which is also great). As a Brit, I loved the way the characters mercilessly take the piss out of us (the exchange between Joan and John Hooker on the Profumo affair was priceless…. And Roger, “Cup of what?”) but I must admit I felt a significant amount of pride at this scene. Well done Lane!
It definitely made me want to belt out rule britannia when I first watched it haha
For Queen and country!
Lane Pryce even sounds like a 19th century bare knuckle boxer! He’s got the stance too.
Engaging according to the Marquis of Queensbury rules, well done Lane.
Screw Batman vs Bane, Superman vs Doomsday or Ali vs Frazier - this is the most epic battle in the history of mankind.
Haha “this is medieval” sounds like something an NPC would say in a video game
“Does anybody else want to see this?” This one had me cracked up. This show is too good. 😂
Draper's face as he's closing the curtains is a little moment of transcendent acting.
My favourite part of this scene is when Don leans forward slightly when Lane says "That'll be enough of that" 0:34 because Don knows exactly what Lane is going to do and for someone as reserved as Don a slight lean forward is basically jumping out of his chair in excitement
Back when calling someone a pimp was something to fight about.
Speedy It still is in Turkey.
"You're a grimy little pimp" sounds like it should be one of my lines lol
"I know cooler head should prevail, but am I the only one who wants to see this?" Roger ALWAYS had the best lines 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love the difference in fighting stances. Lane still has that traditional rolling knuckles old timey thing going
Roger's cooler heads line with Don closing the curtains legitimately had me laughing out loud when I first saw this
Lane pryce might have been my favorite character in the whole show
I always laugh uncontrollably when I see this scene.. everything about it is perfect
Don, Cooper and Sterling’s reactions are like schoolboys when a fights about to break out on the schoolyard. Joan listening in like a little girl rooting for her crush, all the cool kids rooting for Lane!
I love how some men actually takes fighting words seriously and resolve the matter there by simply fighting. Moving on after a fair fight is always a good decision.
I love how, at around 0:48, Pete looks at his bosses like "is he serious?" And they look back like "yep, pull your sleeves up."
how is moriarty taking so long to win? hasn't he rehearsed this fight in his head already?
ernie garcia DISCOMBOBULATE
Well yeah, but he's fighting The Destroyer.
Pete called him Mr. Toad 😆😆😆😆
Thank you! I thought he said "Mr Code".
Not a joke. That's what I thought he said. It was very confusing. I was like, "is that a reference to something?"
MrStephenRGilman Wind in the Willows
And right before that, Lane called Pete “....you little devil.”
Hilarious...
Mad men is just another level of classy "manliness action drama"
Will never be topped by another show.
Thats guaranteed....
I'd put breaking bad and Saul on that level
@@Stonecrow25 Me too
I never laughed so damn hard in my life watching this scene. "Well.....that'll be ENOUGH of THAT!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Lane was an AWESOME character; his eventual end was a sad one
The moment I had waited for since the first episode and it came at the hands of my favorite character.
There's nothing funnier in the world than two guys who can't fight trying to fight each other. The show really captured that here.
Lane might not fight like an American, but he knows the rules. That's why he won!
Elizabeth Grainger
He won because Pete is a pussy.
JoJo McJoJo are you kidding this was real fighting not that arm flailing shit you see black people doing on world star
JoJo McJoJo Pete "Pussy" Campbell!
@@eavgrainger Also, he's bigger than Pete. There's power in them there arms.
More office "issues" should be settled this way.
If a person is lying and one wants to confront then that is ok as long as both parties are in agreement with a fight.
@sneksnekitsasnek Do you know how many people get bullied at work? They may report it.. go to HR...but for fear.. etc... just sit there and take it. At least this gives someone a chance to stand up for themselves.
Legasov punching a capitalism dude hahahahaha
he didnt! he wasnt there!
He turned Pete into an agent of the Soviet Union.
One of my favorite scenes in the whole series....
I still remember watching this episode and I literally repeated this scene over and over again for like 10 times...I couldn't believed what I jus saw...😄😄👌👌
I hit 2:05 too many times, the moment he got his ass handed to him. He fucked around and he found out. Never insult a brit who has been fighting in pubs since teenhood.
Hahaha Roger is truly the man! Always speaking what everyone else is thinking.
In the opening of "Ant-Man," straight up Roger Sterling.
"We're going to address that insult". Think ill use that line myself👍
"I know cooler heads should prevail, but am I the only one that wants to see this"?
God I loved his character.
Just finished my first rewatch. First time I saw the show was during the pandemic and I think I'm going to rewatch it again 😅 I can't enough of mad men quite possible my favorite show of all time
1:12 I love that look Campbell gives Don like "Aren't you going to give a cool speech to stop this? Oh what, now you're closing the drapes, really living up to your name."
LOL. Hey Draper, close the drapes...Hey Lane, get back in your lane...
As always, Roger is the agent of chaos.
1:10 this is the moment Don Draper finally drapes
Did anyone notice the "You little devil!" comment from the speaker when Joan and Peggy were listening lol.
As usual, Roger comes through with the best line.
The lost art of gentlemanly fighting.
And in this context, “gentlemen” translates to “pretentious twits with fragile egos, outdated mores, and nothing better to do” :)
Update: Also, I know the disciplines are completely different, but as a Krav Maga practitioner, that fighting stance of Lane’s just seems wholly impractical to me.
Lol
Don is not a heartless monster. He has his own ways and had a tough upbringing and is also flawed but he is not a monster.
Don in the heat of business can be ruthless but that is the game at the end of the day.
For everyone who watched Mad Men - THANK YOU Lane.
When you feel like the only person taking their job seriously in the workplace, and you have boldly take a stand alone to do the right thing.
Lane is my spirit animal.
This was a top 5 most satisfying TV moment.
That made me laugh so much. “He thought you were a homo” 🤣
When he says that, you can see Don's smile fade; he knew Pete had crossed a line with that foolish quip.
I do appreciate this wasn’t the insult that crossed the line because he knew it was childish.
Jon Hamm had a perfect "come on, man" look on his face
